One estate sale today although I also stopped at three TOO garage sales to no avail.

$30 brought home the following:
22 Apr 23a.jpg

I had visions of Lugz dancing in my brain when I saw the OD canvas roll shoved to the back of a low shelf, but it turns out it's from 1954, so just after Korea. The stenciling is hard to read, but says:
S.I. JACOBSON MFG. CO. CHICAGO, ILL.
MFG 1953 JAC 4-752
COMPLETE SET STOCK # 41-W-903-30
22 Apr 23b.jpg

Everything says Walden except the file (Heller) and the feeler gauge (Century Tool Co.) although I believe they are both original to the set. I cannot say the same for all the wrenches. I could be wrong, but the 1/2" (largest) is a different style and the 7/32" (second from right) is just too shiny.

22 Apr 23c.jpg

When I saw the Indestro KlipTite kit I was impressed with the color match of the spraybomb. When I saw it was a complete metric set, it jumped into my bag.
22 Apr 23d.jpg

I think I now officially have a collection of Schrader tire gauges.
The Walden 3150 1/4" rat needs a little love--the face plate is held on by two different non-original screws. One is brass that is peened on and the other is a shiny chrome that was ground down to size but has incorrect threads.
The 50' Roe black steel tape was just too bright to leave behind.
The 4" adjustable was in with the distributor kit and the oxide finish is obscuring the manufacturer. I can make barely out 704-S and can will myself to see Proto but there is something else I cannot see. The date code is Z*9*3
Always happy to pick up fresh Yankee drill points. This has all but the 5/64"
Herbrand A-391 3/8 to 1/2 adapter, Plomb WF-24 universal and 5261 7" ext.
Back to the top, a barely used Proto Pro 5492 1/2" impact set.

So we hit "both sides of the fence" today. We hit some Flea Markets and Garage Sales and bought a few things. We also donated 4 bags of no longer needed clothing to the local VNA for their sale next month.

I picked up a cute little 1/4 "Breaker bar" (seems like an oxymoron). It's marked "Grants" and "WTG NO 5-3355".

I can't find anything about "Grants" or by the Part Number.

Cheers

Jim
Jim,
I am just getting to writing up my last Sunday's find Grandpas toolbox .In it is the 3/8" version of a Grant's breaker bar. I'll be interested in what the collective can tell us.

I had five stops planned for today, with decent results. I ended up only going to three, as one only listed a street (I hate when they do that) and one lead me one a goose chase, maybe? or I had a bad address, not sure, but any way:
52837389302_5bda6dc15b_c.jpg
First stop was hell and gone out there, which I have had good and bad luck with lately, but I like the photos, so I chanced it. A little pricy, but I like the company, and ended up finding what I at first thought was a Stanly #4 series 11, and a Brown and Sharpe surface gauge. Second stop was a shop guys garage, but it was mostly junk tools. I did, however, manage to find the little grey tool box hanging shelf, VW emblem, Snap-on combo, and what I thought were Channelock plies. The third stop was disappointing, as the ad showed a 6" Craftsman lathe, but it was marked NFS. Not that I need another lathe, but... Anyway, I found the Thorsen 1/4 ratchet, Starrett calipers, Xacto knife, some new 10-32 taps, brass coat hook, 3into2 electrical plug, Proto screw starter, and the box for a vintage electric soldering iron. All three stops set me back $28. And aside from sales with misleading photo's or only listing a street name, I also rather dislike it when wives walk around shops holding the phone up and narrating a video call for husbands and I have to listen to both of them.

About that no. 4. I was looking at it at a stop light, and it felt heavy. Well, when I had a better chance, I looked closer, and it turns out it is actually a #4-1/2! And then, when I looked even closer, I found a well repaired crack in the side. No one was trying to hide it, it was just well done. So, from highs to lows, all in 5 minutes.

I’ve already given alinc a “you ****” for Grandpas toolbox, but I’m now thinking this one might be worthy for a pick of the year nominee.

Hans ***** for his sub $5 SK ratchet and Old Radar for his pick with the Proto impact set.

Well done fellas.

I took a vacation day Friday like I do every year to go to Spring Carlisle. I go with a list and this year I was laser focused on sticking to it. Was a long and fantastic day of digging to fill some holes in my sets, with a couple small detours off my list. Carlisle usually demands premium pricing, but you do find some hidden gems here and there.

A couple Craftsman sockets for sets and a Bonney because. $2
866EA2A9-2F03-4C99-99C4-EEF4F418DFFB.jpeg

SK 1/4” deeps, 3/8 extension, and a Cornwell DOE. $3
8D0AF522-E20B-459E-BBF7-F97814D6E677.jpeg

A Lesney Matchbox Speed King. The King series is getting harder to find and even though this one was painted up, I didn’t have one so I jumped on it for $3. FDFB25A3-27E1-4E79-BD72-3D95680E246C.jpeg

SK 1/4” sockets and MAC bit sockets. The bottom row of SK is metric. $5
6148027B-ABFE-4E68-8584-7C163971329B.jpeg

Snap on mini pick and a very old Blue Point DOE. $4. Not on my list but sometimes ya gotta.
D5D78F17-9DDA-40BB-A69D-E1041C6753F9.jpeg

This pic is from a vendor I love supporting. They have premium prices but they always have something I need and welcome me coming in with a list, and they bundle for me. MAC, Cornwell, and Wright wrenches and a MAC 6mm socket. $65 for this lot which is very fair considering the MAC wrench prices.
B2B68FF7-FF24-4860-B413-62EEC858FAE2.jpeg

1/2” Craftsman ratchet that completes a rat set for me. $5
6BB06E43-FB2A-4CA9-97D3-8356177EA567.jpeg

Wright 1” and a Cornwell combo. Both for sets. $15.
7C9C940E-12EA-4F23-A8DC-E4EE830E21A0.jpeg

Next stopped me in my tracks. MAC 3/8 drive XR11FPA that I’ve been trying to find a reasonable deal on for a long time. Marked $50 which is about half of market and I got him down to $40. Gonna need some attention on the action, but deal of the day for me.
6B0A2C2E-7345-481F-9C64-2FA0465F3C04.jpeg

Finally a MAC 14mm socket to complete my set. I rooted for this one hard and when the guy asked me for $5 I couldn’t get my money out fast enough. I’ve been trying to find one in the wild for a long time and the guy knew it and he could have named any price, but I buy stuff from him every year and he knows I’ll be back.

Sorry for such a long post, but I had a great treasure hunting day.

I don’t know much about them other than I think they were a store brand, and the bulk of socketry seems to have been made by the Pendleton Empire (similar to Penens, Fleet, Proto,etc.).

WT Grant - a variety/five and dime store that I remember from waaaaay back. Haven't seen one in decades. Went out of business totally in 1976.

Haven't been doing much lately but Friday morning I did get out to one sale--bmw, if the garage you were referring to had a red MGB and a few junk motorcycles in it, we may have been at the same sale. A Craftsman T-handle tap wrench #4067, two 6" C clamps--one Willliams and one Jorgensen and a Craftsman Allen wrench set. The bulk of the tools were import-grade junk. There was one older Stack-on 6-drawer box, nice older style but something I didn't need.

Flea market finds. The place was quite dead and packing up early with “season“ winding down.

I was forced to buy a shoebox of stuff I didn’t want (not pictured) to get a couple of these pieces. The seller was irritated and short with me from people trying to buy pieces that he wanted to sell all together. I get it they don’t want to be a career tool seller and would rather dump off the whole box. It doesn’t mean someone else wants to both pay more, and buy the entire box of mismatched contents. Oh well. It wasn’t a ton of money so I did it for the couple pieces.

That said, here is the haul.

Metcoid locking pliers, Husky extension, Craftsman ratcheting box wrenches and Long C folding rule, free brush, Sears hex drive socket set, Proto six inch adjustable.

Mechanicraft alligator wrench with screwdriver end.

Yeah, that is the one. That company will usually do me solid, but as you see, I didn't find much. There was a later SK machinist box, but I have too many machinist boxes as is.

PXL_20230422_201846983-X3.jpgHere is my haul from 3 planned stops Friday afternoon. Left work early to finish stuff at home, as they didn't expect my data until 5pm.

First stop was the Toy store closeout I hit two weekends back. Not much tool wise, but grabbed some HO scale train engines and transformers. Also found a little metal box with Welsh Manufacturing on it. Seemed a nice size, so into the box it went.

Next stop was one I had hit before also, and they are struggling to move stuff, prices are too high. Did find a nice Lufkin 50' cloth tape measure, at an acceptable price.

Last stop was an ES of a rock hound, mostly lots of fun rocks that I had no interest in. There were other tools which may have been used to cut and polish rocks. I found a few items which could cross over to other worlds. But also lots of bits and pieces of other tools, like the guts of a table saw. Suspect he was building custom rock cutters and polishers, based on the pieces that were partially assembled.

L-R, 2 Cincinnati clamps, one B&C, and one only marked 152. Next up, two saws, the coping saw with an X-Acto handle, and a smaller fret saw labeled X-Acto 043. Next is a backsaw blade missing a handle, and a square to hex converter, marked USA, and then the Lufkin Tape.

We found a few estate sales to check out today. The first sale had a well used but functioning Drill Doctor, an ugly Stanley square, a Walden spinner, a Nicholson file and some small Channellock dykes.IMG_8337.jpeg
We only found two pipe wrenches at the second sale, a nice Ridgid and a Walworth Stillson.IMG_8331.jpeg
The last Oakland Hills estate sale had the best selection. A Millers Falls hacksaw, two Plomb DOE wrenches, a local interest ruler, three Craftsman long C wrenches, a lightly used Stanley Yankee push drill in the box, odd longnoses (passed on to Shiftless), Utica dykes, Stanley Hurwood and Irwin screwdrivers and some Barcalo pliers.

Dowel Centers for marking holes on mating pieces of wood to be joined together. You can put them in pre-drilled holes and the point marked the opposite piece, or slip the end over a dowel and mark the opposing piece.

Picked up the last lot from my recent online auction binge. I paid $99 after all the fees and taxes were assessed. I really just wanted the Portapower set, and am hoping to flip the rest to make back my purchase price.

Unbranded Portapower system. Seems to have all of the parts, but the labels are worn off the hydraulic cylinder, so can't tell if it's a 4- or 10-ton setup.
20230419_162201.jpg

Included in the Portapower box was this Made-in-England Felco Mark II hydraulic jack. The company is still in business and specializes in "precision lift hydraulic jacks". This one is rated at 10 tons and 1.5 inches of lift. It was dry, but when I filled it with 80-weight oil, it pumped right up.

20230419_180028.jpg

Wright Manufacturing 1-1/2-ton chain fall. The thing is massive, and I estimate from the 1930s. Dirty and beat up, and I still need to verify it works, but it should bring some decent coin if functional.

KR-300 Snap-on Rollabench tool cart. This was a surprise, as the chest was covered in grime and unrecognizable as Snappy from the auction pics. Given the logo, this might be pre-war, but I'm no Snap-on expert. I'll cross-post to the Snap-on thread for some help. This cart is missing its nifty work light and the side handle, the drawers are stiff and the paint is peeling in places, but I'm hoping someone wants it enough to buy it off of me.

Finally, the contents of the tool chest: about a hundred pounds of drill bits, reamers, huge mills bits, Allen wrenches and taps. Some are unused, some are very worn. These will go on the market, too.20230419_162215.jpg
Interesting roller! The holes on the side made me think of a Blackhawk roller and the pull out handles. Regardless, you **** majorly!

You ****... Twice.

Mike
But for the sake of this thread he only ***** once 😂👍(since the other grinder was in the past)

I have a dirt lane to plow in the winter & my trucks tires are no good in the mud or snow, so I was pleased to pick up these 2 sets of new tire chains at a yard sale with mostly video gamer stuff at 5 bucks a set.
I didn't expect to need them so soon.
but my S10 that is my farm truck & chained up year round took a **** will be out of commission for a while.
Yesterday we had a hard storm & I have a lot of trees down that need to be at least dragged to a better area.
So today I mounted the chains.
They are a new to me "cam lock" style. Not sure If I trust them, but so far so good.
I have all the wood needed for the next 2 years split & stacked so really was hoping for a chainsaw break, sigh...

MrsLS & I headed down to Jake’s Flea on rt100 this morning as the overnight rain was giving way to the promise of sunny skies. We intended to transition over to Quakertown Flea afterward, but after $56, I felt I had enough fun to fill up this afternoon, so home again.
IMG_8950.jpegCraftsman Heritage roller intact, but missing paint and the lower drawer needs its glides straightened.
IMG_8949.jpeg
Junk inside included a BluePoint combo. IMG_8952.jpeg
Otherwise, it was mostly a screwdriver day for me, purchased from three or so vendors. IMG_8951.jpeg
Also said hi to Rickster and glanced through his well-organized merch. Now, to get some cleaning done before my son lands in ABE and the weekend evaporates.

I had visions of Lugz dancing in my brain when I saw the OD canvas roll shoved to the back of a low shelf...
You're right that it's past my niche, but I kind of like the labeled pouches. 1953 is about as late as you'll find a wartime era FSN. The configuration of the wrenches is atypical with the severe obstruction angle, usually 15 x 60 or 15 x 75. S.I. Jacobson is still in business, still making tool rolls for the government and others. There's a similar if not same pouch on the VB with Giller wrenches in it. Your is cooler with the WW wrenches, and that largest WW wrench is very cool. I have a couple DOEs with that raised lettering grip but it's even cooler on an obstruction wrench.

I used one like that as my "welding bench" for many years, I had a 1/2" sterl plate I cut to fit, and a folding Side shelf (braced with a strut) with a small (grounded) vise, and a tiny 4" grinder. the right side had a hanging cabinet and the Lincoln 125 wire feed sat on top of that.

Got any pics? That sounds pretty busy!

Hauled this out of the car tonight. Caught a late yard sale on the way to dinner yesterday.

A painted over two drawer mid machinist box, maybe a Kennedy, didn’t take a good look. A number of wrenches and old beater Schrade knife caught my eye In all that rust.

The more interesting stuff I set on top.
-Free 2pc Husky set
-Precision Bilt wrench by Barcalo
-2 Plomb tappets and ignition wrench
-Billings Lifetime wrench
-Hinsdale combo
-Utica 4”, Proto 6” adjustables
-a few Snap-On wrenches
-Plus some loose items not in the box. Old Proto battery cable puller, Proto case with Proto and Snap-On allen bits, Craftsman 1/4 rat, Snap-On 1/2 rat.

Yesterday was yard sale day with my grandson. Some goodies for him and squat for me and Mom Mom. Stopped by the Goodwill and scored some wrenches, which never happens at our local store. Herbrand and Thorsen combos and an unknown Japan combo.

As soon as we walked in to the Goodwill, a unicorn jumped out at me. A pair of shoes I’ve wanted for a long time (without paying full blown retail). Red high top Converse. $15. Make fun of me all you want but it was a euphoric moment for me. I was really kinda in shock the rest of the day.

After we arrived home my neighbor walked over and gave me a Walden 1/2” drive speed wrench from his shed clean out.

Today I finished getting my Easter Saturday acquisition fully back together and operational.
