Reminder. If you can't find an 11-digit FSN in a Google search, add -00- (country code placeholder) to make it a more modern 13-digit NSN and it will very likely (but not always) give you the right information. So, 5140-00-322-6009, instead of 5140-322-6009.

Quick trip to the flea this morning gleaned the following small haul (Lugz 2023_14).

2023_13.jpg

I am most excited about adding the oiler to my collection. It has a cool very unusual apparatus and a mfgr's and brand name I was not familiar with. Much more on the 'Oilers' thread when I get it cleaned up.

Unknown ignition wrench roll. Leatherette, so I would never leave it behind. More on the 'Roll-Ups' thread later.

Barcalo tappet. Not sure if it's a size I need or not, but, NBLB. More on the 'Tappet wrenches' thread later.

The pliers I got just to send to a GJ member. His username is stamped on the pivot! More down on the VB when I surprise him with it. Just need to find an appropriate thread. He's not a reggler on the Garage Sale thread.

That oiler looks like a regular equipment oiler but with a different tip brazed on. I look forward to hearing about it later, because I rarely see any manufacturing on the ones around here.

A Challenger 13mm combo wrench $.75.

I do not particularly like them ( they are only stamped on one side, and it is the wrong side), but it was like brand new.

The metal god got it’s offering, and is happy for another day.

One sale today I had earmarked in case I got off work early(which I did) I managed to find all this for less than a BigMac Meal with a $2 off coupon. Which in a way is good/bad...I might have bought more stuff but the chart on the wall had small tools at $2 and up, I'm thinking I've already spent $15 to 20ish and was selective on things I bought. When I got to the register the clerk peeked in my bag and declared $7. Now I could have put this lot in the car and went back, but the left behinds were not exactly needed stuffs, like loose Bondhus drivers, just stuff you wouldn't pick up at $2+/piece. Now knowing it was super cheap, I should have went back and seen if I could make a set or two,but in all honesty I rarely use the sets I do have. The funny part is this sale was in ecotec's backyard and I had expected to log into GJ and see some of the items that were not there in a post from him.

If Alinc was at the same sale, I got there way later and spent 75 cents.

I take that back… I remember seeing all of that stuff in Madison Heights.

A almost grabbed the one Wright socket out of the basement… but I couldn’t talk myself into it.

Got these today at the lonely singles bin at a pawn shop for $12
IMG_20230526_150404709.jpg

Craftsman, fuller, proto, more craftsman, Blackhawk, sk, channellock, thorsen, KD.

Can't say I recall seeing tubing cutters with the retractable deburring bit. No idea if that things fairly old or not but Its made in Japan and I like it.

Most of these say they're made some place called "ooosa" spelled USA. I've heard of it but I thought it was an old wives tale.

Yep, thats the one. In the ad pictures there were a few sets of sockets in steel cases/rails that were long gone when I got there. But it was mid-day day 2 so no surprises they were gone. I haven't put anything "away" yet but it will be interesting to see if sockets like the Wright fill a gap in the wright sockets I have or a duplicate...

I only found one sale on Craigslist and Estatesales.org that mentioned tools so off we went this morning. We were a little late and the garage looked picked over but we found some decent tools.IMG_9101.jpeg
The estate sale company tried to bundle a few good tools with lots of Chinesium but I wouldn’t play that game and left the **** behind.

I feel confident this was a Bonney socket set although the box has no sign of any Bonney marking.
25 May 23d.jpg
Look at p7 of the 1933 or p5 of the 1934 catalog. It sure looks right. If it is Bonney of that generation, it may have residue of a tartan triangle in a back corner on top of the lid, though many other sets are shown with the tartan on the underside.

Agreed, every time I hit the pawn bins I'm just hoping for anything Wright......I guess they weren't too popular in my current area.

Although I'm dying to get some of the newer contour ratchets....which I'm sure I'll have to get new.

Estate sale ($50): Oil can and funnel; 3 in 1 oil; Globe fish tape; Sioux corded impact drill; Propane kit for shrinking electrical sheathing; Grommets kit; Delta Shopmaster sharpening stone; Argon and acetylene tanks; Crosscut saw; Hand rivet gun; Diamond wrenches; Lathe wood chisels; aluminum push pull rods; Spiral binding system; 2 military winches for electrical cable.

I must admit my grabby side got the best of me. When the door opens, you've got to be ready to hopefully grab not as much as I did. This is from the garage sale with the vintage drill press.

Picked these up last weekend. The Rapid Tap bottles are unopened. The SO impact set is missing one socket but otherwise looks unused. The 98-4 looks brand new. It’s odd because the shop they came out of looked more like the clamp and vise grips. I even flushed out a few mice while rummaging around. $35 for the lot and yes I hope to go back soon.

IMG_5770.jpeg

Fast forward to today and at a different place I came home with a new Delta project. I’ll post more on this in the vintage section.

Contents of the pickup that needed to be emptied out so we can make our last trip to the Hoarder Mechanic. Don't have a ton of time to itemized these items but here are the highlights. Also rediscovered a toolbox that I had missed.

Champion Spark Plug Cabinet, Rear tank from a Sprint car (?), Alemite Handy Set, Atlas battery jumper pack, Niehoff tune up cabinet, Ridgid 36 pipe wrench.

Alemite Handy Set,
That is a terrific find. If you're not keeping, totally flip-worthy. There are big time Alemite collectors with benches and carts who would love that. I have never seen that before. I guess it was for toting extra grease canisters? It would make a really cool wine caddie in a party garage. :)

Can’t recall whether this added up to $15 or $20 at Jake’s flea this morning. I think it was $15.
LSS 6” rule, Bridgeport offset, 2 Bonney does, Bonney-mfd TuHex 180 dbe, four sockets, unmarked S-wrench, Stanley drivers, Crescent-mfd Buddy-“L” slipjoints, Utica Button’s pliers (most expensive single item at $5), Bonney-mfd 2-1/2” vise, 2 Herbrand ignition does, 2 Williams Tappet does.
First weekend I’ve been comfortable without a mask (pollen allergies). Can hardly wait to go to Blue Ridge flea tomorrow with my bride of 35 years.
Edit - somehow I picked up a modern Snappy 1/4dr 6pt socket instead of the D-I 1/4dr 8pt socket I was reaching for while chatting with one of the vendors. Oh well.

Apparently, the Buddy-“L” slipjoints originally came in a tool chest. Did not know that. It will be hard to pass up a Disston-mfd Buddy-“L” saw if I ever see one…

I've had a little luck this spring, although there still aren't a lot of garage sales in the area. We did get to some Thursday sales in a neighboring town because of wife's appointment there, and then Friday there were some closer, but not much special. A neighborhood sale was tempting and I did find a Craftsman tool chest reasonable and full of odds and ends of tools, most of which will get thrown, go to my sons, or go in the "for sale" box. There was a Craftsman circular saw, Arrow staple gun and lots of boxes of staples, a KeenKutter K5 plane and many "etc" items. The saw goes to a son and I may clean up the K5 plane as I don't have this exact one yet. At the Thursday sales I found a set of Wiha nut spinners, 3/32 to 1/4 inch, an Xcelite set, a couple of small wrenches, a Craftsman block plane and extra blade and a couple of unmarked plastic Yankee-type push drills with drill bits.

Rear tank from a Sprint car (?),

Sprint or Midget depending on size. is it a tank of the back body shell? if a tank adn not a fuel cel, it has to be near 50 years old.

Coleman grill/stove, basically in new condition

I have one of those, sort of handy, but do not use the oven over that grill! you will melt the alumimum grill.. Aak me how I know?

a nice 50 year old Buck 110 from Goodwill.
Nice find! I like bucks quire a bit!

OK slow on planned (4, one being late and a second trip) and a ton of TOO's mostly a pretty slow day, a fer interesting finds:

A TOO had an old No-adhesive tape dispenser, (still full!) - the tape only sticks to itself - I thought that was a fairly new thing... The blue tape says Maxwell (house) but both are marked Caswell Coffee, a Singer screwdriver knock off, and I'm guessing a sugar spoon? The SO hook was another TOO, and free!

Y1 Max Sing Y2 Gauztex Y3 Hook.jpg

Two bucks for the pot "feet" stands at a planned stop:

Y4 Por feet.jpg

the later run planned stop: $5 each for the new sealed in box, Presentation Easels -completely out of date office tech, but that make decent lantern stands.

Y5 Stands.jpg Y5 Stands det.jpg

And $10 for the lithium AAA's about 30? so about half off. dates is for 12-2038

Y5 lith.jpg

The rest were all TOO's:

Lamp shade - the "skin" ia leather! its pretty wide - 24" X 10" tall and the hole is 6" so a fairly flat profile. I may trade it to a Coleman lamp person or I may use it on one myself?

T1 Shade.jpg

Vintage domino's from the same place a buck, Red spinners were a buck, the brass one a buck, Enders (USA) 1/8" roll pin punch, the Rod socks adn mini clothing pins were a buck.

T1 Dominos, Tx, Rod sox C pins F spinners punc.jpg

Cents fifty for the coins and a little league officials pin. Coins were, L - R Pakistan, The Netherlands, Israel, Austria, and Italy

My Haul from today, nothing too fancy, all planned stops, one TOO yielded nothing. From the left, an Airmaster plus compressor for an airbrush, a pile of LED fluorescent tube replacements, Poetry wine box to be repurposed for tool storage, Starrett Hi Tension hacksaw (my third?), and two items from 1999, Bessey Strap Clamp, made in Germany, and Testor airbrush kits.

For the airbrushes, no idea if any of the paint is still good, or if the compressor works, but its extra bits of kit for my existing system, as I learn to use it, for almost no cost of admission.

The LED tubes seem to have 1-3 LEDs which are flickering (out of 96), which may drive me batty in the shop, but for other purposes, should be fine. But a bonus thought struck me as I was trying to figure out *********** one LED (maybe tape over the bad ones). These metal extruded tubes and lenses can be retrofitted with 12V LED tape strips, and made into low profile garage lights, without a fixture. I was looking for something to fit between the ceiling mounted storage rack, and the garage door (2-3"), and was investigating LED tape lights, but the extrusion and lens was more than the LED tape. So potential solution in hand, for silly cheap.

But, I found out these are wired differently than my existing bulbs, which supply voltage on each pin at one end. These supply voltage to both bins at opposite ends, which blew out the switch on one of my fixtures. Need to label the fixture as to which is which, for next time.

I hit an interesting sale on Thursday, with a lot of heavy duty Grizzley wood working machines. Not my thing, but interesting to see. Plus I found a few good things.
52928836074_1604946a4a_c.jpg
Brass shim stock, Snap-on duel flex head, Stanley sweetheart driver, Armstrong SOE.
After that I headed to the Restore, as they are having a storewide sale. There I found a Lincoln grease gun, Jacobs chuck, and GTD tap wrench
Hit one sale on Friday, which was a bust.

Today, I planned three stops before I had to do something, and it worked out OK. The first stop was a bust, as everything I was interested sold yesterday. Second stop I bought this:
52931102548_5e9c6a80a2_c.jpg
Well, that and the contents:
52931103908_9d2bf64ab1_c.jpg
Well, the box and the contents. There was a lot of interesting stuff, and as I walked around, I started picking things up, as the prices were nice. First thing I grabbed was the Hunter holster, and then the socket box with NPT taps with the die stock attached. Then I started checking the tool boxes, and in the SK box I spotted the hole saw and the two Starrett boxes. Grabbed that, and the Snap-on driver, Greenlee chisel, and I couldn't pass on the Square D drum switch. But, when I was making a final pass around the tables, I spotted the spurs. No way I was going to pass those up, not when I noticed the B B marking: Bob Blackwood.
Oh, what is in those Starrett boxes, you ask?
52930820334_ed30b0075f_c.jpg
A metric micrometer, and a .0001 dial gauge, which is sadly missing the lens. Not a huge deal for me, as I will keep it in the box for most of the time.

At the last stop, I found this, a nice topper for the day:
52930804259_f033942566_c.jpg
a wartime edition, and Greene is one of my favorite authors. All told, this weekends haul set me back less than $40, and selling the spurs should easily take care of that.

I'm fairly sure Sprint, based on the bolt holes and that it's one piece. Still cool though.

Picked up the last load, not as much stuff this time. My brother grabbed a majority of the stuff, I'll try to let you know the highlights from his part of the haul. Got more of the back story on the load. Turns out Grand Dad to the guy was a small engine repair at Sears just down the street. That explains why there is so much Sears/Craftsman stuff in the house. As a small engines guy, he was a bit of a tinkerer in other things, small aircraft and motorcycles. Then the Dad to the guy came along and was a mechanic focusing more on Mopar. There were random fenders, side glass, and bent up bumpers. The family pulled out piles of tires (50?) and scrap iron. There won't be much to update, the family really organized stuff for us and I've kinda hijacked this thread.

First up, we grabbed this homemade "motorcycle" with a Briggs kickstart motor. So weird and so heavy, we couldn't leave it behind. The family just asked to keep the 1947 (!!!!) license plate. No idea what we are going to do with it. I actually have another Briggs kick sitting on a shelf.
IMG_7992.JPG

I was kind of excited about this Columbian vise when I saw it because it was on a bench covered in stuff. Unfortunately, there's a busted tab on it. Not sure what I'm going to do with it (like all the rest of the stuff).

IMG_8012.JPG
IMG_8013.JPG

Loaded up the Delta drill press as well, too cool. Don't have a buyer for it yet but I don't mind it sitting around. I like looking at it.

IMG_8014.JPG
IMG_8015.JPG

Also grabbed this engine stand, didn't want to let it go to scrap.

We made it to a few planned sales today. The first one was a few blocks away in the parking lot of a church. I was surprised to see a box of tools. I lightened the box a little and the price was so low I almost felt bad, but not quite. A really early and little wartime Ridgid, Blue Point ball pein, a couple of Superrenches, large 1/2“ and 3/4” drive sockets and a Mac puller set.IMG_9124.jpeg
The second Berkeley sale produced a vise that I picked up for Shiftless. IMG_9122.jpegThe third sale was an El Cerrito estate sale that was a total bust. The fourth was a Pleasant Hill garage sale that was also a waste of time. The last sale is hard to describe. There was table after table of old tools, mostly worthless but every so often there was something worth grabbing.IMG_9127.jpeg
Rather than start another Jeep can controversy, I just grabbed a Jeep can holder.IMG_9128.jpeg
Here are the tool finds. Plenty of them are in the evaporust.IMG_9126.jpeg

I've been too busy with work, family stuff, and an ongoing brake job from hell to even check in on this thread, but I see lots of suckage...

@brockmub Great job saving the Delta DP and that engine stand. Wish I were closer to you!

I was not expecting to find 1970 Road Runner rear trim, one post is broken but still look cool. Maybe someone will need them someday and can help them out.

Found a hex drive set as well as a hex drive Snap-on though they might not go together.

Emptying another bin, found a license plate toper, folding ruler with some neat brass features, and Craftsman bits still in their cases.
