Oldsmobile ***** for that sweet Indestro Monkey Ward set! Post your Vacuum Grips here.

gleman--I doubt those Lazyboy arms are bleached by the sun. That looks like oily/sweaty skin bleach. Probably explains the need for refinishing the lever, too. Use some good leather cleaner before you attempt any dye. I use Lexol.
Thanks OR! I'm using this stuff:

The first coat looks like it did a world of difference. I'll hold my fire before I start dying or painting.

I couldn't say no to a $1 Indestro / Montgomery Wards 1/2" socket set.

IMG_2631.JPG

I couldn't find a Wards catalog online for any clues as to age, but I was guessing 1930s. It has 1/2, 9/16, 19/32, 5/8, 21/32, 11/16, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, and 1.
IMG_2632.JPG

Here's another handful that cost $1--I always grab Vacuum-Grip pliers when I see them now. And the little Picquic screwdrivers are cool.

IMG_2636.JPG

Finally, I located at a surplus/warehouse sale a supply of Boraxo. I bought every box they had and it turned out it was on half-price day. $17.49 for eleven five-pound boxes. I should be set for life now.

IMG_2640.JPG

I think you overpaid for the Boraxo...

...yes, I'm joking. You **** for all of that!

@Oldsmobile , you ****!

$1 1/2" set in a nice box.

Are the Picquic TeenyTurners or Stubbys?

I don't know what I'd do with that much boraxo but I'd bid on it too!
Aw, thanks! They're TeenyTurners, with little bits in them. #0, 00 Phillips, and small Torx (5, 6, 8), and flatheads marked 2 and 3 (mm, I suppose). I'm sure going to find a use for them.

A what in the where?
Sorry, I spelled it wrong - “Stanloid” was Stanley’s proprietary name for their celluloid handles, introduced in 1934. They had a different profile than this one, in the top bin of the Kennedy cantilever toolbox you posted.
IMG_9164.jpeg
Under the crud (which I would clean with a baby wipe), I’m guessing it says “Stanley.” It looks to be about 80 years old (if it has those ribs between each of the flats). If the ribs are between every other flat, it’s probably less than 70 years old.
There are several threads on old screwdrivers, but that one would look good posted here.
Then again, maybe I’m just seeing things, and it’s a completely different brand.

We went to two quite different estate sales today. The first was in the Oakland hills The estate sale company is inexperienced and had many of the tools marked with eBay pricing. I left most of the priced tools behind and concentrated on finding unmarked ones. When I checked out the seller ignored all of the prices and gave me a very fair price for everything. IMG_9237.jpeg
I immediately discarded most of the sockets on the racks. IMG_9238.jpeg
Xcelite toolsIMG_9245.jpeg
S-K Tools metric combosIMG_9240.jpeg
One of my favorite style of Proto combos. It’s now residing in my user toolbox IMG_9249.jpeg
The second sale was overwhelming. It was the Martinez estate sale of a true tool hoarder and I seldom use that term. There were at least a thousand wood planes. It made me glad that I wasn’t into those. I only bought a few things because prices were fairly high.
Large Plomb screwdriver, double ended Crescent, Powr-Kraft spark plug socket and an early curved handle Keystone adjustable IMG_9233.jpegIMG_9247.jpegIMG_9252.jpegIMG_9255.jpeg

I love a sale like that, but not on the first day. There is one I am waiting for on Saturday, and it should be a doozie. But I will time my self to be there a couple hours later. Also, there is one down the street from me that look interesting. As soon as I finish my current project (air conditioning my bedroom) I will stroll on down.

Wow, Don!
Those images may buy me some breathing space in the ongoing “what are you going to do with them” debate.

Oldsmobile = You **** for the $1 Indestro/Monkey Wards and the $1 Vacuum Grips.

3jakes = You **** for the Craftsman/Snappy 1/4 set.

One sale today. had a fair amount of tools. Couple Coleman lanterns in the pics,I would have grabbed (if affordable) but they were gone I assume quickly. Folks running the sale said 1st in line, and passing out street numbers was there at 3:30 am ,way too early for me without a ton of potential. Suprisingly most of the tooling was there and I managed this list. I should note I paid about the equivalent of a tank of gas but 2 items stuck out for me the Proto drill and the nearly new index and drills in a factory box. Unpictured ,but I grabbed the 1974-75 Craftsman tool Catalog.

I was a little worried that my copilot would have had enough after yesterday’s exhausting sales but we were off to Oakland for another estate sale this morning. We found some goodies in the garage and I found a few more in the backyard. I’m sure that our granddaughter will like the Jeeps.

I think I may have had the Jeep on the right in the closeup s a kid... two to be exact. I bent a couple hoops out of coat hanger wire and my Mom made me a top out of green denim...

Palmer Welloct. Meadville, PA. They started out as Palmer Brothers making slip-joint water pump and utility pliers with "Welloct" (a phonetic play on words for "well-locked") as a brand name and later it became part of the name of the company. I didn't even know they made hammers. I guess they diversified.

The drill in the photo is not part of the garage sale, fines or the three washers. Also both ratchet are claimed so is all the Proto stuff and the Williams line wrench the rest of that I am keeping unless you got a sweet deal.

I grabbed this last week at a yard sale for $1. An NOS Black and Decker drill bit sharpener. Seems like you use an electric drill to turn the sharpener. I have no idea if this thing is any good or not and can't seem to find much about it online. It came without the instruction manual and I can't seem to find one online either. Anyone have any info on this?PXL_20230531_234903631.jpgPXL_20230531_234943189.jpg

I have the same thing but with a built in motor. I didn't realize they made it with a detachable head to use on a drill. If you search B&D drill sharpener you will see the same head with built in motor. as for using it...its ok

I went to two estate sales yesterday, one a block away from me, were I knew the former occupant on a neighborly basis. Mostly just sad to see a nice old man go. Nothing to speak of, tool or treasure-wise.

The other sale I would have gone to on Thursday, but Craigslist had it listed as being in the city to the south of me, and not in my little town. Which was too bad, as there was some great stuff there when I was there at the end of the second day. Oh well, at lest she was open to offers. Anyway:

Cleveland reamer in original packaging, lathe inserts, NOS Disston file assortment in box, NOS Lufkin 18" combo square blade, and, my favorite find, Brown & Sharpe die makers square with all three blades in box.

I saw the version on eBay. I have a feeling mine is the cheaper version. One ebay listing had one with the original price tag of $19.99.
I think this one will be thrown in the yard sale pile.

Thanks. Here are a couple more pictures from the listing. The seller says that there is another shed full of hand tools that hasn’t even been gone through yet. He’s planning more sales in the future.

Maybe you can offer to help him pre-sort, and get first picks!

Been a long time since I posted anything, life's been busy and haven't had the time to chase tools much. Our local(ish) flea market did start back up and I've gone by a few times. Also hit a few sales.

This pic and the next are from the flea, first couple times I went I didn't find much but this last visit was pretty good. I think I spent $40 for everything in both pics.

Sockets on top of the box are various iterations of SK, then there's a few randoms on the left. Stuff on the right is Plomb and P&C. Ironically the piece I'm most excited about is the tiny Craftsman C-10 5/16" socket. I bought a set at an auction a while back and it was missing one piece, which happened to be the C-10! I almost wonder if the vendor got that socket in another lot from the same auction...
IMG_4658.jpg

Here's the rest of it, Plomb/Proto/P&C at top left, the old ratcheting wrench is Snap on, SK below that and then Bonney and Lakeside at the bottom. On the right is Indestro, Duro Chrome, and a bunch of Craftsman I needed to complete sets.
IMG_4660.jpg

This batch came from the last day of a big shop sale. This estate sale company used to be one of my favorites because they didn't overprice tools. Sadly they've brought some new people in and most stuff isn't even worth buying on half price day. I made a few exceptions, I think I paid $15 for this lot.

Armaloy tappet, Snap on combo, Proto LA flare nut, the black oxide sockets are Snap on. The two little calipers are Starrett.
IMG_4657.jpg

Finally some Plomb combos that I got from the antique mall. Was suprised to see these at a fairly reasonable price, $15 for all 6. I don't see many of the "LA" marked ones...

I was going to leave it behind because I don’t know what to do with it, but I figured I would be shunned for leaving a vise behind.
-Tommy
Absolutely!
Free vises shall not be left behind. If that one has a manufacturer name stamped in under all of that rust, it’s even more valuable.
