A drug-out day as I went to the Col FM, then a block sale, then Picked up my youngest as she was after some flamingo stuff (her
"aesthetic"), from one of the later further out sales. then came home had a short nap to shake a headache, then went back out for 2 more...

The FM was a bit slow adn on the Left behind was a dozen of so Plvmb, and similar era tools as it was "$30 for the box and tray -all" and I simply didn't want to carry that much weight for that little gain back to the car (> 1/4" mile away. He refused to bend adn also refused a lower offer on the "All" (mostly junk) He had the gall to Claim "Al of it will clean up!" (HA!)

So i spent a total of $8 elsewhere - Small body hammer (needs new handle) adn a SO ignition wrench and a SO 5.5MM Magnetic socket:

FM SO & Body Hammer.jpg

No name or marking; these "dots" are paint/Japaning flecks, (I could swear I've seen this style before, may even have one...)

FM Body Hammer.jpg

First yard/block sale:

Merit Ignition set in an OD Tool Role, No obvious Military markings? :dunno: $2

Y1 Mertit 1.jpg

Maker of the Roll:

Y1 Mertit 2.jpg

and the sizes adn Contents are marked mIA is Feeler Gauge ,Screw Driver, and Ignition Pliers:

Y1 Mertit 3.jpg

Same sale diffetn seller:

A Bucket boss tool roll

Y1 B boss.jpg

And a clamp on vise, $5 for both: THis vise had no maker or COO, But I suspect EU origin (No chrome anywhere, even though the paint leans me to Japan.

Y1 vise.jpg

On the way to the "Flamingo" place (where we were FAR too late; all were gone, gone, gone..)

Old Cheese box, Flag holder, (Paint not Brass) older Coes, Monkey Wrench, (L COES PAT, July 6, 18X0, July 8, 1884), a Barnes Bicycle wrench, adn a Cadillac Model 51 manual (1915?) -$10 all

Last of the "Early" run:

A $5 mini winch project (the last one went well, we shall see...) and a clamp on vise, but its US made and PEXTO! My first PEXTO vise finally - $10:

Y4 Winch, Pexto Vise.jpg

After I came home I found this on the door step - An Eprey Buy - a Feuerhand (Germany) mini lamp - these are all Pre WWii when Feuerhand was the largest lantern maker in the world (according to the interwebs) I got it WAY cheaper than the going rates,

The crappy gold spray bomb paint has to go however...

EB FEUERHAND.jpg

And the post nap run:

2 Putz Houses (Xmas decorations - I have 4 others from the 50's or before from my parents, old Xmas stuff), A "Paper boy", and a blown glass tree ornament. The Church is the first Putz church I have seen. $3 total

Hit up 2 estate sales today. The first one was picked over. The second one had a few things left and everything was 50% off. I got most of my haul there.

Knipex 97 crimpers $2.50
Proto 5468 1/2” drive breaker bar $4.00
S-K 5/8” combo $.50
Craftsman 1/2” ratchet $5.00
Proto 9/16” $.50
Craftsman 9/16” $.50
Craftsman 5/8” $.50
Craftsman 7/16” $.50
Amalite Phillips head $.50
Extension cord $5.00

I stopped by an antique mall after the last sale and found a football helmet from my high school. This would have been from the year after my senior season.

Love the body hammer. It looks to be high quality. Can't say I've ever seen that style before.

Went back to yesterdays yard sale to pick up the small pack of unbrakos I forgot and picked up 1 inch belt sander. Guy said it worked we plugged it in nothing… told me I can just take it.. took it home fixed the electric cord and it’s working unfortunately I broke the belt… 83CCE142-894D-45AD-AAC3-B57D3E1A8DB4.jpegB596693C-7F76-47B2-B392-79C1988D8C01.jpeg
Old belts fail at the glue joint, usually with the grit still intact and useable. For some reason, the belt-making industry hasn't progressed to a long-lived glue, and an unused belt several years old will fail at the glue joint pretty quickly, even if stored carefully.

Some people make their own belts from bulk rolls. They bevel the area to be glued and apply pressure until the glue sets. Too bad the amateurs haven't jumped to better glue and spread the word.

A good belt sander is one of the most useful tools in a shop, metal or wood. I have four 1 x 42 units, and keep different grits on each, even though belts are easy to change. Squaring up the table isn't hard, and pays off when trying to do precision work.

Some decent luck this weekend.

A couple Snap-On 27mm wrenches, Mac SAE line wrench, Goodyear tire spoon

Big 2" Williams wrench, Vulcan SAE wrench and a Cornwell distributor wrench. All came from a retired millright/rigging guy.

I didn't get out this weekend. Here are some odds and ends from an estate sale last month:
Estate Tools.jpg
Protape 100' tape. Like a logger's tape, but marked for rafters and studs. Feet and inches increments.
Unmarked tap handle ("1/4-1/2") and a 1/2 NC TRW tap
Greenfield T&D 10" pipe wrench
All -steel heavy duty screwdriver. No legible markings. I know Herbrand sold a version in the 1930's.
Dries & Krump DOE 1/2 x 3/4. Probably for a specific machine.

I have a bunch of never used belts that the joints failed on, I did some looking and the solution is contact cement adn filament tape. I need to setup a fixture for this, but supposedly it works.

I'm figuring a guide, and line top and bottom of the clamp with wax paper.

So, pickings were slim this week. No big sales that I had to rush off to, no small sales that I had to rush off to, for that matter. But, I did find some things.
53032747934_d4f1e5b3ca_b.jpg
All the tools here are from the Restore: Wright speeder from '47, Snap-on MV spinner, obstruction driver, and Snap-on Vaccum Grip brake tool. The three little bowls are from the first sale I hit today, of which I had to go up to the big city to find anything interesting. $1 for the bowls.

53032749619_8c53e4edf8_b.jpg
The second stop yeilded these: two early Spintites (one knurled for radio, the other 5/8"), an early Xcelite that someone adapted for non-conductive small screw driver, a MAC 3/8" spinner with old style handle, and a small Stilton wrench. But the real treasure at that stop were these:
53032575931_e8705e15c6_b.jpg
four Mission style dinning room chairs, slobbered with green paint and needing new upholstery. I got them at six buck each, so I am pretty happy with that. $25 for everything.

53033053448_6bba19df7a_b.jpg
The third stop was a family run, get everything gone sale, as I am sure that someone passed. Stuff everywhere, and a bit of digging found a roll of outdoor wire, some sort of clip for a backpacking stove(?), Proto impact flex, Indestro 1/4 socket, Stanley knife, roll of carburundum paper, trapazoidel socket box, APEX ph #1, Cresent flat head, MT2 bit, small wooden mallet, (2) shears (USA and Italian), and a unopened set of note cards. $5 all inclusive.

All other stops were busts.

Buddy of mine has a 4x48 or so belt sander, and all the belts that came with it were split at the seam.

I had just bought some 1/2" belts, and saw they were taped together from a bulk roll. He is now looking for the appropriate tape and directions on how to repair his belts. These are all **** spliced, with the abrasive beveled a bit, vs the lapped joints on the old belts. Just bought some 1x30 belts in AZ, will open them soon, but assume they will be **** spliced and taped.

Nothing great or Grand. Good MAC 3/8 XB11 Ratchet, Craftsman 1/2 44985 Ratchet, NIB K & E 50 ft CrownWyte Tape.

I though the Garage sale sign was appropriate.

Not shown: Craftsman Band Saw, box of copper pipe fittings, Webster Manual Typewriter, Silver Reed Typewriter, BAT Lantern GDR, LE & C hand crank Meat Grinder, Duo model E Carpet Stapler. Most everything USA. Overall, not overly expensive at $47.

I have a couple of questions. What is the Borg Warner Sack for? Is the Round shank Williams 8039 Superwrench early, has no signs of ever being plated (see close up photos). Alemite Stewart Warner Spring Spray intended use?

Outlawmws that vise is probably German, I had a very similar one but there was a 4 in the diamond instead of a 3. It had a decal that if I remember correctly had GMB or GMBH on it.n

The Spring Spray was probably for lubricating leaf springs on automobiles, before the advent of plastic wear pads placed on the wear points.

The Williams Superwrench could well have been made during WWII, when chrome plating was not allowed. It also could have been for the industrial market, where the cost of plating was optional. Either way, it was probably made before 1960, and perhaps as early as 1931.

These are the kinds of flea market hauls (Lugz 2023_27) that keep me going back again and again and again. Humid as hell here, and threatening to rain, I wasn't going to even go, and even as I was pulling in I could tell there weren't many vendors. Parked next to 'Bowhunter' (a guy I am friendly with, don't even know his name, nor he mine) talking at the back of his truck with two other guys, who said, "Don't bother," as a way of rating the offerings. But my tastes run a little older and a little more eclectic than his, and - not even going to feign modesty here, I have a much better eye.

20230_27.jpg

The bag for a Lorraine Controllable Driving Light Installation Tool Set is empty, but the marking is terrific, and so is the bag itself. Lift-the-Dot snaps! If you're not familiar with the light or its popularity, or the price of owning one, Google it. It will be fun to research what was in it.

After watching @LesserSon find them for a few years now, I was ecstatic to find the USMC box. It had a bunch of ceramic tiles in it. I will make a perfect display box for my USMC tools.

The SOE tappet wrench is a continental.

The "S" wrench is a Lakeside Forge.

Wow, that would be a lot of eyelets!

I went back to the place I got the Putz houses from looking specifically for any lost bits, (and helped them unwrap and table a bunch of stuff as I looked...), with no luck on that but I found more than I picked yesterday. they are still hauling more stuff out adn will be for days...

The XMAS stuff I can post (I have more but those are for presents...)

6 Jingle bells, 2 enameled bells as an ornament, a "Lantern" ornament, (I have my parents like this. so I'm always watching for more) 3 glass ornaments, and a beaded ornament.

Brett 2 J bells, C bells Orn Lantern orn.jpg

An old school Santa mat:

Brett 3 Santa Matt.jpg

And the non Xmas stuff: A ceramic duck to hang in the hall with my other Hunt/Fish/Camp stuff, and an old Glass door knob.

Brett 1 Duck Knob.jpg

Another canister of "American Plastic Bricks" My second adn hopefully between the two I now have, there are a full set of un-damaged pieces. This one is 459 pieces, the other set is 290.

little adventure yesterday a FBM pick. Listed as 2 toolboxes $300 each ,contents included come take it all, with no pics of the contents. 45 minutes later I'm phoning a friend with a pickup truck to meet me,very close to his side of town. I'll be unboxing and sorting for days. I managed to get the Waterloo drawers pulled, wiped down, relined and beginning to sort the various boxes/buckets/drawers we had emptied just to be able to load the boxes, the lower Craftsman 3 drawer is still in my Honda ,with a dozen boxes not yet unloaded.

Definitely Army, definitely 50s specs.

Where have I heard that before?! :) Seriously, this has been a theme and a mantra in the 2023 edition with an incidence more than any prior. From @bluebolt 's bottomless shed to you and many in between. The Year of the Big Hauls.

Went out to run an errand on the way to the dog park, and planned to hit a couple Sunday sales. These are usually just left overs, but what the heck.

No tools I was interested in, but I managed to find this old lamp. It is sixties vintage, but harkens back to an earlier time. Need a new swithc, which I had in my misc. electrical stuff. All fixed up, and it is wife approved.

Those vintage carrom gameboards sell well as interior decor. If that was a Mrs. Smokeshow snag, please pay her my compliments for having a good eye for junque.
**yes, the game board was a mrs. smokeshow find. This was included in the free barn pile haul a few weeks ago! She has good interior decor taste and I have good garage/tool/ mantique taste so we make quite the picking pair :) **

An unusual day at the flea. $20 for the new metric Proto set. $20 for the new SK set.
My dilemma; they are so nice I don’t know what to do with them 🤔. May have to sell.
James
** Ok, that proto set and the sk set is a you **** in my book! **
I don't have the "chutzpah" that my wife has while selling thing on FBMP. She doubles my initial thought of the listing price and every time it sells at or close to her value. She is the daughter of a wheeler dealer father so she watched him from as a child . . .

Today I picked up a Gilbert fan at the FM.

Gilbert_Fan_In_Situ (2).jpeg Gilbert_Fan_In_Situ (1).jpeg

Cheers

Jim
My wife wasn't selling anything on fb market place until earlier this year. When we moved into our current house, she found a ton of excellent furniture and decor on fb marketplace for cheap. Now that she has seen how easy it can be to buy and sell, she is off to the races. I've created a monster. She is constantly patrolling es and garage sale listings and sending me info on stops we should hit :)

Ok, weekend sale update for myself....Yesterday we hit some sales close by my house as we had to stay close because my dog had a grooming appt at 10am so we couldn't venture too far. I went to the first one near my house and it produced some finds right away
- vintage thor bench grinder
- 14" milwaukee abrasive metal chop saw ( already sold for $60)
-craftsman blow molded 1/4, 3/8,1/2 drive set (complete usa made)
-"diesel blitz" can of diesel engine treatment made by studebaker/packard
- 2 late 40's/50's traditional hot rod car club plaques - ( already sold one for $90 plus the ride on the bay)
-metal first aid kit box for my son to store stuff in
Total of $42

We dropped my dog off at the groomer and then were off to the races heading out into the country to hit some sales. We where really hoping to find some barn sales but alas none to be had. But we made up for it

- at a totally random TOO, I spotted a red old tool box from about 40' away. I blinked thinking , there is no way that is what I think it is.. As I slammed the truck in park and basically jumped out of my truck I ran over to the box. It is what I thought it was. It's a Blackhawk tool box here in the wild in the pacific north west. These are really uncommon around these parts. Plomb is plentiful here but not Blackhawk. It's missing a drawer but it's really straight and solid. I paid $40 for it and didn't think twice. It's from the "Caterpillar Serviceman's" set with faint traces of sticker under the lid. It's missing the medallion off the front but at least now I have a place to store my blackhawk!

While out and about my wife found a wicker chair, candelabra's and some wicker stools

-we got the call that my dog was done so we headed back and picked him up and then set out again.

- while out I scored a flipper craftsman home owner grade lower roller, some ww2/korean war airplane prints for my son. I also returned to the first sale and found more stuff after they put more out. I found a Craftsman long c ball pein hammer with original handle, mac chisels and craftsman heritage era punches. I also bought my wife this glass dome thing for her plants. She wanted it but didnt want to pay $20 so I got the seller to bundle the punches, hammer and this glass dome for $20

SDDP-22… $.50

…it has a J melted into it… so, it cannot go into my main screwdriver drawer.
