First I'd like to thank Don (@d42jeep) for the nine-tool addition to my Craftsman (BE) tool chest. Thanks Don!

I went to one Estate Sale today--twice. They had a pic of a gray Ingersall-Rand tool case and a bunch of hand tools spread out over three tables. I snatched up the I-R box--since it had only a $5 price, I didn't really care what was in it. It turned out there was a good little bit. Peeking inside, the first thing I saw was the heavy open gear ratchet and hoped it would be either a Duro or Indestro. It turned out not. It is good and heavy but has no branding at all. (D-I rats have a flat handle where this one is round) I hoped the tap wrench was Craftsman for the Tap & Die set I picked up a few weeks ago--it's not. Another no-name. I was careful to let the tiny tool roll bake out in the Texas sun before trying to open it. Interesting little set--they all seem to have factory grinding on the service ends, but again, no names. Eight blades from a 12-pack of rusty NOS hacksaw blades that were purchased from Woolco. They closed their doors in 1983--40 years ago. Interestingly, the blades are fastened to the paperboard with litte bolts and nuts.
The sockets are unmarked except for one that has colons on each side of the size : 19-32 : Do those identify it for anyone?
The shiny socket is a Duro-Chrome while a Craftsman offset screw driver, a Japan marked rat tail file and a Kastar 32 blade feeler gage (metric and SAE) rounded out the contents.

I went home and tried to establish what the box was made for. The number on the label, PT 35590, was no help. It seemed likely that a pneumatic drill was the likely tool and wouldn't you know it, I remembered there was an old pneumatic drill on one of the tables. I drove the three miles back to the sale with the box (and receipt!) to see if it was a I-R drill. It wouldn't fit in the box and upon closer inspection it was made by Chicago Pneumatic. As I was putting it back on the table, I noticed a baggie with wood handled nut drivers that turned out to be six Stevens Spintites (pre-Walden). Three of them are round for radio and are labeled Stevens New York. Also in the baggie were the three mushroom handled tools--again no name, but one has a 28 stamped near the blade edge. The only thing I can think of that they might be used for is leather carving. Anyone have a better idea? Anyway, another $5 brought all of them home, too.

I haven't found any tools this summer to speak of, but at least I found a decent Kennedy 620 today. I already have another 620 and a couple of 520s, but this box was in good shape and at a fair price so it came home with me. Plus I had a nice chat with the previous owner.

This one just needs a vacuuming, a little cleaning, and some paste wax. Heck, it even has the key!

Looking good there guys!

Small Habitat haul today.

Craftsman, Palm Grip, P&C, and pliers with a sword logo.

I couldn’t make out the tiny but lengthy name over the sword. Google tells me Damascus brand made in Germany. I figured old European made based on the look and the joint style, however this pair missed the COO stamp.

I like the P&C with JP Danielson grip.

Usually those handles are associated with metal gravers, but those blades are wider than any I’ve seen. Another option might be linoleum carving as well as leather carving. Wood carving could also be an option, but the geometry seems wrong.

With that vinylized pouch and no brandings, my guess is it's probably a late 40's or early 50s knock-off of a much earlier 30's style ignition set (each one of those wrenches is for a peculiar electrical/ignition system - e.g., Autolite, Bosch, Delco, Eisemann, Northeast, Remy, Spiitdorf, Westinghouse, etc) that by 1940 was already starting to be phased out of most OEM offerings in favor of miniaturized DOE wrenches with a range of standard sizes, from 13/64 to a 1/2, on two different angles (usually 60* x 15* or 75* x 15*, etc) that covered the fasteners and adjusters found on all those systems. If you look through Bonney catalogs from the 1930's and 40's you will see a set that looks very similar to that.

EDIT: Very neat find, though. I love the pouch. Looks military. Doubtful though. They are usually well marked. And they went from black leatherette (late 30's and 40's) to OD duck canvas (mid- to late-40's and 50's) with standard ignition wrenches. I suppose it's possible it could be older, with the older style wrenches, but I have never seen anything like that.

What gage metal is that tank?
Wiki says “The original ET is informally known as the Standard Weight Tank (SWT) and was fabricated from 2219 aluminum alloy, a high-strength aluminum-copper alloy used for many aerospace applications.”

Although it looks as if the tanks got progressively lighter and lighter as they used different materials on different versions. Titanium alloy looks to have been the final choice.

Very slim pickings on a rainy Friday in Tahoe. My wife grabbed a couple of books at the first sale and I got some Rock & Roll Hall of Fame DVDs at the second. The last sale had a very few tools and I scored the Irwin screwdriver, the Allen wrench set and little Plumb claw hammer at the third and final sale. IMG_0150.jpeg
I liked that the Plumb hammer still had it’s original handle. IMG_0153.jpegIMG_0154.jpegIMG_0155.jpeg

Saw an add for ''Big Fuel tank'' but it wouldn't fit in my truck so I left it behind, but I figured one of you might want to get it. There was a truck and a boat for sale too, but I'm not a boat guy.

If you bought that and put it in your yard you most likely would run afoul of Palm Coasts code enforcement nazis.

It's painted orange the originals were white they changed to orange for a reason that escapes me at the moment. Here is the answer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_external_tank

So far I haven’t seen any sign of them, but I have seen a house or two that would benefit from a little attention from code enforcement.

And I missed that they didn’t settle on a titanium alloy, it was aluminium-lithium alloy (Al 2195)

Slow day; I had to do some driving but the bait that got me to make the drive wan't what I hoped, so these are the "Also Rans":

Same place, a Zyliss light duty Clamp on vise. These are great for light work and wood working. Very portable, light as its almost all aluminum, but for the screw assy.

Zyless.jpg

The Spatter shield was thrown in with the vise for a total of $10. The Checkered flag is a 3X5 and was $3 at my last planed stop near my home. Several TOOS were visited. but nothing going there.

After I came home I found a late posting Estate sale, and it wasn't bad:

Oil cans are WWII, New (Adjustable) and old (Armstrong) clamps (I passed on some bar clamps earlier, too much $$) Klien and mystery drivers, Wire brush with scraper, the Funnel is Galvanized steel and either very heavy, or I'm used to the aluminum funnels I usually use. bottle of Profane,

Slow weekend here, was not expecting any tool finds, only one of four showed pix, and looked like potential.

Scored the hurricane lamp from a sorta estate sale, will add to the emergency prep stuff, the box of tools was from the one showing pix. Everything was box lots, this was the only one with enough interest to justify the the price.

The cart was originally thought to be a creeper, so getting that will help with our garage sale / garage clean out coming soon.

The Hargrave circle cutter and the no name drill press hold down were the items of interest, the Weldon countersink was a bonus. The Portalign drill press adapter and meat tenderizer / ice breaker, not so much, the horseshoe, no interest at all. The hatchet head is a no visible name, a bit pitted, so that may have eaten the name. Just noticed the big drill bit in the plastic box is tapered down its length.

Off to go sit outside and drink cider at a new venue just opening in town.

On Friday I went out to a barn sale, lot of good stuff, but either nothing I needed or it was all bundled together. There was a WWII era Black and Decker 1/3hp bench grinder that was really tempting, but I don't really need another one, so I passed.

On Saturday, there was nothing too tempting in the distance, so I hit a few sales on my way to breakfast, and then hit a few afterwards. This is the pre-breakfast finds:
53160853655_efec8acfe8_b.jpg
The first stop is what I should have made instead of hte farm sale! Mostly sporting goods, althogh I picked up the Walden ratche, Proto LA driver bit, Snap-on DBE, Billings 11/32" combo, and long screw starter. But it was the 16 empty vintage ammo boxes (.300 Savage, .30-06), Shakespear fly reel in box, and pre-WWII Mossberg scope that are the real finds! Along with the cleaning patches and lock. $15 total. Funny enough, it was a pro-run sale, and he gave me the boxes for free! Next stop was a TOO, where I found the oldest Herbrand DBE I have seen, along with Plomb crows feet, a Craftsman RP (for wifes tool box) and a Stanley chisel for $5. Next was a sale that I had been too before (older woman getting ready to move, slowly clearing things out) where I found the Opinel for a buck. On more stop with some temptiations, but nothing to leave with, and it was off for breakfast. (sorry the pic is blurry, I had massive insomnia last night when I took the pic)

I hit a couple sales after that, all of them coming up with nothing of interest, or interesting things I didn't want to spend the money on.

53160426956_d2c6237c17_b.jpg
But, then I went to a sale from an old picker (or so he says) were I found the Armstrong ratcheting DBE, all 1/2" for another $5. Then off to a sale way out in the hinterlands, across the river. All it said was "mostly shop items" but it was kinda on my way home, so I thought "what the heck" Normally, I strike out at sales like that, but not this one! Nicest people and inside the most beautiful shop. Half for wood work, half for metal, with more natural light than I have seen in years. Just wonderfu, and wonderful what I found there, too: A Stanley no. 55, no. 80 (early) and a Stanly of England spoke shave, which I bought mostly to bring he total up to $10. After that, I found my self passing by the monthly swap meet that Provicial hits, and they have an earlybird, so I figured "what the heck" and hit that up. I don't think my timing was great there, as most stuff was already covered and waiting for today, but I did manage to score the Proto ignition set. And I was planning to go back this AM, but things aren't working out for that. Oh, well.

THAT is jealousy-inducing. Been hoping to run into one for years now.
If you were closer we could work something out - I have been consolidating at work and have more than "I need" in the map cabinet department......

I just rolled through a garage sale advertising tools. It was all woodworking tools which does not interest me. However, going through his craftsman roller, I found this interesting small pair of 90° bent nose needle, nose pliers for $1.
They're made by Omega out of Italy. Never heard of them but it's a nice pair and they cleaned up well. 16937482343041671367018009373628.jpg1693748407149844116695590825859.jpg16937484200697385508531977358174.jpg

Haven't found anything good in awhile. Picked both these up this morning for $20 just for the hell of it.

Oh, my! I've been trying to score a map cabinet for decades and somehow they always elude me. What a score! I don't think I've ever seen a wooden one - any chance you could tell us more about those?

Wow, great score. That purchase price won’t cover the replacement screws which hold the far side on. You do know that comes off, right? The Stanley version goes for stupid high $, the MF is just as good, and usually just high $.

Slim picking at the flea market this morning. Although I did find two drivers, one a Proto and the other a Challenger that are not surprisingly nearly identical.

That is definitely a great score! He's got at least one of the screws, though - isn't it visible behind the knob in the 1st picture?

I went to the flea market this morning. bmw left me some crumbs, but I haven't taken photos of them yet.

I took a picture of this Weatherhead cabinet that has a nice patina. I overheard the seller quote a price to a lady who looked like an antique shop owner. Asking price was $175.00!!!!!

I did a quick eBay check and saw some sold for $130 ish. I was kinda surprised by that.

Pexto, yes it has both screws.

This is the first one of these I’ve seen in the wild.

That was a hypothetical thought, it seemed they were both present, just by how it fit.
