I’m sure some discerning volare collector will be there will be enamored with them for sure! What are are doing with the spares/singles? eBay?
I'm going through the whole stash, one at a time. The ones that appear to have some value over about $40 are going up on eBay. The rest are going into storage for my Christmas decoration idea for next year. IDeally, I'd like t have about 140 caps for the decoration, and to have sold the rest to be net zero on the acquisition costs of all the hubcaps (currently about $450).

Often called a boiler drill,

The drilling pillar on the next page can be used to convert to a drill press of sorts.

Figured I better get this in before the year runs out! I went north across the border to pick up a Beach roller cabinet and combine a family visit up there. The seller advertised “and assorted tools” with grainy pictures of some pretty rusty, full buckets.

The toolbox was already a fair price especially with the exchange rate, so I was pretty chagrined to see all that was hiding in there. Although some was rusted and abused, there are a lot of great surprises!

There’s some Gray Canada, Italian and German pliers, Stanley brace, Proto 1-1/2” wrench, vintage Husky USA breaker and extension, but the real heart is the Snap-on haul along with an early Cheney hammer and Swedish Hults Bruk hatchet.

Here’s an S831 flex ratchet that cleaned up great and runs smooth, plus two 24” extensions and old hard handle screwdrivers.

Both screwdrivers and the 3/8” extension are marked Snap-on Canada, which is cool.

The hatchet will need some work but the hammer is in surprisingly good shape!

A couple of fun other Canadian bits - a Canada stamped Craftsman Robertson drive and a sweet little fixed blade utility knife:

Definitely came out ahead on this one, happy New Year’s everyone and a joyful 2024!

Last little find for me on the year. Wasn't expecting much, so I wasn't disappointed.

Top to bottom:
Duro Chrome 83 -- 1/4" ignition
Indestro Super 892 -- 13/64 & 15/64 ignition
Long C CM Vanadium DOE I thought I needed for my Crackle Blue AC 4375 chest
Proto LA Pebble DOE, well marked on the back by PO ED MAYER
Wood Handle Screwdriver -- Ferrule stamped NON SKID No.5, & Patent No. 1,738,405. (Granted 3 Dec 1929; Manufactured by Bridgeport Hardware Manufacturing Co.) It still has some of the non-skid groves on the tip.

**Speaking of trophies- you may have noticed that I said trophies but so far have only shown one trophy. Yup that's right, there is one more that hasn't been unveiled yet. It is for the member who gets the most "*****" of the year. Today is the last day of ***** to be counted and tomorrow I will announce the winner. Believe it or not there is actually a pretty close race between 4 or 5 of our members. Yes alot of them were included in the POTY ballot but not all of them. Stay tuned for that trophy unveiling :). **
Can you post **** number totals? 😂

PotY 2 Nice Find.jpg

In twelve or so years I have never been fortunate enough to run into one in the wild and I don't recall seeing one on the BHM thread, either. FYSA, there are some beautiful ads introducing it in the 1930 BHM catalog, on pages X and XI of a 4-page insert, between pages 40 and 41. Please post in the BHM thread and if you have trouble finding the ads, I will follow up tomorrow when I return home to my references.

Well done! Closing out the year with a find of truly uncommon proliferation, style and quality!

Wow, I am actually speechless.

Thanks, once again, everybody! I do just want to say that picking through the tiny bits, digging through old boxes and drawers, is one of my favorite things. I do it quite happily, much to my long suffering wife's chagrin.

So, in the immortal words of my wife "I found a dead rat in the basement!"

"It is just a mouse, keep digging."

Congrats. Well deserved. You're not only a good picker, but a good friend to us fellow pickers.

...and in regards to dead vermin, ooof it's the stink that holds me back from going all away to the back -- that and a bit of arachnophobia.

Those combos look sk made to me. They look very similar to craftsman professional/ sk combos so I have a feeling that who made them?
Hmmmm....I think you are right.
The SK similarity didn't register with me until you mentioned it

I initially thought those Napa combos were in the Danaher family

Here's a 90's CMan Professional and an SK combo

*** This just in....We have a winner for "suckiest" member of the year for 2023. In a finish that would make a great Hollywood movie, we have a final winner. 2 members where very nearly neck and neck yesterday, 3Bay and Bmwrd0 with total amount of ***** bestowed on them by other members for their picking efforts very closely matched. With Bmw's cross state venture yesterday with his assemblage of picks and the tool box filed with dross and some good items, he gained a few extra ***** yesterday. As in he literally beat 3Bay by 3 ***** total. 3Bay finished the year with 42 ***** and Bmw with 45 ***** total. Folks this goes to show that it is super important to participate in these threads, both by voting and also by posting finds and acquisitions! Not to get all movie quotie on you but to quote Dominic Toretto from Fast and the Furious- "winnings winning, doesn't matter if it's by and inch or a mile". Bmw pulled ahead at the last moment by digging deep and finding some untapped energy that propelled him forward. I'm not sure if this has happened before but I can't imagine it's very common that a member wins 2 awards in the same year. I'll be giving this to him in person as well when I see him soon!

So you might be wondering what this other trophy is? Well it combines both my sense of humor as well as my garage pursuits into another "minimalist" appearing trophy. It is a Ridgid shop vacuum nozzle painted in a rustoleum color very similar to craftsman power bronze that I used on my drill press base. I thought the vacuum nozzle was funny because vacuums do "****". Also another humerous function of that nozzle is that it has a light built into it. Bmw can use this when he is picking in those dark/dank garages and basements looking in those otherwise unexplored nooks and crannies we mentioned yesterday when he won POTY.

Congrats, @bmwrd0 and @3bay. Those are some seriously impressive numbers.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Mike
