I have been quite busy lately, and haven't been seeking sales. I did accompany my wife to the local charity thrift store, and found all this for $2.50:

H2O Store.jpg
Indestro 3721 Stubby flat screwdriver
Milwaukee Tool & Forge DOE 5/16 SAE x 3/8 SAE
Proto LA 1224 Combo 3/4
Armstrong DOE 725-A 7/16 x 9/16
Armaloy 1165 Combo 11/16

Saturday I passed by the local second-hand store, and stopped to check the inventory. He sometimes has interesting items, and this time was pretty good for $2.00:
Dallas Second Hand.jpg
Blackhawk 152 drain plug wrench. Square shank, so probably early.
Billings 1570 SPECIAL angle engineer's open end 1-1/8
Blue Point tappet DOE TA-2022 5/8 x 11/16 electropen "USN 051"
Durochrome G1025 DOE 1/2 x 19/32 WWII Jeep tool-kit size
P&C 2728 Combo 7/8
P&C 2720 Combo 5/8
Powr-Kraft combo 1/2 (Barcalo scoop)
DOE SAM L BINGHAM'S SON MFG. Co. "PRINTERS ROLLERS"

Also posting a small drill press vise that was part of an estate I helped sell, but was left behind. Yankee No. 991 "North Bros. MFG CO Phila. PA USA" 1-1/2" wide, 7/8" deep, 1-1/2" jaw opening.

Because dammit I did get to visit the ReStore: toolbox, C-clamp (mostly), and radio chassis punch definitely-not-new-in-box, $1 each.
ReStore-2026-03.jpg
I will look up the (D)AYTON logo on the clamp and options for replacing the pad on the jaw later.

The toolbox is in surprisingly good shape on the inside.
toolbox-int.jpg

The radio chassis punch box is just neat. I may have seen something like the metal brackets on the corners before, but I definitely don't own anything like it. (The punch itself, however, is going to need a bath and a scrub.)
greenlee-2.jpggreenlee-1.jpg

Also a flaring tool from the Superior Tool Co, which I may have picked up as a reminder that I have some notes on the company and need to write them up. (I suspect that the Canadian Tire stock number might do more to help me narrow down the date than anything else.)

Estate sale ($10): Esco slate cutter.

Back from visiting my daughter whose doing a study abroad in Galway, Ireland. Picked up this Mabo supermatic no. 118 tape measure from the Marché aux Puces de la Porte de Vanves in Paris. Very big/cool flea market.
Was watching Irish public TV with the daughter and stumbled onto the sport of hurling. The bat is made from ash. I was walking down the street in Galway with it and some guy kiddingly said, "I don't want no problems (thick irish accent). An awesome sport, I'd say its like combination of rugby and hockey.

Slim pickings in beautiful downtown Sequim this week, but I did find a couple more treasures:

new arrivals 031926.jpg
"Great Neck" and "Yamaha" slip-joint pliers. New-in-the-box '69 GTX model kit. The gold doo-dads are zipper pulls from a trashed purse.
The real find this week was this objet d'art - an excellent example of why "hideosity" is part of the English lexicon:
Tinkerbell snowglobe 032026.jpg
Battery-operated musical Tinkerbell snowglobe with clock! Unfortunately the little motor that stirs the glitter around isn't working, and I cannot get it to play "When You Wish Upon a Star", but its unapologetic ugliness more than makes up for malfunctioning features.
Hey, the clock part works just dandy!
I have no doubt at all it will become a favorite in baby sister's snowglobe collection.

BTW: that place in Sequim still has a fair assortment of those model kits. Half off sticker price. The GTX kit was $15.00. Still in the original shrink-wrap. He's got maybe a dozen or so left: all Detroit muscle cars. If you're interested in something let me know I'll see if he's got one. I remember there were a couple early "Camaro" kits and I think there was an AMX kit. No Pontiacs. Go figure.

Made a delivery yesterday to a shop that I've only been to a few times. My customer had a very eccentric customer of his there, and they were talking aircraft. Somehow my customer and I got to talking tools. I told him how I like tools, and next thing I know he's telling me about some tools he acquired in the 90's from a widow of an aircraft mechanic and offering to let me look through this tool box of spare wrenches.

He handed me a cardboard box and told me to take a bunch because I'm the only person to ever express any interest. He probably had 100 wrenches occupying 3 drawers of a nice roll cab, but I only took a few because I didn't want to go crazy. It felt a bit awkward, I should have just made an offer to buy the whole lot. He tossed a couple in the box like the Easco, newer Craftsman spline, and Whitworth Dowidat which I have to say is a neat one.

Anyway, he's a nice guy. Infrequent customer, no idea when I'll be there again but maybe I'll offer to buy them next time.

Fairmount and Bonney angle, E-S Tools. I liked the little Vim USA open end.

Estate sale ($80): Adlake car light (c. 1915); Auto Meter speedometer 3994 (nib), Tachometer 3903 (nib); 1967-68 Ford Mustang gauge cluster; Vornado fan; 2 boxes Coghlans water proof matches; Mo(ca)ra pukko knife; Craftsman pairing knife; 4" Henckels pairing knife; Metro 330 lbs bathroom scale; Ott-Lite Mag25 light w/ magnifier.

Had a heck of a time running down the Adlake lamp, but there's a forum for everything and once the railroad folks denied ownership, I'm now working the Hupmobile people. Nice older Mora knife. Never seen the Mo(ca)ra logo and who'd of thought craftsman pairing knife. 330 lbs bathroom scale - a lot of person.

Interesting.
"ES Tool" (for whom I have zero information) was a government contract supplier.
So far, I've identified their sources as S-K, Meteor, and Duro-Indestro - those open-ends are definitely Duro/Indestro made.

@ctuai - "Adlake" was "Adams and Westlake":
Adams & Westlake / Adams & Westlake Co., 320 W. Ohio St., (319 W. Ontario St.), Chicago, IL / "Adlake" / est. 1857 / patent 2040482 May 12 1936 Andrew T. Hagerty / https://www.madeinchicagomuseum.com/single-post/adams-and-westlake/ / see also Crerar Adams /

What I’m seeing, someone on Reddit had said E-S is Emporium Specialties of Austin, PA, where they worked. He said the owner was Marvin Dupris. Come to find out Marvin M. Deupree (as it’s spelled) was the manager for 25 yrs, and died in 2012. Emporium Specialties Co. Inc. has a website, but no examples of their products. Seems they work with metals and a variety of products.

Some of those NSN gov. parts sites do in fact list Emporium Speciaties Co. as a wrench suppliers.

I had a pretty good morning today. I saw an add for this estate sale last week and the pictures showed a bunch of tools and a machinist box. It was only 15 mins from me so I went early to hopefully get a good spot in line. It started at 9 and I got there at 8 and looks like I’m the only person there. Go to the door to see if there was a sign up sheet, nothing. I knocked on the door and the lady says come on in. I had the whole place to myself it was great. The box is a Kwality Kases leatherette. Never heard of them but it seems well made. So here’s what I got for $60 I will have some more pics of the contents tomorrow .

Leatherette loaded with stuff
Mac tight clearance hack saw
Herbrand J-10 3/8 ratchet
Craftsman BE 1/2” drive 1-1/8 socket
NOS SK 3/4 drive 1-1/16 socket
1/4” box with craftsman BE, snap on and misc sockets and BE extensions
Crusty bayonet no markings other than 250 on the scale
Collin’s axe head

IMG_7124.jpegIMG_7127.jpegIMG_7128.jpegIMG_7130.jpegIMG_7126.jpegIMG_7125.jpegIMG_7129.jpeg

After then I went to a guy I’ve bought from before that has some nice stuff from market place. $70 with him. The snap on ratcheting driver was a different market place deal for $10

Armstrong 1/2” metric 6 point socket set 10-24mm
Proto punch set
4” proto adjustable
Craftsman BE 3/8 extension
Lawson 1-60 drill bit set like new. The ones flipped over are the used ones, from what he said
Supertanium 2 tap and drill index
Little vise grip 4LW
Snap on ratcheting screw driver

Trying to swear off pipe wrenches but this was too cool to pass - a ratcheting pipe wrench; the ratchet also closes the jaws:

B2-ratcheting-pipe-wrench.jpg

And a Stanley 746 clamp-on machinist vise for $10 ; 3" jaws; Now my largest of this series -I need to get some rust off the top of the slide to see if its the Sweetheart era:

Random haul today from a very disorganized estate sale where all the people running it seemed openly hostile towards each other and inclined to complain to me about what a mess the sale was. Lots of good stuff there, but all the tools were buried under other junk. The 1/2" ratchet is a Snap-On 71N, which works smoothly but is missing a small faceplate screw that I'm hoping I can match to the one that's still there. The 3/8 drill is Craftsman "industrial rated," missing a chuck key but I'm sure I'll find one for it. The other stuff is kind random, although the tiny crescent wrench is, in fact, Crescent. I figure the wood tray and the metal box will be good for just containing project parts, and you just never know when you might need a wooden mallet...

Pretty good chance keys are available, if you hunt hard enough. I can't read the details on the lock face. Also look for a key number on the side or lower hasp. I'm thinking it's an Eagle Lock.

I didn’t expect to be going back to sales this soon but my copilot is doing better with her walking boot and she was happy to get out of the house. The sale was advertised as a tool sale in the parking lot of a bike shop in El Sobrante, CA. There was a ton of tools, mostly sockets and they generally had some surface rust but nothing evaporust wouldn’t clean up. I weeded through hundreds of sockets from the far east, coming away with lots of Craftsman and S-K. I took a final look around the sale and saw a new looking 10“ DeWalt compound miter saw. I wasn’t really in the market for one but I inquired about the price and suddenly I became much more interested. We came home with these items. IMG_7414.jpeg
Mostly S-K and Craftsman sockets,IMG_7413.jpeg
Craftsman fractional above and metric below.IMG_7418.jpeg
3/4” drive Wright socket.IMG_7420.jpeg
Wright made 1/2” drive Powr-Kraft socket.IMG_7421.jpegDeWalt saw pictures. IMG_7416.jpegIMG_7417.jpeg
On the way home we stopped by a yard sale. I found a Yankee looking but unmarked spiral screwdriver and some Harrold clone pliers. IMG_7427.jpegIMG_7428.jpeg

Thanks for the info alinc100! I couldn’t find anything on it. I’m hoping I find the key when I go through it today. I have only checked out the big stuff. The lock is indeed an Eagle.

A quick early morning trip across the village to the first local car boot sale of the year got me these pieces.

1774180861194.jpeg

Saltus Germany 16mm combo. No signs of use, not surprising for a 16mm.
Britool 12x13mm DBE.
Snap-on 3/8" drive 6mm hex bit.
Very nice Starrett scriber with reversable tip.
Unbranded #1 pozi screwdriver.
Toshiba and Seco inserts.
Nine assorted Torx flag style drivers. T7, T8, T10 & T15 and branded Sandvik Germany, Kennametal Switzerland, Mitsubishi, Hertal and Seco Norway. All these manufacturers make metal cutting machine tooling and these drivers were probably supplied with tooling.

£5.50 for all of the above. Quite pleased.

Good spot I hadn't even noticed that. seems counter intuitive, and I don't think the handle can be reversed? its not switchblade for "rotation" otherwise.

I'll get to checking that today maybe. (family get together yesterday...)

Please do not count this towards 2026 - I acquired this in 2025. It just took me forever to clean the sockets (I still have a small set which I did not clean). Since I would not be able to get to it for a little and it's been sitting for a while, I decided to post what I have.

The first 3 pictures is what I got when I bought it. I bought from this person before. However, this time when I came to look through what he had to sell (he is a reseller), he suddenly told me that he did not have time for me to go through his tools (after asking me to come after work instead of the weekend as we planned. He showed me the new try which he just bought and was not sure if he wanted to deal with cleaning it.PUSept13_1.JPGPUSept13_2.JPGPUSept13_3.JPG

$15.81 including gas

Please see the list and the images in the post below (after cleaning almost everything. Sorry, vintage SO are not included - did not make a list...)

... Just noticed that the image of SO sockets was upside down - added it again...

The vintage (20s-30s) SO sockets are not included in this list. There was one more vintage set on top of a hehagonal L-drive, but I did not clean it up yet...

... Do not ask how long it took to clean this - lost motivation multiple times. I guess sometimes I just can not leave the tools which could end up in trash behind...

I came across this posting today, $20 for a bunch of old tools and they come in a box, I’m in!

I’m hoping someone else knows more than me about this stuff. After separating out all the junk tools, etc what I was left with was a bunch of 3/4”, 1/2”, and 3/8” drive Bonney tools as well as some kool USA tools of other brands. Super old Mac wrenches made pre chrome plating. Good size lot of craftsman with a 1/4” rhft I’ve been looking for.

As far as the tool box itself it’s pretty old, I think it might have been original to the Bonney set, but someone would know more than me.

I just got back from a trip to the bay area to see my cousin, an old friend, and to meet D42jeep and his lovely co-pilot. Wonderful people, and if you get the chance to say hi to them I greatly encourage it. I also got the chance to go to three of my favorite swap meets, two of which are in Sacramento are dying on the vine, so to speak. But the third, in Redding, is going great. Also hit one of my favorite used bookstores in that area.

From the formerly great Denio's outside Sac, Blue Point, Herbrand, and Cornwell wrenches, and a unknown thing-a-ma-jig that I thought was a screw starter.

But, from the Redding swap, which is very small and out in a field, two Plomb line wrenches, a Starrett machinists level and Lufkin dial indicator kit. I also picked up the book on tool collecting shown below at that swap

while the manual, which matches an inheritance from my father, and the travel guide to the South Pacific from the twenties, came from the used bookshop.
A good trip all in all.
