Looking good man. You live real close to my college.
Spent a few hours smoothing the drywall mud on one side, then adding a second skim coat. I do not plan on much sanding. Hey, its a garage!
I also rewired my ceiling lights to plugs and added two LOA lights. Makes a HUGE difference over two 75 watt bulbs, and leaves room for at least two more ceiling lights. I might later add up to 4 more!

Screwed them directly to the ceiling beams.
Tomorrow I clean up the new mud and put on the first coat of primer!

Thanks for the tip on the lights, figured I'd come over here and bother you with some questions
Can you elaborate more on how you converted these?
It's been years since I've dealt with house wiring so I could use a refresher on what connections go where on the new fixture. What is the new fixture called (anything special/different than a standard household 110V receptacle)? Is that a round box that fits the shape of the old bulb fixture, that houses the new outlet?
Interesting build and great to see a bike garage on here. Only change I would make would be the bikes would be HD but hey to each his / her own.
Awesome build!!! I am going to tear down my garage soon, I swear!
What NII equipment do you work with? I saw some signs in one of your photos.
Jim,
just found your thread, outstanding job you have done with what you have to work with... I enjoy seeing some of these "mega structures" but, for me anyway, seeing someone take a smaller shop and utilizing the space, that just does it for me.
That drive-thru is a monster! I operate X-ray and Gamma equipment for the same employer. Smith HCV, VACIS, Rapiscan Eagles, you name it.
I knew I'd seen this somewhere! Great build, really admire the progress and your attention to detail with the build diary posts. You should acquire the lot across the street and construct a garage mahal. I think you did a lot up front in an otherwise tight spot on a busy street. the garage matches the house nicely, too. Kudos.

Umm, did you take those pictures?![]()
well, now it just seems creepy... not a stalker, just an enthusiast who happens to also be an Alexandria neighbor. his place is bright yellow on a main road i travel every day. there's an empty lot, i wasn't hiding in the bushes. promise neither jim nor anyone else here is going to wake up to anything weird from me.

Fair enough. I'll admit my creep-o-meter spiked for a second when I saw your post, but that's probably just due to my raging paranoia.![]()

Jim, your thread accomplished something rare...I just read the whole thing. Well, not "everything" but I did go through every page.
Nice work.![]()

Did the sewer repair mess up any of that nice brick paver work? all that dirt and gravel you had placed there only to have it so rudely dug up... thanks for being cool about it - I did refrain from knocking![]()

So, will Cox Fiber be paying for the repair?
I really like what you've done with the place, some great improvments from Day1. I plan on 'borrowing' a fair bit of your ideas.
That said, I say this the other day and immediately thought of your porch. I think something similar would compliment your tile and brickwork very well.
It's number 14 on the list: HERE

Love the build. This thread has definitely pushed me over to the VCT camp. Still have that source for the tiles? I am a little southwest of you over in Annandale.
