last year i sold my house and moved in with my girlfriend. our plan is to live here for another year while we build our new house.
our present house had only a small garage on a 50' lot. i need a garage badly, so we decided to build a 20 by 24 with 10' walls on a tight budget. because we are only here temporarily we didn't want to dump too much into it.
here is a pic of the original 16x14 garage...
this old garage was still in usable shape, so we put an ad in the local paper saying "usable garage for sale, must be dismantled and moved $1", we had about 50 calls, it was gone withing a couple days and we didn't have to do any of the work
we poured a 4' thick slab with a club footing. my original plan was to use in floor heating and install a pit, however, i really didn't want to spend the extra money and didn't want the hassle of trying to sell the house with an illegal pit in the garage floor.
we framed the garage with 2x4 walls (10') and 4/12 trusses to match the roof on the house...
in keeping with our budget, we bought damaged drywall from the lumber yard, it saves us a lot of cash. a little more work to mud, but worth the savings. we flip several houses a year, so the lumber yard stock piles damaged materials for us all the time.
note the short pieces of drywall, damaged ends cut off...
even the garage door was slightly damaged, i think i paid about $300 only for it
