rmmiller, I see what you mean. I was thinking of the tip out windows like were above doors in the older houses..
Nice job and pictures!
Looks like you could unbolt the upper shock mount for more room if needed as well.

. I've also changed some of the wiring for the air compressor.. Hopefully when it warms up a little I'll get some more done.Kind of cold working out there right now isn't it? Nice job on the ceiling. Keep posting. Billy
Hey, another Mustang guy!
Like what you are doing with the garage, reminds be of my fathers old garage.
Interesting what you are doing in the rafters...has to be better than the original "value" engineering.
So are you a carpenter or engineer?
Or, just handy understanding snow loads and winging it like I often do?
Sure looks like a future lift is in the plans.
I can see a lot of Mustang wall art in your future!
Well the rafters are in and done!!!! I have almost all the walls insulated.. I know it's been awhile but I thought it would be good to update ya'll.. I've added a garage wall vac. Of course for some reason I don't have pictures. I've also changed some of the wiring for the air compressor.. Hopefully when it warms up a little I'll get some more done.

Sorry it's been so long to update..
Thanks for following along.

Sorry no I'm north of Milwaukee. .You are in southeast Wisconson, are you familiar with Little Limestone in Janesville?
Thank youGreat work! Looking forward to seeing it with wall finishings!
That ceiling height improvement is definitely a good idea. GJ!!
They sure made nice garage floors in 1950!! Did you have that re-done or was it already re-done?
Nope no engineer went to many sites did some numbers. I basically raised the bottom rafter ties 1/3 of the total roof height and put them on every rafter.. there were only 5 total ties when I started.. This is what I did I can't say what's right for your situation.. It never hurts to consult a professional. This is awesome. Did you have an engineer help with calculating loads? I have a garage with a 25' span side to side, and the joists are very low, maybe 7'. I want to raise them up but everyone has told me that doing so would compromise the roof strength. Have any resources on doing this?
Thanks!
Insulation??? Nice space, nice work.

. Oh well good reason to take the truck...

That's a pretty good size garage RW, even if a little tight for the f truck. Going to be cool once you get the lift in. Great work on the ceiling height increase, a lot of work in that job.
Is the LM8500 still working well now it's been in 3 years ? I still have one of them on my list to replace the horrible chain driven thing I have currently.
Cheers GB![]()
No real complaints. I will say the range for the remote in the car is a little shorter and it's a bit slower up and down than the chain thing I had. Way way quieter and seems smoother. I do need to replace the #2 hinges on my door as they have a small tear in them, I'm guessing the installer didn't set them right. Adding the door insulation didn't phase it ethier (I didn't adjust the springs)! Only thing that could be loud is the auto lock you mount on the rail. It pops out once the door is down to lock it. Its critical to drill the hole in the right spot and have the pin pop out into the opening. Kind of like how a manual lock works. Mines not real loud at all. I can take a pic if you want
. Others complained of the wireless light not working. I've had no trouble with it. I used some bright LEDs too.
Due you gave the ceiling done yet?
That will give you the most help for keeping it warmer.
Good work so far on it!
Then I think white steel panel's. They are light compared to drywall or osb. Think the walls will be osb with a steel wainscot. White upper, black stripe at the outlets and dark gray lower. Yea, I need to get some ambition to get it insulated. Then I think white steel panel's. They are light compared to drywall or osb. Think the walls will be osb with a steel wainscot. Thanks for stopping by!!
Love the new ceiling joists.
I can't quite tell, are your roof rafters 2x6's? I'm looking to do something similar in my garage, but my roof only has 2x4's.
