Nice job and pictures!
Looks like you could unbolt the upper shock mount for more room if needed as well.

Exactly what I was thinking and I would have had the studs and nuts been messed up. But they came out so easy it was kinda scary.

Thanks for following along..
See y'all on the next round!!

Good looking garage and a nice improvement on the electrical. I think I pulled about 5 lbs of nails from the walls of my garage when I cleared it out. That Clark sign is awesome. There was a Clark station in my neighborhood growing up, had the best penny candy bins around. Good luck with the progress.

Thank you Olinrj. I was lucky to get the working light fixture from a friend when Clark changed their signs years ago. I have 2 of the big square signs buried in my dads barn no light fixture behind tho.. I've kinda stalled on the work. I'm saving money and looking at the ceiling changes I need to make for a lift to work.

Well the rafters are in and done!!!! I have almost all the walls insulated.. I know it's been awhile but I thought it would be good to update ya'll.. I've added a garage wall vac. Of course for some reason I don't have pictures :willy_nil. I've also changed some of the wiring for the air compressor.. Hopefully when it warms up a little I'll get some more done.

Hey, another Mustang guy!
Like what you are doing with the garage, reminds be of my fathers old garage.
Interesting what you are doing in the rafters...has to be better than the original "value" engineering.
So are you a carpenter or engineer?
Or, just handy understanding snow loads and winging it like I often do?
Sure looks like a future lift is in the plans.
I can see a lot of Mustang wall art in your future!

Kind of cold working out there right now isn't it? Nice job on the ceiling. Keep posting. Billy

HAHA yea, I had finished the rafters this time last year. I just never got to posting it :( . It was cold but doing it alone I found it got warm (to me at least) pretty quick!! During the fall my GF and I put up the insulation.. A few weeks ago during a warm spell we put up the Garage vac.. Unfortunately I'll have to take down everything on the walls once I figure out what type of wall to use..

Thanks for your interest.. I really want to keep this going to help motivate me to start moving on this again.

Yep I love my little stang its my DD. I'm more of a Ford fan than just the Mustangs.. But for a 3.7 v6 6spd it moves pretty good. I'm Happy!

I choose B) Just handy understanding snow loads and winging it. I've beefed up the lower rafters and there is much more support than there was before. added upper rafter ties too. We had one heavy snow this year no deflection that I could see. I'm within the standard specs of a raised rafter tie setup with this roof pitch as well.

Yep I want a lift for both the truck and the Stang.. I know I wont get full height on the truck but hey thats better than nothing..

This is awesome. Did you have an engineer help with calculating loads? I have a garage with a 25' span side to side, and the joists are very low, maybe 7'. I want to raise them up but everyone has told me that doing so would compromise the roof strength. Have any resources on doing this?

Thanks!

They sure made nice garage floors in 1950!! Did you have that re-done or was it already re-done?

You are in southeast Wisconson, are you familiar with Little Limestone in Janesville?
Sorry no I'm north of Milwaukee. .

Great work! Looking forward to seeing it with wall finishings!
Thank you

That ceiling height improvement is definitely a good idea. GJ!!

Yep it really is nice..

The garage floor and apron were done by the previews owners..

Nope no engineer went to many sites did some numbers. I basically raised the bottom rafter ties 1/3 of the total roof height and put them on every rafter.. there were only 5 total ties when I started.. This is what I did I can't say what's right for your situation.. It never hurts to consult a professional.

Thank you all.

Insulation??? Nice space, nice work.

Sent from my QTAQZ3 using Tapatalk

Yep next I need to put some form of wall material up.. I'm thinking metal for the ceiling. After I put insulation up there too.. I need to make an acesses hole as well. Haven't quite figured that out yet tho.

You can see I've hung and placed alot of the equipment in my garage even though I don't have the walls done. I'm trying to figure out if this is where I want everything. I can't wait until next week I have 5days of vacation. Woo hoo...

Snow tomarow figures after I swaped my tires out:willy_nil . Oh well good reason to take the truck...

It's been awhile since my last post. Not to much has changed unfortunately. I've rearranged some. And may do some more changes. I think I need to do the timing chains on the truck. 204000+ miles on it chain slap on startup after it sits awhile. Getting pretty rusty too and I'm no body guy.

Took care of some corosion on the mustangs hood. Haven't finished that ethier. It's got paint but needs to be sanded and another coat or two. Then clear.. Ah well. I'll take a few pics when I can.. Thanks for visiting.

Well it's a picture haha. This is the left side of the garage looking in from the garage door. The computer in the back corner is a win 10 mini computer with a used touch screen I bought cheap. I had a raspberry pi/kodi connected to it but I never could get the screen to calibrate correctly.

That's a Wen bench grinder works ok variable speed.

Husky 52" tool box. Husky shelf too. Ahh for black Friday.

I built that bench myself as well. 8ft long 30" deep top 18" shelf on the bottom. Where my little mig sits. I need a vice..

The unlit Clark sign I think I'm going to try some leds as I don't like the look of the ballast seems to have leaked:wtf:

This is my backup assistant, tho I don't need it with the car so much. I built this with an arduino nano, a relay setup, and a distance sensor. As I back up the light goes green, then yellow, and finally red. It actually works pretty good. A better sensor for distance would be nice but I'm cheap.

Thanks for stopping in!!

That's a pretty good size garage RW, even if a little tight for the f truck. Going to be cool once you get the lift in. Great work on the ceiling height increase, a lot of work in that job.

Is the LM8500 still working well now it's been in 3 years ? I still have one of them on my list to replace the horrible chain driven thing I have currently.

Cheers GB:beer2:

LM8500 is still working great. :bounce: No real complaints. I will say the range for the remote in the car is a little shorter and it's a bit slower up and down than the chain thing I had. Way way quieter and seems smoother. I do need to replace the #2 hinges on my door as they have a small tear in them, I'm guessing the installer didn't set them right. Adding the door insulation didn't phase it ethier (I didn't adjust the springs)! Only thing that could be loud is the auto lock you mount on the rail. It pops out once the door is down to lock it. Its critical to drill the hole in the right spot and have the pin pop out into the opening. Kind of like how a manual lock works. Mines not real loud at all. I can take a pic if you want  . Others complained of the wireless light not working. I've had no trouble with it. I used some bright LEDs too.

Due you gave the ceiling done yet?

That will give you the most help for keeping it warmer.

Good work so far on it!

Yea, I need to get some ambition to get it insulated.:lol_hitti Then I think white steel panel's. They are light compared to drywall or osb. Think the walls will be osb with a steel wainscot. White upper, black stripe at the outlets and dark gray lower.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Short term solution: Get some plastic drop cloth, and staple it to the rafters. Basically seal off the upper part of the garage. Did this at a buddy's place, OMG, such a huge difference to heat that sucker.

Glad to see the update. Go for the metal ceiling since it’s maintnence free after you install it. No paint, caulk, gaps or anything else. Wished I had done that instead of bead board on my garage rear porch.

Love the new ceiling joists.

I can't quite tell, are your roof rafters 2x6's? I'm looking to do something similar in my garage, but my roof only has 2x4's.

It's been a few months, any updates?

BTW, I really like your setup. I am going forward with purchasing a property with a 22x22 garage in the Racine area of SE WI, for my Crown Vic and my pickup.

Do you find the space tight? It seems like you get by okay, but it does look a lot easier to wheel one out when working on the other.
