Not much progress today the contractor came by today and put the sheating and the AZEK rake boards on the two gable ends that face forward. Now when he lifts them they just need vinyl siding. He also started the Tyvek.

Tyvek006.jpg

The one that has the full coverage is the front of the garage the other one is for the second peak it goes over the porch and garage.

About 1/2 an hour ago the inspector drove by and checked out mt temp power pole and called the Electrician and said it was a go. My contractor said he got a call from the electrician and he told him National Grid called and said they had time to do it tomorrow morning.:beer: We had a tentative day for Friday and I thought that was good timing. I can't believe I'm this lucky to get it done this fast.
Boy was I wrong when I said not much progress today. lol

Congrates!!

Yeah, it is MUCH easier to do as much as you can while it is on the ground, that way you don't have to do so much in the air.

Looking good!!

Well I thought it was going to be a lost day but it turned out great. The electrician got to my house at 8:30 he and I started moving my cable and telephone. Then he ran the feed line to from the temp power pole to the old meter box. He removed almost all the clamps holding the old service from the house. The power company showed up at 9 am and was done by 9:30 the eletrician made the last connection by 10 and he was done. At about 1:30 greg showed up and brought his lift so he can place the trusses. He put staging along the side walls and went up and checked the walls for straightness. He did all the marking for the trusses. Tomorrow he will start puting them up. Here are a couple of pictures.

Wayne,
It's looking really nice! I like your project as it's on a smaller scale. Not everyone has the space for larger shop. You give me hope...

scheu I know what you mean. I saw one shop that was bigger than my property is. I waited a long time to get this one so keep the faith it will come.

Wayne, it is looking good man. Thank you for taking picture of them loading up the trusses...I was at work and missed the whole thing with my project so lived it through your pictures. Very cool Wayne, I like the roofline a lot.

scheu, X2 on Wayne's comments. Hang in there and keep moving forward. I've waited 16 years, just since living here, and it's finally becoming a reality. It's worth waiting for.

Thanks guys
scheu No one wants to see some updates than me. I wish I had something to post. They couldn't work Thursdy and Friday because of heavy rain. It was supposed to clear out Saturday, but that never happened. Now we have a storm backing in from the ocean and the tropical storm that was Tomas is going to join in with it and give us rain and showers until Wednesday. We actually had Sleet and some snow from it last night. We may end up with a couple of inches of rain. I hope the're wrong and it clears sooner. Thanks for asking.

Please don't make me think of that game again #$^*(@!
My contractor called at 11 thismorning and told me he had a roofing contractor that he works with coming by today to do the house roof while he got the garage roof ready so they could all be done in one day but this storm ruined that. It would have been a nice surprise because I didn't know he was brining help to get it done today.

It's a tough one Wayne; we can't do much about weather or other delays that arise...they just do and we have to push through and see what tomorrow brings. Like theroyz71 said, it will be well worth the wait.

I hope so Scott! :fingersx:
James There will be a door directly into the house. Right now it looks like it will be in the right hand back corner when your looking in from the street. On the inside I have the area between the living room and the dining room where the color changes. The door will be on the dining room side of the color change so my wife will have aplace to put her hutch. This and white gable end vents are the only thing she has asked for so I can't complain.
The door will start where window molding is and run to the right.
There will be 5' between the doors.

Doorplacement001.jpg

Well it was a really miserable day weather wise cold misty and windy, but they got the house roof done. They got here at 7 am and finnished at 1:30. They stripped it put water and ice protection and shingled, put new ridge roof vent and capped it. They only did the house. My contractor is doing the garage roof and the tie in to the house. When he gets ready to shingle the garage he will put the three 14" Velux sun tunnels in . One into the house to bring some light in where we removed the window in the dining room and the other two will be in the garage near the back side close to the house.
Here are some pictures from today.
Starting the stripping.

NewRoofgoingon002-1.jpg

All stripped and water and ice protection going on.

NewRoofgoingon004.jpg

30lb felt paper and shingles going on

NewRoofgoingon015.jpg

Caps and sealing around chimney

NewRoofgoingon019.jpg

And the finnished roof. The parts that aren't done is where he is going to tie in the garage roof.

NewRoofgoingon020.jpg

Its getting exciting now for sure, I can't wait until the roof is all tied in and water tight.

Wayne, the roof looks great with the architectural shingles. I can relate to your frustration with how long it took. In my case it had not rained in six weeks but it poured the night before the roof was to go on, which delayed it several weeks because the roofer got busy with another job. Now that its completed you'll soon forget the frustration. They did a nice job.

Well they came over today and finnished the trusses that tie into the house roof. The'll be back tomorrow to put the plywood on so the roofing contractor can come Saturday to finnish tieing the house roof to the garage . They will roof the high peak . The rest of the garage will be done by my contractor. They'll be making a closed valley by weaving the shingles together.

Here's a couple pictures from today. They opened up the roof and cut off the rafter tails so the last full size truss could be set against the house.

Wayne, Its looking great. I'm guessing it was a little time consuming when they opened the roof at the house, making sure they got it right. Looks like the did an excellent job. That's a steep roof. I also really like the architectural shingles.

If those are the only two things she ask for, you got lucky., I'm committed for a new bathroom downstairs once mine is done. I was hoping to work on the car.

They got the rest of the plywood on the roof today. I also had them put my Velux sun tunnel flashing in so the roofers can finnish the rest of the roofing tomorrow. The roof on the garage is almost as large as the house. It was a beautiful day so I took a little flight to get these pictures.

If you notice any shaking its me not the lift. lol

Those houses are three deckers. I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling looking at that gutter on that house

Wayne, it's looking great. I'm glad they were able to make this progress working around the weather. Great idea on the sun tunnels. If I recall from my reading, I believe the 10" put out the light of a 100 watt bulb. You will have sufficient light so you don't have to constantly turn on lights when you go in there. It really looks good and ties in nicely with the house.

Thanks KYGTP.
Larry Those are 14" rigid pipe tunnels. There suposed to be enough for a 10'x10' room each. I figured with the windows on the east side I would put two tunnels on the west side sense there are no windows on that side. I'm putting a 10" just to the left of the front door which will put it at the bottom of the stairs to the second floor to make up for the bay window we're taking out. I was going to put a 14" but the flashing is so big it would have ended up in the valley which wouldn't work out. So 10" it is.

They finnished the roof Monday and put the domes on the sun tunnels to make the roof weather tight. The only thing left for them to do is the porch and siding, then the rest is up to me and it will slow down quite a bit. I still have to have the electrician put the load center in the garage and put power to the house from the garage. Then the garage door has to go in.

Here are some pictures from yesterday.

Started the valley It has water and ice on already.

Here they are finnishing up the roof. Its funny now that the roof is done it feels more real if thats possible.

Finniisingroof010.jpg

The windows went in and their going to work out well. The bottom of the window is about chest hieght. I didn't noticed that the locks are connected when you lock the bottom it locks the top at the same time. Which is good the top is out of my reach.

Finniisingroof007.jpg

Finniisingroof008.jpg

The man door went in.

Here are some obstructed picture of the roof. When the lift is gone I'll post somemore.

The're starting on the porch and getting ready for the siding. I'm waitng for some triangle gable end vents that I ordered last

Thanks guys its flying now It might be done next week if all goes well.
theroyz I might cut the asphault even with where its cut in front of the garage in the spring. No plans for it right now.

Today they installed the A/C sleve in the back wall. He also trimmed out the front soffit area. Then he started the vinyl on the side and back.

Here are some pictures of the vinyl going on.

Trimmed out with the AZEK and vinyl corners.
Moreprogress008.jpg

Moreprogress009.jpg

Moreprogress013.jpg

Here is the A/C sleve I know it looks low but the heat will be above it. and inside the floor is lower than the outside grade.

Moreprogress011.jpg

They also started the front porch. There's a 4' deep 12x12 footing for the PT 6x6 . The weight from the roof is on the wall not on the 6x6 so all it will hold is the porch itself. They are putting a 8" sonotube for the bottom of the stairs. Here are some pictures.

Here is a picture of the roof with the two sun tunnels on it.

Man Wayne, I know you got a slow start with the weather, but those guys are really moving on now!!

It has to make you feel better being under roof and waterproofed. With you being up east, I am sure the weather can turn at any time on ya. I know here in the Ohio Valley, they always say "If you don't the weather today, just wait till tomorrow".

It is looking great!!!
