I haven't got any reply from the door guy. I sent him an email to see if he was interested, he never answered. So he's out, I'm not chasing someone to give my money to. My buddy wants to help me put it in. The money is so tight this time of year he says put the money I was going to pay the door guy towards a high lift kit and we'll install it. He's like family and always there to help me. I'm a lucky guy to have a friend like him. He's also the guy I dragged to South Carolina three times to deliver stuff for my car. I've been watching videos on installing the door it doesn't look too bad. We're going to put the door in with the track it came with and stop where the bend . That way the garage will be all closed in. Then I will order the high lift kit which will take two weeks to get delivered. I need the weight of the door thats the only reason I need to wait to order the kit so I get the right springs.
I guess it takes me three tries to get someone to do something done...

Wayne, I hear ya on having a good friend who is always there.

as for your door, it is easy to install, well it was for me and my friend, Brian.

If you go to

http://www.steel-craft.ca/Residential/Downloads/tabid/84/Default.aspx

They have an installation manual download that may help. If worse comes to worse, once you have it up then call a door guy to finish it off.

Ya money is tight this time of year and when the budget runs out, you have to save as much as possible and do asuch of the work yourself.

Hope this helps you a little anyways, just trying to help

Wayne, I 100% agree with you about not chasing someone to give them money, especially in this economy. To be honest the install you do yourself will be better than what you would pay for. I hate to say that, as I still feel that there are guys out there that still do quality work for an honest pay. Most of the time when somebody shows up at my house to do work, there so behind that they should have left 15 minuets ago and they haven't made it out of the truck. The guys that did mine have to come back because a couple of panels were damaged. Also I'm going to make them re-adjust the door so it will fit a little tighter in the hole. I had to align the tracks myself. I was at work when they installed it and I don't even think they tested it before they left. I could not get it to work when I got home. I had to make some adjustments before it would run. I was not happy. They showed up at 9am and was gone by 11. This was on a Saturday morning. That was another mistake. I had already had everything pre-wired (roughed-in). All they had to do was make the terminations. They cut the wires real short and it looks like mickey mouse wired the control board on the motor. I'm hoping I have enough slack to straighten the mess out when there done. When they come back it will be on a Wednesday when I'm off and I'm going to tell the rep for the guys not to be in a hurry when they show up.

Its supposed to be soon. He's working on it and getting close. No firm date yet.
Started getting ready to put the garage door in today. We got a late start and got most of the hinges and struts on today . Tomorrow we will put it in place and attach the rest of the hinges so we can close it up.

Thanks Larry. He's allwaysthere to help. We get in some funny situation's.
Well got a little progress done today. My buddy Buster and I put all the hinges and struts on my garage door yesterday, but ran out of daylight. We froze our cookies off yesterday it was cold and windy so when it got a little dark it wasn't too hard to quit. Today we went out and put the door in and secured it with some 2x4"s I was short two #4 hinges no one had them . I finally called a door installer to see if he had them. He did. He was going to the next town over to look at a job so he brought them to me. Not bad for a $10 sale. When he got there I asked him to get me a price on a high lift track for my door. He said no problem he would get back to me. Maybe there is one guy around here that needs the work. I hope it pans out.
Here's what it looks like with the door in.

Thank you everyone.
The door takes away from the big area above it. I was worried the gray would be too much but it looks better than I thought it would. The door still isn't operable, waiting on high lift track. If the door company here is too much $ for the tracks. I'll order it from one of the links in another thread here. I've already checked the price there. When we got the door up the sun was still out . I thought it would be dark in there. It was plenty bright in there and I don't even have the tunnels on the sun tunnels yet.

Congrats on getting the door in Wayne. It really completes the project, at least from the outside. This will really help keeping the cold off you while you finish the inside.

Thanks for the kind words.
Yesterday they installed the fire rated sheet rock on the wall between the house and garage. It had to go all the way up to the roof because I'm not going to finnish the rest of the insulation and sheet rock for a while. We also blocked the opening inside wher'e the window used to be. We insulated and put blue board so it can be plastered.
Here are some pictures.

Looking good Wayne. The little details take time but are falling into place. How are you coming on the hardware for the high lift installation?

Thanks Larry . As a matter of fact I just got the price on the high lift kit. The door guy called Clopay and got a price for the kit. He is going to get the kit and install it for $475 I checked online and the kit was going to cost me $300 so for the $175 he'll install the kit and the liftmaster opener. I don't think thats too bad. It will take until the first week in January to get the kit delivered. Then we'll make a date to install it.

That seems within reason to me as well. I'm glad you have that all worked out now and can check off another loose end on your list.

Not too much last week so I waited to get something to post. Last week they came to get the pile of waste form in front of the house' So nice with that gone.
Today the electrician showed up and started the ruff in for thr electric. They ran the wire for the power to the house from the panel in the garage. The house will stay on temp power for a while longer but will only need the connection at the meter. The're putting one light out side, plus one inside a receptical and a heat detector. I'll put more later when my wallet recovers.

Here are some pictures.

Wayne, The wiring is looking great. It looks like you have an electrician that takes pride in his work. You can tell this by the way he routes the wiring. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics.

Thanks guys It feels good to be moving forward and getting close.
The mast for the electric is installed and all the wiring is inspected and the inspector came out and it passed. The electrician is trying to get an appointment for next week to switch the power to the new service. Then I can get the building inspector here to inspect so I can get my occupancy permit. Then when the car is done I will be ready to bring it home.
Here's a small update

Nothing done but some good news. I just got a call today the power company is going to change the power from temp to permenant next Wednesday at 8:30 am. ( of course they're calling for rain and snow. )
Then I got a call form the door guy he said the high lift tracks should be here Friday and we can install them next week.
Its either nothing or everything. Not that I'm complaining.

I say Amen brothers. We have permenant power!
The electrician showed up at 8:15 and killed the temporary power at the meter. Then he went downstairs in the cellar and connected the power from the panel in the garage and seperated the whites from the neutrals in the house panel. The power company showed up and changed the power from the temp pole to the mast on the garage and installed the meter. The electrician put the cover on the panel in the garage and they were done. All before 10:00 am
The inspector showed up later in the day and passed it, so we're golden!
When the power company truck showed up the sun came out and the clouds split like the parting of the red sea.
I have an appointment for Friday morning to install the gutters and down pipes. If it doesn't snow. Them the door guys is coming in the afternoon ot install the highlift tracks and the Liftmaster 3800 opener. That should get me to where I can call for the building inspector to come check it out.
Here are a few pictures.

The guy came and did the gutters today. It took one guy about 4 hours to finnish the job. He did some nice work. Just in time for tomorrows snow..
Here are some pictures of the work.

002-4.jpg

This corner was tricky, the porch roof is a couple of inches higher than the house roof. He did a nice job matching it.

Then I got a call around 11 am from the garage door guy he wanted to install the track and opener today because he had another person cancel. He came to the house and started installing it. They got the track in and were adjusting the torsion springs and found a problem. The door was light and would open when it was down and heavy ( came down ) when it was half way up. He said they sent the wrong springs so it won't be done until next week.

Atleast I got to see it open halfway.

Oh well they tried.

Wayne, good to see the progress that is being made these past few days. It's frustrating with the start stop work but it keeps moving forward nonetheless. Hang in there Wayne. The gutters really look good.
