How would you rate them? I'm only mildly satisfied with the work and the experience. 6 of 10 points.

Next on my list is putting up some drywall so I can get my wall cabinets mounted.

For the price they are pretty good - I found a plan like I wanted on the Twickenham Auto Club forum. I wanted one bay with a loft and the other with scissor trusses so I could put a lift in eventually.
I looked at that garage and CH built it - Gary understood what I wanted - I also like the fact that they could put it up in a couple of days.

I liked the way they built everything on jigs at the yard, so it had to be square. I looked at a couple of other garages that were not square, had 8 foot doors that people could hardly drive into, etc.

All in all, I am pretty pleased. I may have been able to save a little money going a different route, but it would have taken me forever to get the building up. Mine is also 24'x36', but I have doors on the long side.

Mine is of my own design. I dealt with Randy and he had some suggestions of which I included a few. He said they build their own trusses and claims that other builders buy theirs from them.

It was nice to leave for work with just a bare slab and come home to walls and a roof.

I considered doing mine with the doors along one side like that. I think I went they way I did to keep my back yard somewhat rectangular. It would have been a funky L-shape.

Are your walls 10' as well? I sometimes think I should have gone taller. Also, have you extended your driveway or done anything about the step up at the doors? If so did you have someone do it or did you DIY? Yours looks more severe than mine.

Here is what I have now - I got a guy that used to work for Randy pour my ramp. He knew what to do, and he got a deal on the concrete. I do have a steep slant on the right side. I also ran PVC pipe through there for drainage
I have not extended my driveway yet - I am probably going to put a couple of concrete "running lanes" back to the garage.

I have the 10' walls - I could have gone a little taller, but I don't know if the cost would have been worth it. I have a 14+ foot ceiling on one bay for a lift anyway.

Do you mind sharing the guy's name? I was hoping to run my driveway all the way back and have a small area in front of my roll-up and service doors done.

Frank - he took a job at TVA and I am not sure if he still does the work, but I bet he can find someone - I will try to find his contact info this weekend and get it to you.

Thanks Cobra6. I am not in a rush to get it done but wanted to get a feel for how much money I'll need to save.

Installed my exterior light today. Like an idiot I dropped it off of the ladder and cracked it.

Newborn daughter plus her 2 year old sister are eating all my spare time and money. Slowly getting back a little of both so here is an update.

gxpRHCT.jpg

I got some insulation in. I could only afford to do about half of the back wall. Hopefully I can get the rest for that wall this month and the drywall. I just want to get the cabinets mounted so I can start putting stuff in them.

Father's day gift from my dad. Moves a lot of air but I like the sound of it too. I think he feels guilty for asking to store his car/tools here so he's been paying "rent" by buying this, some tools, and the HF tool cart for me.

Cool build and nice to see another local GJ member. Are you in Madison or Huntsville? We just moved to a 'new' place in Monrovia and I have a similar sized detached that I'll be finishing out soon.

Keep up the good work.

I am in about the same boat as you - got derailed helping some friends during the March tornadoes - now my daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks - I am just throwing in insulation as I can afford it and have time to put it up.

Still no sheet rock. Wife was pretty adamant about getting gravel down so....

Two tri-axle loads of gravel.

My father-in-law is supposed to bring his tractor down for me spread it with.

What did you terminate you voice and data to? Did they run to an IDF in the garage or all the way back into the house? I'm assuming you have quite a few outlets since you bought 1000 feet of it.

They run all the way back to the house. I got a great deal on the 1000' spool. I figure I've only used 200' or so of it for phone and network. I don't mind having the extra. I've made several custom length cables for the existing network in the house with it.

Ok I wasn't sure the distance you were running since Cat5e/Cat6 have a max length of 100m

I checked what the maximum length of cat6 was before I did any of it. My whole yard from the street to the fence in my backyard is only around 200 feet. Even though I did not measure the actual run I'm sure I'm well below 100m.

Several hours of spreading gravel later...

rHXg59x.jpg

The tractor that slayed it.

We (my father-in-law and I) also put the fence back up. We had to dig a hole for the 6"x6" post and trim off the bottom 5 or so inches of the fence to accommodate the gravel. The original hole got filled and packed by the dirt they dumped at the edge of my driveway to keep the trucks from destroying it.

Here's my audio upgrade. I told my dad I was looking to get a new one since ye olde Kenwood was showing it's age. He was literally inches away from donating his old switch and receiver to goodwill. The next thing I know he's dropping them off at my house.

The laptop was my wife's old machine. It's around 6 or 7 years old now, a 17" Alienware Pentium M. I think I got that right. Running Fedora Core 17 now.

I'm convinced one of these is the right color for my garage. I'm thinking the green card on the left, 2nd from bottom.

Some paint. This wall is completely done, minus mounting the cabinets and re-installing the receptacles.

Got the cabinets mounted. It wasn't too difficult, I only hit my head once.

And the drywall up on the east wall.

BIG things coming in the next couple of weeks.

Installed some OSB for storage above the trusses. Also, put in the garage door light. Really just killing time waiting for...

This to be delivered. It's only a rental for a couple of hours. It was completely necessary for...

It took my father and me about 5 hours to get to this point. Totally doable with 2 people, 2 floor jacks with a 20" rise, and a northern tools furniture dolly.

I got a clock but I'm probably going to find a another one for the other end of the garage. I wanted one that doesn't tick and plugs into 120V. This is an old General Electric.
