As for this Mopar banner.....I dunno. It's awfully big ( 4x12).
It might be too much. Or not.

At any rate I can't decide where I want to hang it, so for now
it's draped over the Charger :dunno:

Got the wall cabinets up. They were too heavy to lift, so I snugged a ratcheting tie down around each one and lifted them into place with the cherry picker.

I had to relocate the outlet down slightly. Not sure what posessed me to install it 4" higher than the other one, must have had some creative thought I've long since forgotten.

Was undecided for location for awhile there but figured that out, sort of wanted to recover them but decided I would rather just use the darn things so up they went.

Very happy to get this done

how about the "Rock Solid" garage? how loud is that compressor? I was looking at pretty much the same unit I saw at the menards here.

nice place though, Mopar or no car right?

(ok, I like all the old stuff and I'm just a Chevy guy that drives a Dodge)

Compressor is a 3450 rpm fairly loud piece, but looks possible to improve it by fabbing a nice air intake setup. As it sits, it's a huge improvement over the oil free stuff I had before so for now I'm leaving it.

I have put a couple scratches in the floor from dragging transmissions across it, it's to be expected and doesn't bother me much. Flooring is good.

Been a Mopar freak for many years, so the Mopar theme is an obvious one for me......but I appreciate everything out there and could create an excuse to own almost anything from an air cooled VW to a '71 Torino to a 911, very few machines do nothing for me...but they do exist lol. Was exposed to most everything during college years.

I'm brand loyal but not blindly so....the 'theme' part of brand loyalty helps me control myself and helps keep the hoarding down.

In truth, though, there is a slight chance a Karmann Ghia with a Porsche
5 speed trans/2074cc stroker combination might show up in the future if I'm not careful :)

Been one hell of a summer.....

My Dad got sick, was hospitalized for almost 2 months and I lost him early in August :(

It's pretty hard to describe how much I miss him....I'm sure alot of you guys can relate to that....

Just prior to that, I quit smoking (30 year habit)....Not easy...

So, between those two things....I guess I had an excuse for not getting anything done in the shop LOL.

I pretty much dropped everything when my Dad got hospitalized.....Now that I have had a chance to get my head screwed on straight again, I've been out in the shop more.

I had completed on a low buck 440 freshen-up for a big full size C body driver, when Dad got put in the hospital.

The shop was pretty cluttered up with base cabinets that I needed to move to the basement, but never got a chance. Then after Dad passed, alot of stuff cleaned out from his place migrated over to the shop....the place was pretty packed with non-shop stuff.

It took most of the weekend to clear it out and get a car in there again, but I'm happy to report I'm back to turning wrenches. I know I will never stop missing my Dad but he wouldn't want me moping around not getting anything done.

Here's where that freshened up 440 will go....the big cruiser.....'72 Polara. This car is like 23 feet long :) It had 60,000 miles on it when I got it, I put 100,000 on it...I kinda drove it right into the ground...the 400 is getting tired, the 440 should wake it up nicely :)

That's all I've got for now....I'm very pleased to get back to normal and put all the turmoil of this summer behind me.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Glad to hear you are back in the garage wrenching. I'm hoping I have at least another 20 years with my dad. As he gets older I realize how important it is to enjoy the times we do share.

Thank you....it's only been a month, I'm still not used to the idea he isn't around anymore.

I'm still not used to life as a non smoker either, but I'm trying.....
Wrenching is good therapy.

Been there, my Dad has been consciously gone but physically here for 7 1/2 yrs now. I would rather be in your shoes it's easier to deal with. Don't worry though, time does heal all. Your mind will still wander at times, and you may need some time to gather yourself, but it gets easier. Unfortunately I can say that from experience.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my mom last year. We were in the middle of a kitchen remodel so we had cabinets in the garage for staining and a bunch of mom's stuff to sort through in there as well. I can relate to the garage full of non-garage items.

Long time no type

Not sure if anyone is following this anymore, but here we go again....

Been alot of changes.

For awhile my patience seemed non-existent, and I found it hard to work on much of anything.

Having lost the decades-old enemy/"friend" of tobacco, I could no longer light up and contemplate. That messed me up for a long time. Besides the whole chemical addiction, lacking that process of having a smoke and thinking about things made me work myself into a corner several times. Like so many who quit smoking I also put on about 40lbs seemingly overnight, which hurt even more. All this was causing problems so I backed off for awhile and only did the minimum to get by.

While all the above tried my sanity, I wondered if I would ever make any more progress on the shop. As a result the big green car got nothing done to it for awhile. I worked on the daily drivers outside when I had to (yuck), eventually learned how to give myself little breaks instead of relying on the "need" to smoke, and slowly got my patience back.

I then lost my job, was afraid to spend any money on the shop/cars during that time, and 4 months later took another automotive desk job.....

After a long weekend of brake + exhaust work on my sloped house driveway, missing a little skin here and there because of the working conditions.... I went looking for a deal on a hoist (for the 1000th time).

This time I found one. Cheap. And the guy even delivered it.

It's an old bendpak, two post floor plate unit. I've had no luck locating the model number but Toland at Bendpak told me it is a 9000lb capacity and that's good enough for me.

I didn't get to see it in operation, but the seller swore up and down it was a good working unit before he pulled it. I did run 240 to the power unit, it kicked on and moved fluid so hopefully it should be OK. I'm in the process of pulling it apart, cleaning and lubing all the carriage rollers, replacing a few parts, etc. And am back working on the big green bomb too, getting it operable so it can be pulled out for the hoist installation.

Really, really looking forward to getting the hoist in this summer, and getting down to some serious work + being able to keep the daily drivers in much better shape.

Anyway here are some pics of my new-to-me, ugly hoist.

This is the cleanest it's been since 2012, freshening up the engine and throwing it + fresh trans in the old girl wasn't supposed to take quite that long.

Very glad to be making progress again and to get one step closer to hoist installation :)

I've been at it again. It's a bit difficult to move the hoist around on a gravel drive without special equipment but with the cherry picker and truck, I managed to get it mocked up working by myself. Installation isn't complete, still working on placement etc....I bought the anchor bolts, need to borrow hammer drill + bit and read up on best shim practices for the install. Getting close, though :)

Just been using the shop, getting some basic projects done and maintaining the vehicles, and showing the boys a little bit when possible. Having a comfortable place to work has been amazing.

Been going over a few ideas for small improvements and thoughts on how to clean up my act more. Tried a couple simple ideas that seemed good at first, but didn't work out.....ended up with a few messy spots here and there, but I will work through it and do clutter control.

The place doesn't look the way I want it to yet, but it definitely works (almost) exactly how I want.

I'm on my 3rd big 3 contract job since this thread started. The first one lasted almost 9 years, the second only a few months before I got disgusted with it, and the current one I hope to hang on to for some time. I'm almost caught back up financially and will hopefully have more money to spend on the place + the old iron soon.

Hope to have something more exciting or visually appealing to post soon. For now, this will have to do :)

Hi G,

Everything is good, thanks.

Not much in the way of garage updates, just been enjoying the shop the way it is for now, and keeping vehicles maintained. Hope to have something worthy of an update by spring if not sooner, but it'll probably be a baby step. I'm content right now to just USE the shop instead of work on it.

Definitely have become spoiled rotten by the hoist and heated floor.

Been a guitarist/vocalist since age 12, and kind of shifted the spare time emphasis back towards that for a little while.

Between work, family, music, cars/the shop....it's pretty easy for me to stay out of trouble :)

I have spent the last hour or so reading over your build. It is awesome to see a build beginning to end (even though it never really is the end, is it) Reading this build gives me more encouragement to get my **** in gear and start working towards my build. (once money makes itself available) If you don't mind me asking (I didn't see it in the build) About how much did the construction of the garage cost?

Thanks!

Truthfully I don't even want to think about the cost, too depressing.

I'd have to take a guess at probably somewhere between 20 to 30k all-in?

Maybe more than that but not by much. It is paid for and not on credit, which was important at the time.

Thanks for saying so, I do appreciate the kind words.

Looks like I've got a couple gigs coming up, haven't planned any rehearsing in the shop just yet.....but it's possible. I've done a few late-night amp check outs in there and it does sound good with the high ceilings and all. Might post some music related stuff if it comes to mind.

Sorry I haven't been back too often lately, music has kind of taken over.

Yukon, there is enough room to park a 1968 Dodge Charger next to the lift, and still room to walk past the car too. It's between 9 and 10 feet. Really no problem, plenty workable. It just doesn't leave much room for slop.

The shop has proven to be a good place to crank it up a little, at night when the family is asleep.

Hope things are going good for everybody. Will be back for sure. Peace.

Hey, Thanks for getting back to me! Yea I was wondering if there was room for a boat and a 2 post lift in a 24ft wide garage, on paper it looks plenty doable. Tight but do able. Curious about real world use lol. I guess I need to measure the boat stalls at our lakehouse and see how wide they are. We only have maybe 8" on either side of the trailer tires. haven't had any issues with it so Ill call that my minimum lol.

Just taking a quick look around and kind of a check in. Knocked out a pretty big project on the big ugly green Dodge and have been in and out of there with other projects. I love having the shop there. It is such a comfortable place to work, and dream a little bit.

Alot of times, I'll just run in there to change guitar strings, and have to admit, too sometimes the '72 Dodge doubles as a guitar maintenance bench  :)

Need a work area in the house too for stuff like that, haven't set one up yet.

Hey, what's goin' on. Kind of a check in/update.

The band/music has been less busy these days, so that's given me the chance to switch back to the neglected car hobby and get back to working in the shop/on the shop.

Things are good...Never a lack of anything to do LOL....this place has turned out to be really great, and easily worth all the effort involved.

Recent re-org:

I liked the look of the corner cabinets I started off with, but if I put anything else in that general area, they became useless...could not get to them..... Meanwhile I bought a bunch of shelving, which sat around for a long time before I figured out what to do/what to try next. This seems like it'll work, I can put lightweight or low demand stuff in the high cabinet, and use the lower one....now that I can actually get to the darn thing, I'l be better about putting things away.
