Wow. Thanks for posting pics as you build. Did you comparison shop against a steel building on slab as well, or did you know from the outset you wanted a pole building and then narrowed down to your chosen vendor?

I did look into steel buildings, but I just couldn't get down to the number for a pole type building. I knew from the start it would be 100% DIY, as I'm too cheap to hire out labor, so a pole barn just made more sense. I pretty much figured my materials, and called around and got prices.

Nice place, I could easily live with that, but alas my town will not allow pole barns for some unknown reason. To many uppty people in my district I believe.

I have insulation coming in the next couple weeks, so I needed to get the ceiling up. I'm doing spray foam on the walls, and blown in cellulose above the ceiling.

Plastic vapor barrier going up. PITA...

Bought a drywall lift so I can do the panels by myself. Worked out very nice.

Here is where I ended up. Couple more panels to go up, a center piece of trim, and It will be complete and ready for lights.

Slowly coming along..

Doing interior framing, and mounting plugs.

Some progress by Joe malucci, on Flickr

Built a shelf where the furnace is going, and will be putting my air compressor up there too.

I will be doing an LED strip light across the top of the lean to porch area. Just testing it out. I think it should be bright enough for what I'm doing..

Some small updates, ran the Gas inside the house, and tied in the electrical.

Due to distance from the house, and volume loss, I had to come off the meter with 1" instead of 3/4. So came off the meter into the house, and ran a 1" to the back of the house where it goes underground and to the shop.

Threading 1" by hand kind of *****..

Teed off the existing 3/4 to run the 1"

Permanently mounted the panel in the garage.

Tied in some breakers for the lights, and plugs. Still a couple circuits to run, and one for the 220 line for future welder. Attempted to keep it looking clean.. I'm not a pro.

Yes it will. I didn't hook up the furnace yet, but it's amazing how warm it stays since we have dipped into the 20's already. It just feels nice and sealed up.

Had a stretch of decent weather this week so decided to pour the apron and porch. Color will get a lot lighter when it fully cures, so it's hard to tell, but I like it so far.

Doing exposed aggregate under porch. Spray on surface retarder, then rinse top layer off.

It's not sealed yet, so its going to look dull, but once it's sealed and cured it should really pop.

Thanks for the input! Didn't really do anything over the winter except store **** inside it. I've grown to hate the concrete color over winter, but can live with it.

I will be doing some updates and completing the garage in the coming weeks.

For top entry in your sub, you should pull enough length to get your conductors to the base of the panel, and then up to the breaker. Leaves you enough room in case you need to move a circuit/breaker.

Finally getting back to work on the shop. Had some wasted space so decided to build a "shelf".. I really didn't want a support post, so I used a double LVL beam to span the 23 feet. I took some measurements and if it starts to sag I will put a post in. I don't plan on putting anything super heavy up there so we will see..

For the record I don't have all the weight on the posts.. I am going to put more 4x4 bracing under it so it's mostly freestanding on the concrete. It is anchored to the posts so it doesn't move. It is 23' x 8' of storage.

Done! Now I have some storage. I just need to get some 4x4's under the headers and lvl corners to hold it all up.

Also started hanging the ceiling in the overhang. Put some recessed lights under there too.

A little backwards on the timeline, but also finished all the trim and wrapping the posts. Screwed up a couple of the posts, so I need to get a few more pieces of steel, and caulk everything, but that's about it. Had mine and the gf's parents over for fathers day.

Thanks for the comments! It's turning out very nice I'm just debating what to do with the inside. I'm thinking 1/2" plywood for the walls and paint. I have a stack of 3/4" sitting there but figure that would be more useful doing something else with.

Great project so far. Nicely done, I like the shelf above the door and the loft storage space. I plan on working something similar into my 24x32 being built as we speak. The shot of your truck inside makes it look a lot bigger, do you have any others after the concrete was poured?

Just got through catching up on this, and looking brilliant!

I like the idea of putting the compressor up high, using a bit of an otherwise useless space, I might have to look at doing that!

Long time since I had any updates.. Just got around to finishing off the inside with plywood. I will be painting it when it warms up in spring, but at least the electric is done, and walls are covered for now. Wish I did this before it was full!

Picked up a new Husky 72" box.

Place is gonna look huge when all painted up.

Plans for another tool box? Cupboards the whole span under the mezzanine?

I would also wall off the mezzanine with French doors in the middle to hide the stuff above.

Awesome job man. Looks very similar to mine and similar dimensions. Love the eaves and can lights in the lean to. Wish I had the extra $$$ to do that on mine, but I had mine built. I like the idea of that storage loft up in the back of shop. I might steal that idea from you for my lean to.

For sure, toolbox, benches, cabinets, etc.. all soon to come.

What's up Mike! Is this the legendary fab master Eames? lol

Trust me the space got small quick! If only I could have fit a little bigger building on my lot.

So far the double lam beam shelf has only deflected a little over an 1/8" in the center. so it's holding for now. Like I said my load calculations may be a bit rusty, but if it ever starts to sag a lot I will put a support under it.
