Love that counter top, very creative. We also save corks so this is an appealing idea. Didn't notice that you were in Canada, more importantly Ontario before i saw that Vintages magazine.

Thanks Dubber. Good catch, we are guilty of drinking Ontario wines too.

There's all kinds of ways to do the cork top counters. I chose to use glass as a covering, but some have done it with clear acrylic mixtures too. The glass will last a long time and it's easy to keep clean. Not to mention if I get bored of the corks or want to add some 'Vintages', it's easy to remove.

Love it all. I'm looking at a smaller build, but similar concept. I want a loft. Thanks for the ideas (and for coming back two years later!)

awesome build... I thought I noticed a unit heater upstairs on the wall. how'd you heat it. btw, I spent a lot of time trying to find pics of an attic truss rec room like yours and I also decided today prior to seeing these pics, to do almost exactly what you did with your staircase and the closet. it affirms my idea that i'll endup with some useful space under the stairs.

Earthworks: I had to separate the garage heat from the loft heat. I was going to put in a house forced air furnace under the stairs to do both spaces. Apparently this not a good idea pulling cold air from your garage and pumping it into the loft. If there are fumes in your garage, it would transfer to the loft.
So... I went with a radiant heat system in the loft.

Hot & Cold:

Heat for the garage is a Modine 75,000 BTU shop heater. It's overkill for my shop especially with the glass doors pulled over in the shop. However, it's only on for a few minutes to get up to temperature. Really efficient. Operates on a digital thermostat.

Heat for the loft is an Empire 35,000 BTU radiant heater. This a great little furnace that can heat up to 1500sq'. I was fortunate to pick this up used from a cottage. It's perfect for the loft. It also has a built in optional fan to circulate the heat quicker. It too operates on a digital thermostat.

Air conditioning for the loft is a Klimaire ductless spit AC system. 18,000 BTU. Super quiet system that operates from a digital remote control. This is a great package deal that was easy to install.

Game Day:

Super bowl will be hosted this year in the loft. The guy with the biggest TV gets to host in our family. In fact 10' big.

In the planning stages of the loft, I framed in a cavity over the front window for the big screen to sit in. With some black out curtains pulled and the flip of a switch, the big screen falls from the ceiling. I also pre-wired HDMI cables through the ceiling and power for the projector - nice and neat.

I enjoy watching sports on the screen, but my favorite is to put on a concert and crank up the surround sound. Show time!

Just when I thought it was over with....my wife suggested she would like a pool.
So much for all that grass seed after the build.
I'll keep you posted.

Thanks to you bumping this thread today, I was able to see your build for the first time. :) I really like your whole layout, and colors. Very Nice!
I like your bar top too, I'm going to remember that idea for a bar of my own.
