We started our renovation pretty much the day after buying the house in the basement.
We started with this.
And turned it into this.
The end wall houses our entertainment system, with the TV, and all the electronics hidden inside of it. The cubby holes have LED's that we installed so they light up whatever color you want to match your sports teams or whatever. There are 11 speakers in the walls and ceiling.
We also installed a bathroom in the basement, note the custom pine drop ceiling we came up with for the bathroom. One of my favorite features along with the jet shower.
Heated tile floor and jet tub.
Gotta have the TV for the soaker tub. The kids love it at bath time, and its nice to put the game on in there when guys are over so they don't miss any of the action when they are using the bathroom.
Custom cabinets and desk incorporated a fridge into my office which is tucked into a corner of the basement living room area.
We also added a guest bedroom.
And my son's room. We have since added larger windows to both the basement bedrooms to exceed the minimum egress bylaws and get more natural light in the basement.
Moving upstairs we completely redid the entranceway, leveling the floor, adding heated tiles and a large walk in closet. We also added a window to the banister to open the area up a bit more. We also added LED lighting to the glass which you can see faintly in this photo which lights up the stairwell at night on an automatic timer.
Next on the list was the terrible 1980's golden oak kitchen that we couldn't afford to replace but we could afford to upgrade a little. We turned it from this.
To This.
The cupboards are original still, we just had a guy come in and restain them all. We also sent the doors out to get sanded and painted at his shop. Very happy with the results. We also added a concrete countertop, new sink, new appliances, a stainless and granite backsplash and new flooring.
Funny story about this fridge. My contractor told me, you buy whatever size fridge you want and I will make it fit. So my wife and I picked out this monster (at least it seemed that way to us) and he worked his magic and true to his word he made it fit. he had to cut out the drywall behind it in the partition wall and counter sunk the fridge into it.
