Nice Shop and excellent fabrication

Thanks.

Quick Update:

I spoke with an Engineer from the Company that built my roof trusses about modifying them for more ceiling height above my lift. He told me that they just finished a job up the street from me doing the same thing and knew exactly what needed to be done.

He told me it would be $250 for them to come to my house and provide me with approved and stamped plans for the modification(s) to the trusses.

I set an appointment for them to come by on Wednesday....we'll see how it goes.

So I met with the engineer Wednesday morning and he just called me with the estimate.

They want/need to build me 9 new trusses. They will build each truss in two pieces and sister them to my existing trusses, then cut out the offending pieces of the old trusses. This will give me a tray of 11' wide x 20' long with 22" more than my existing ceiling height of 10'1".

They will do all of this for $1960. $1160 for the trusses and $800 for labor. Sounds reasonable to me. What do you think?

Your shop is amazing, but your fab skills are absolutely off the hook:bowdown:

I'm envious of people that have metal fabfrication skills like yours

ZT, nice to see you posting here. I have followed a lot of your work on other sites and your work inspires me to constantly improve my welding skills. Nice shop and setup that you have. Mike.

Thanks guys.

Here's some TIG welding I did the other day. This is on a piece for a machine at my buddies shop that produces lifting slings, safety harnesses, and ratchet straps.

Thanks Chris..I dress my tungstens on my Burr king belt sander with the Tungsten mounted in my cordless hand drill. I sharpen them to about a 15* angle and to a sharp point. I have tried truncated grinding but find that I like a very sharp point to aid in puddle control.

Here's a nice article on tungsten grinding. My tungstens look like the ones on the far left of the angle diagram.

Hope that helps.

Here are some other pieces I made today.

These are radius rods for the new Polaris RZR XP UTV. The stock ones are 3/4" diameter solid rods and these are 1.125" x .095" tubing and will use 1/2" FK rod ends.

TIG welded using my Aircrafter welding positioner and a 4x4 block of wood as a steady rest for my hands.

Thanks for the link Paul , info I already know but I was interested in what you did , my tig welding isn't quite up to your standard but I tend to go for a sharper grind myself same reason's seem's easier to keep good control of the puddle.

I do not even currently weld and I am subscribing to this because I am amazed at your welding abilities. I welded in college back in 96' for a cool class but not since then. Your welding is amazing! You truly have an amazing skill.

I need to update this thread with some new pictures as I've moved a lot of things around in the shop but I haven't had the time to take any good pics yet.

In the meantime, here are some other projects that I've done.

Got my bandsaw in and made a mobile cart for it:

Thanks...I appreciate all the compliments.

I have taught a handful of people already and am always wiling to help teach others what I know. (It's better when they can teach me something at the same time!).

Here is another bandsaw cart I did for a 23" Pehaka bandsaw that was formerly mine but is now my brother's.

Hi Paul
Just reread your thread , did you get your roof trusses swapped out above your lift . If so it's about time you showed us all a few pics.

Hey Chris...unfortunately I haven't had the trusses modified yet. I paid for and still have the stamped plans and will do it in the future, just not sure when.

I actually sold my Weaver twin post lift and bought an Atlas SLP-7k full rise scissor lift so that I can mount it flush to the floor. Since my shop is quite small I need to keep it as modular and adaptable as possible.

I still haven't even had time to install my scissor lift and I've had the damn thing for almost a year.

Very sanitary work space and amazing fab work.

Impressive to say the least. You are a welding GOD! never seen anything like it
I bow in envy for i am just a mortal

Thanks....I appreciate the compliments.

Is that a toaster oven on the bench?

LOL....yes, sort of. It's an oven that I use for preheating parts before welding.

I used to mainly use it on these...

They are the cutting blades for Champion Rescue's "Beast" cutter/spreader. They are made from S7 tool steel and need preheat before any welding can be done.
