Great looking space. I've been working on my "MIG like TIG" technique with decent success on the rare occasion that I'm not using dualshield. BTW, if you need someone to be a test mule for Raptor 700 parts, I might be willing to do that.;)

+1 fantastic work!!!!

Thanks!

I am impressed with your welding skills ZTFab! And I want you to know that complement does not come lightly. During my college years I was the welders helper for the fab welder on a pipeline job, and what Ole Pete could do with a Lincoln stick welder was just magic. I have seen a couple other guys in the intervening 40 years that were close. But you certainly belong in small group of world class welders.

And I am in absolute envy of your shop and shop equipment.

Congrats.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the compliment.

A SERIOUS fabrication station! Well done

Nope. My neighbors are all very nice....but then again, so am I (at least I hope they think I am). I am respectful of times that I am working and how loud I'm being. I definitely don't walk on eggshells and make plenty of noise but in the 4+ years I have been here I have yet to have a problem....most of the time they come over to see what I'm "tinkering" on. :D

Thanks. Don't think I'll be building any ATV parts anytime soon but if I do I'll let you know.

You have quite the shop. I hope to some day have a shop even half as nice.

And as someone who's first time welding will be tomorrow, I must say thank you for giving me something to strive towards. Your welds are absolutely beautiful.

Thanks...good luck with the welding. It's one of those skills that once you know how to use it you will wonder how you ever did without it.

Awesome work place you have there zt.
Does Jerry Zaiden approve of your welding skill ? He is the foremost expert on everything in his own mind of course.

I would kill for an hour of schooling from you on my 252. My welds look like a gorilla blew his nose on my tube compared to your work.

You are very skilled my friend.

Hey ZT, what are you workig off of? How do you line everything up? I use two oversized saw horses with two I beams on them that I can adjust level with bolts on the bottom. My floor is so bad I can't work off of it.

It's funny that you mention Jerry. He called me last week and wants to hire me to build their 7200 and Trophy Trucks.

Reference measurements.

I set this chassis on some jack stands and adjusted it until I was able to set a level reference plane just forward of the torsion tube. I then use that reference plane and some initial measurements as an origin for all my other measurements...basically the same thing I do in SolidWorks.

My floor isn't that bad but it's pretty f'ed up.

The smart thing to do is to not answer his call. He has as bad a rep with talent as he does with the rest of the off road community.
Basically, you should run. Anything you do for him, he will take credit for.

I bet i could get a pool of guys to pay you not to do work for him.

Just one guys opinion here. You are far to talented for him. And your a nice guy.

I know Jerry. Been to Camburg many times and had many conversations with him and he has always been a good guy, to me at least.

When talking in person he has always given credit to everyone who was/is involved in a build (mainly Jason) but many of the other people they have had do work for them.

I already told him no as I have no desire to drive to Huntington Beach everyday...already did that back when I worked for Specialized Street Rods. F that noise.

I might weld parts for them at my shop but haven't finalized anything.

I personally don't have any problem with him but I know that some people do and they are entitled to their opinion.

Either way, I'm lucky enough to have plenty of work (outside of off-road) that actually pays. Doing some prototype development for Siemens wind power right now.

Let's just say it was a LONG week and my shop is a disaster!

I definitely have my work cutout for me this weekend to get it cleaned up. :Help:

Spent about 4 hours today after work getting the bulk of it cleaned but I'm thinking about changing up the layout a little. Would like to get my welders closer to my sub-panel as I had a little trouble with my TIG doing some thick aluminum prototypes.

Nice garage/tools! Great lookin tube work/fabbin skills! Looks like you've got a very good selection of dies for yer bender... And like you mentioned in the beginning of this thread, having a hydro bender vs manual - (roll bender around vs single point of bending) I recently made the switch and ya, hydro is the only way to go! :rocker:

when you say that its f'ed up is that "ZTFab f'ed up" (meaning its not perfectly straight in only a way you can understand :lol_hitti) or is there something we're not seeing?? :headscrat

LOL...OK, maybe it's not as bad as some of the heaving floors that others have to deal with but in my "blanchard ground world" it's pretty screwed up. :lol_hitti

If you're looking for a new business opportunity, you should consider putting out a welding/fabrication DVD with Flynn from Solo Motorsports. Many people would be interested and would greatly benefit from it, including myself.

I recognize this is an old thread... but please tell me more about those MIG welds!!! I aspire to create welds like that...

I have a Lincoln SP-135 (110V), is it capable of such welds? With the PowerMig 200, what were the weld parameters, wire diameter, gas? Did you use a track or manual? Would appreciate all the info you would give...

wow and I thought the garage builds on here where going to drive me broke, now I have to spend an extra 100 hrs a day in the barn for the rest of my life so I can one day hope to lay a bead like what I have seen here. Better get out there and buy me a welder first.

If you were in any way serious about handing out welding tips and tricks just let me know a time and a place and I will be there with beer in hand, oh and I can lift heavy things and sweep like a demon.

Bill, the short answer, yes. I have used an SP-135 for many years and it is capable of making some great welds...BUT, like all 110v machines they have their limitations so I wouldn't expect to be welding 1/4" plate with the little guy.

I run .023" wire in my SP-135 with C25 shielding gas and use it on 1/8" material and thinner.

What do you mean by track? Are you thinking like a track torch used for cutting or submerged arc?

If so, no. No tracks or guides are used. Just a **** load of practice.
