26x62 detached garage / Poolhouse

Well, we are finally started on our project. The wife and kids wanted a pool and I wanted a garage. After looking at a few ideas, this is what I came up with. It is a 26x62 garage / poolhouse with an 18x18 area in the garage area as well. With this unbelievably mild winter here in Michigan, we are able to move forward faster than originally planned...No frost laws on our roads yet! This is hopefully (lol) what it will look like in a few weeks....

LOL. Should I use Photobucket to post pictures here? It seems all of my pictures are too big. Any input would be appreciated...

Thanks,

That looks really nice.

I use PB for pics, but this place is huge and if you get a lot of hits, it will shut down for a while. That only happened to me once. With a build like this I think you'll see some traffic.

Starting to take shape with the footings and walls. Snow is coming so we are trying to move as quickly as possible.

The snow has come and it FINALLY looks like winter here in Michigan. It has been the most mild winter that I can ever remember here. So with snow, my kids get fired up to run the Yamaha sno-scoots. They are 22 years old but run as if they are new. They are 80cc with kick start and are just great, simple machines for the little monsters....

I little more progress. Ran conduit (3) from the house to the gargage area, moved our existing propane tank next to the the new one and did a little back fill. Can't wait for my first propane gas bill :shocking:

Moving like a herd of turtles but next week should be fun. The pool gets dug and sprayed, walls go up on the garage and some rock retaining walls will be put in on the east side of the garage.

This week, we are starting to form the pool as well as putting up the walls of the garage. The stone arived from Wisconsin over the weekend so we will get started on the landscaping too. Check out that sand in the pool hole!

Are those plumbers or rod busters just finishing up while the gunnite guy is in the deep end? If so, they are on a tight, tight schedule. No one works harder than a gunnite crew that I know of.

Looks great.

No, the plumbers and rod busters got done the day before so we could do the inspections before the spray. It does look like they are doing plumbing work in those pictures though...

And you are right about gunite crews being hard workers. From 6:45am to about 7:00pm, that gunite sprayer never stopped and they were working their tail off.

Trusses were supposed to go up today (Friday) but because of the wind, it looks like they are going up on Monday instead. It is supposed to be in the 60's next week so (hopefully) we will get a lot done.

So basically, pretty soon I will be able to post progress on the GARAGE rather than the boring pool / landscape stuff. This is a "garage" forum for gosh sakes!

Very nice. Dang - no grass growing under those contractors. Moving right along!

I was hot to convert us from all electric to propane, until I figured out that the payback was almost forever due to the price per therm. No NG plumbing in the neighborhood, dang it.

Frame work and more frame work. Also dug a few more trenches to put footings in for a retaining wall. Cart in front of the horse with that but I decided to put a poured wall in with stuck on stone rather than putting in the larger stones that are around the east side of the garage.

You can finally get a feel for the inside of the garage as well. 12' ceilings in the bay area (with 4x6 cut out for attic lift) and then the cathederal ceiling in the 18x18 area....

The pics showing the pool being sprayed why is there a section in the middle of the bottom that looks deep below the re bar did that get all filled with crete for structural strength ?

They left a hole in the center so when they molded the gunite after they sprayed, they had a place to put the extra gunite they had to scrape off. Probably easier than shoveling it out of the pool or removing it a different way...

Awesome man! I like the leaf catcher. You even have a "pond" out back of the shop. I would say I'm envious but envy is a sin, I admire your whole project. I for one can't wait to see it complete with the landscaping and pool filled.

Sorry guys for the late updates but I have been so busy with the kids, family, work, etc.. Nothing too special going on but man, the retaining walls are killing me! So far, we have put in 250 ton of beautiful Wisconsin and it is running my wallet dry. The gas lines, heat ducts, electrical, attic lift, cupola, and cedar ceiling are going in now so everything is moving along at a pace that is quick enough to realize summer is on it's way! In the next two weeks (or so), we will tile the pool, install all pool hardware, poor all exterior areas with stamped concrete, tear down old deck and put new one up with Cumaru decking, drink a few beers, drink some more beer, and then do the exterior bar area. Buuuuuuurp.

I broke this project into three different budgets: Garage, Pool and Lanscaping. So far so good with the first two but my landscaping budget has been exceeded by about 150% and I am not even close to being done...:shocking:

Is that on rock work or the actual plants, just let mother nature grow weeds for a while, so you can get the garage finished.
