3/4" Drive Socket Storage

This is my first thread here on garage journal, I've been following for a couple weeks and mentioned these on another thread and there seemed to be some interest in more details so here goes. After the recent sale on the Sears 3/4" drive metric sockets (found on the hot deals page and helped locate through a GJ member), I decided to build another rack to store them on as well as complete the rack I had started for my SAE sockets (just started purchasing them as money would allow). I thought I'd share a few pics and info for anyone else who's interested. These racks are made out of 3/4" hardwood plywood with 3/4" hardwood dowels. I painted them with black and gray rustoleum gloss spray paint. I modeled them to match with my Hansen socket trays. Layout and spacing was the most time consuming and if I was to do them again I would make the spacing narrower on the MM (my mistake because of time since I made the SAE, *memory fail). I also found out after I made them and the socket's arrived that Sears didn't drill all the through holes the same so I had to drill a few of the smaller sockets out to fit over the dowels. I had a local vinyl shop make up the labels, hopefully they hold up, I think they will since they shouldn't get much disturbance sitting on top. Well enough wordy description, here's some pics

LOL, I tried to buy them from them (Hansen) first, but nobody seems to make 3/4" drive storage solutions (execpt me : ) ), I'd be glad to make them for anyone who's interested for a little more than my cost (probably a little more than a set of Hansens would run you in 1/2" Drive) + shipping

Wow those look great! I saw the thumbnails and thought "when did Hansen start making 3/4 drive trays???"

Very nice! Hansen-ish which is a good thing. A couple things about the 3/4" storage or lack of it is 3/4" is not near as popular as the other drive sizes. They also don't tend to move around a whole lot in the box. I just keep mine in two rows in the back of one of my drawers. I do like the Hansen type ID at a glance.

Yeah, I realize its not as popular, but I wanted all my sockets kept organized and looking similar, plus labeled.

I think they look mighty fine. If I ever get serious about putting together a 3/4 SAE set, I am going to shoot you a PM and see if you are still making them. Right now I only have ratchet, breaker, and a few sockets that I have picked up here and there.

Thanks! I actually still have to get a drive ratchet, for now I use an adapter with my 1/2" stuff. Anyone else have other storage solutions to share, or is just stacking them in the drawer the most popular option?

Nice job mate, I will make some this year too. My 3/4" drive are on a metal rail that flex's and rolls on it's side like a sick snake.

Those look great! I may have to take my 3/4" craftsman sockets out of the plastic case the set came with and use these.

Who knows?
Wow, you jumped in with both feet on that one didn't you? Those things look great man. I doubt Hansen would've done a better job themselves.

I returned the MM set I had picked up for another GJ member. But I have a ton of SAE. I'll keep you in mind if I ever need a rack. Great Job!!

They numbers are made of decal vinyl from a local vinyl shop. Pretty tricky because of how small they are but with a little patience they came out pretty good.
