@ mixxmstrmike

I'm not seeing your images. Looks like they are hotlinked from their source so not everyone will be able to see them.

Thanks for the heads up... Should be working now... Please let me know otherwise.

BTW, that Duralast ratchet has slowly become my favorite... just wished it came in a flex.

Actually, that is the 1/4 stubby with a 3/8 drive square. The stubby 3/8 is part number 3749ps. But it does have 24 t.....

If that Koken is sold as a 3/8" in a 1/4" body, then that's just craptacular. That head is enormous, and would be even worse as a 1/4" drive.

Koken has a vast selection of ratchets, more than any other manufacturer that I know of.

Here's a comparison of some of the Ko-kens mentioned in this thread...

This one mentioned earlier is an odd beast, the head is larger than their 1/4" ratchets but smaller than their 3/8", so it's not a 3/8 in 1/4 body...

Here's their 1/4" stubby for comparison...

So, the OP's question was about a 3/8" drive in a 1/4" body. Which brings me back to the Ko-ken Zeal that I posted early in this thread which is a true 3/8 drive in 1/4" body, smaller than either of the other two Kokens above, and the Wright 3430...

As a fellow UK resident, I would just get the Wright or SK from Amazon.com or a US based eBay seller and pay the postage and taxes. These are a small and relatively inexpensive item so its not too costly to do. I have the Wright and the SK flex head I bought this way. Neither brand is really available here.
The Koken Zeal line is not carried by any UK seller either as far as I have found. My Zeal stuff I imported from Japan with the associated postage and taxes. Rakuten Global sellers I tools and Matsura are both good.

I'm sure Signet/Trident tools do one might be a cheaper/easier option for us Brits

Sure but I would rather have the SK, Wright, Cornwell, Armstrong, Bonney, Indestro, Ko-ken, Nepros and others to go a long with the European stuff we have lots of. Plus some old British stuff. Cheaper and easier has nothing to do with tools for me.

I have the snap on. I use it in place of a stubby 3/8 and in place of a 1/4 standard ratchet a lot of the time. Very useful

I've got the Snap-On, Wright & Matco, the Matco is slipping, the Snappy is an older low tooth count, works okay and the Wright is quite nice and I suspect the S-K mentioned earlier is probably very nice. I also have an adapter that will turn any 1/4" ratchet in to 3/8" drive and no it does make it longer, it's a small home made piece.

So a 3/8 drive male square with a 1/4 female in one side? That sounds neat

Edit, my Matco is very well used, probably limited use will prolong its life. That's what the SK is for. How many teeth are in the wright? I wonder if one of those kits will fit in my old Wright 2400.

Helped a friend from work with a spark plug change on his F250 5.4L and thankfully got yet another one of those done without breaking any of those dreaded plugs. Anywho, while working on it I was showing off my latest tool addition, the Williams M-52EHFA 1/4" to 3/8" dr conversion I posted earlier in this thread, and he mentioned he's had a Snap-On compact 3/8" roto ratchet for years that he didn't think he'd ever used it and asked if I wanted it ....

Oh yeah.

It's an FHC737, which is 39 or 40 tooth as best I can tell, so it's not quite the 72 tooth FHCNF72 I had been eyeballin, but it sure does make a nice addition to my other Snap-On swivel heads...

Loving it. :D

I have several 3/8" heads in 1/4" bodies. I also have a Snap-on inch pound 3/8" torque wrench that I had my dealer convert to 1/4"

For those that have used both, which is preferable, the Wright or SK?

I have both. And have used both. I think they both have their strengths.

The Wright is coarser toothed and probably stronger plus the head is smaller so it is should be able to get in smaller spaces. The SK has finer action and less backdrag so it should be easier to use in confined spaces with a somewhat loose nut or bolt.

They are both very good and I would tend to use the Wright to break something very tight loose and the SK for everything else. If pushed to decide between the two, I would probably opt for the Wright but it is one of those agonizing decisions that always makes me nuts. That's why I have both. :bounce:

What are the dimensions of the Duralast?
Length, width across head, head thickness

Here are a few pictures of the Duralast model I picked up a few weeks ago... 73-868, quick release is very convenient. Recessed switch lever, 72-tooth, non-serviceable head (no screws), not sure if that's a good thing, but the warranty is top-notch.

Head size compared to my FC72.

I bought a 73-868 a few days ago and am very happy with it so far.

As I said in another thread, I really wish they had a flex head version too.

If they offered it in a flexhead, it'd be the perfect spark plug ratchet for tight spots. Love my 3/8" in 1/4" roto, but it comes off of the socket too much. Someone needs to jump on the market for a 3/8" in 1/4" QR flex or roto.

Going to bring this back from the dead -- but that Koken is the real deal in 72T -- and they're dropping the 3/8 in 1/4" body soon...

Here's some hands on deck with a bunch of these style ratchets -- two stood out to me -- the Tone Ratchet and the Powerbuilt (because it's cheap):
