SK 45684 or SK 45685 (depending on which way you want to go - 1/2" socket on 3/8" gun, or 3/8" socket on 1/2" gun). I don't recall which part number is which, SK's site shows the same picture for both (which is the wrong item in either case).

When I get home later I'll look at mine and clarify this.

pins are fine if you only ever use one socket on that tool.

Do you guys not have toolboxes? My punches are only a couple drawers away from my impact sockets... takes about 5 seconds to pull one out and remove the thing. A ball is easier for sure, but its not THAT big of a deal.

For those who prefer ball retainers, buy the 7 piece impact adapter set at Harbor Freight. They are good adapters at a consumable price.

My 1/2' to 3/8" reducer is ball but my 1/2" impact swivel is pin because sockets love to fly when their on my impact. Both are SO

My two cents, but one that can easily warrantied. Its not that they are expensive, but if used on an impact, you will break it sonner or later.

Then either it won't stay on or you won't be able to get it off...

They are actually easier to get off - pull on it with one hand and bump the gun. I put the sockets on 90 degrees off the hole when I'm switching sizes a lot, like doing motor/belt alignment on some of these shaker screens that have 2 sizes on the motor base and 2 different sizes on the jacking bolts (apparently the engineers had some good drugs back when they designed these things).

I have these, they work great untill the magnets fall out and you loose them.

I have been using the same chrome adapters from autozone for the last 7 or 8 years, no problems.

OK, I have to ask: Why would you want to use a 1/2" drive socket on a 3/8" impact gun? BTW, how many of those adapters are impact and not just power tool (impact driver or cordless drill) rated?

why not? maybe the op doesn't own a 1/2 impact.
maybe his 1/2 impact is too big. maybe he likes using the lighter weight 3/8?

Or you have the right size socket in 1/2 but your half inch gun is broke or being used by another tech (i hate sharing tools but sometimes you have to...)

because My 3/8 gun will do 99% of what I need it to do and I have a full set of 1/2 impact sockets and have 3 options but a new set of 3/8 impacts, a 1/2 gun or a adaptor I chose the cheapest option:beer:

OK, thanks for the answer. I personally have complete sets of 3/8" and 1/2" impact sockets, that's why I asked. My 3/8" impact (Craftsman Professional, or in other words an IR composite) will do a lot, but my 1/2" is light (IR TI2135) so I use it a lot.

I don't loan tools (too many walked away in the past). If you are going to work as a mechanic, buy your own tools!
