Just scored a few days ago a smoking good deal on some antique barn lites to retrofit for the exterior lights (see rendering at top of this thread). Just happened to stumble on them, I was telling a co-worker of my score on some coachhouse lights and that I was looking for barn lights, (but new ones were $250 and antique ones upwards of $3-400 each). He said he just happened to have 3 sitting on his garage shelf for over 18 years! He asked for a good bottle of cabernet for all three! $43, awesome. Now to figure out how to retrofit them to a gooseneck!

Been awhile busy with garage, summer, and a long list of chores, here's a few update pics. Also got the epoxy floor down yesterday (Epoxy Master). Looks awesome. Now back to the exterior before the weather changes.

Lookin great!
Is that a standing seam roof and did you have it installed or doit yourself?
My roof will be 10/12 pitch and almost 20' in the air on one side, not sure I want to do it myself...

I had someone do the roof so I could sip beer and watch. To pitched for my poor ankles...its not standing seam just lapped.....cost me around $3000 for material and $1200 to have it installed.

I drove the 'bird down to Langley City Friday for a cruise around (filled up next to a nice 68 Cramaro red convert with black as well) and on Saturday for a few hours. Had to get back tho to finish prepping for the epoxy, ....

I didn't realize the metal roofing was that expensive!! I was planning on doing mine with metal, but I may be shingling it now. At least I can do that myself. Garage is looking good though. Makes me jealous. Had to work on my truck in driveway last night....then it got dark. :(

Don't forget that's close to 2000 sf of material at that pitch, shop is 1200 sf plus eaves plus portico out front. And I have three or so sheets left over for a lean to on the side If I want.

Started on the hardy board the other day. 6-1/4 board with 5" exposure...onward....

which reminds me, better dig out the sand a bit for thickened slab where the posts will be for it.

What are the dimensions of the two footings?

I dont think I need to go six inches for the hole slab for when I go to build mine.

I thickened the slab for the mezz posts and the 2 post lift. I dug out the sand for 3 x 3 pads thickened to about 10-12 inches. The rest of the slab is 4-5 inches with WWM reinforcing and sawcut control joints roughly 12' but aligned to bays and doors. No cracks at all cept one by the mandoor where I was short a few feet of WWM!

Party when the refreshment counter is in! Stereo is in already and Sat dish next week or so....

Framing underway, trusses arrived this morning so will post a pic later....

The portico is not yet built as we decided to get the main trusses up to ensure proper lineup of the eave lines....

On another note, had been looking for some gooseneck lamps (see rendering) for some time and I mentioned this to a co-worker. He just happens to have three sitting in his garage for the last 18 years, the real McCoy, not the repops! All to be had for a good bottle of wine!!

I also found two antique coachhouse art deco lamps for the posts on Craigslist both for $10 !! I'm a happy camper.

Looks like we'll be scouring the same Craigslist for the same stuff!!.....

I love coming across the early 20th century garages. Building one for yourself on that theme is awesome. Lookin' good so far. Beautiful Firebird too!

I e-mailed him a few days ago looking for pictures of the finished garage and haven't heard anything. Love to see it.

Awesome garage! Can't wait to see more.

You mentioned on my barn light thread that you were considering a gooseneck-style arm for your barn lights. Given that your "sockets" (housings?) are a horizontal-entry design, I'd definitely go with simple, straight-out-from-the-wall arms. It'll save you a lot of hassle trying to bend goosenecks which wouldn't look right with your kind of housings anyways. If you changed out the sockets to be vertical-entry, then yes, goosenecks would be very cool.
