The big North wall went on in one day with me and one guy.

The South wall I did myself.

The South wall went on pretty easy, some cutting involved. The short red pieces came short from the building supplier so I didn't have to cut those.

The roof took myself and 2 other guys. All the panel sheeting (walls and roof have mastic sealer on the lap joint to help make it water tight, the insulation is 6" R19.

The doors are Clopay insulated doors. I ordered them from Home Depot's website had them delivered to my house.

What company manf. your steel building? Did you put it up yourself?

Hi Pat, it is all in the first post of this thread and in my signature below.

Yes, I did everything I could myself if humanly possible with one person, I just couldn't afford it with labor costs.

The rest was $100 dollar bills and 18 packs of Bud Light. (a couple things most construction workers can't resist)

One of the best days of all is when I cut the door in the old shop.

I'd been "walking around" for at least 6 months, the new walk through door is awesome.

Shop 46.jpg Shop 47.jpg

I rigged up 2 of my UFO LED highbay lights to use for work light until I got power into the new shop.

Having ready access to everything in the old shop was a game changer.

One thing to note on the doors. In the planning stage I came across a picture of a garage door with the door track running parallel with the inside roof pitch, when I saw the picture I said to myself: that's what I want in the new shop. The online form from Home Depot offered the angled tracks at no extra charge. Its not really a big deal, but when the doors are open and up it does give the sense of a more "open" space.

There are different types of overhead door tracks for metal buildings. They have a different weather strip system instead of the applied residential seals. The panels are the same and what you have will work fine. But there is a different product for metal buildings for those thinking of doing a similar building.

Hmmm, I was not aware of that. Clopay did have the option for "metal frame install".

I did order the doors with extra wind struts and they are injection insulated. Everything seems to be working really good.

The overhead door installer did not mention anything and he was a pro overhead door installer.

I have one Liftmaster Jackshaft opener installed and I really like it, the MyQ option is nice and I can open the door with my phone which is convenient, also tells me the door status (open or closed and what time).

Just tryin to do the best I can with the tools I got out here in Montucky. :bounce:

Installed a 100 amp panel and learned a bunch with the help of my electrician friends at work. I was lucky in the fact that the total main wire length feeding the panel was only 33'

Here is the electrical plan layout (after revision 12) lol :)

Fun stuff! I like the electrical part of construction.

The lights I used are Adiding LED High Bay Warehouse Lights: 19500 Lumens

For light control I used 3 Lutron Powpaks: RMJS-8T-DV-B (the green box on top of the steel junction box) The small black wire controls the dimmer function (its low voltage) Lutron Powpak info link here.

For switches: 3 Lutron Pico wireless switches: PJN-3BRL-GWH-L01

Added a Lutron Motion Sensor: LRF2-OWLB-P-WH

The shop has 3 - 20ft X 30ft bays, each bay has 3 UFO LED lights, each bay is controlled by a Powpak and switch with dimming capability.

I friend of a friend did a lighting study based on my floor plan layout. What a great guy, he sent me a square footage light study and suggested the controls (I was going to use flip switches) all for nothing. I begged him to let me pay but he insisted it was no big deal. After that the wife baked both the friend, and the lighting study friend an awesome key lime pie! What great people :)

The lighting really came out good, and I am really happy with it.

There have been quite a few issues with the Liftmaster controller, just FYI. Nothing wrong with the openers themselves.

Thanks for the info! Now at least if things go wacky I will know where to start. No big deal to solder in some replacement capacitors.

Nice job!! I love the big open steel structure.

Yes, I agree. Most everything inside has wheels and the more time I spend inside the more I want to make sure most everything is movable on casters of some sort. If I do install something "permanent" some deep thought will be involved.

Looks awesome red! Great work. Can you provide details on the wainscoting? I'm looking for something very similar. Did they precut them where you bought them? What about the upper and lower brackets. Any and all details would be much appreciated. I can't see any fasteners in the pics.
Thanks!

Looking at your pics brought back memories of the year I spent putting up my 40X50 steel building.

The two things I remember most are the metal nibbler pieces that I couldn't seem to get out of my boots and how much that insulation ***** when it's 90 degrees and humid outside. I'm sure the fiberglass is still in my lungs. But your right there is a feeling of accomplishment afterward that makes it all worth it.

Anyways the building looks great, congrats!

Gettin ready to warm up the 69 Roadrunner soon.
One of the reasons I built the shop.

Thanks!

I used Home Depot Corrugated Steel Roof Panel in Galvalume

I cut it to length with a 4 1/2" grinder thin disk (you can cut 6 sheets at a time at least.)

The bottom and top cap are Home Depot Galvanized Steel J-Trim

I started with 5/8" and finished with 1/2" (half the cost and you cant tell the difference).

The walls are 3' and the bench back is 1'.

Turned out great and I really like it.

Love the old Farmall M helping out, hope it get to stay inside now?

Heck ya, she don't start too good at -27F (this morning)
Capture3.jpg

Any reason why you didn't use roll up doors instead?

Not really, I went with the panels because they are injected insulated R18. I am just not familiar with rollups.

I did not show how I did the walls (studs) or the wainscot attachment. Here are some pics

Shop 62.jpg Shop 61.jpg

Shop 63.jpg Shop 64.jpg

Shop 66.jpg Shop 67.jpg

I used 2" screws to attach the wainscot, I drilled each hole lined up with a stud, easy to crinkle the metal or overtighten which looks like **** with a big dent at the screw. Tighten just enough to snug to the wall.

Thanks, nothin but hard work!

I really like what you've done with the wainscoting and the workbench. Great job!

Thanks, appreciate that.

Very nice build! I want a 40'x60' someday....good that you pulled the trigger after thinking next year, next year!...you're now getting it done!
Helps that you don't have permitting issues in Montana.

40' X 60' would be awesome, it's just money right? Do it!

Yes, I really am happy without the permit requirements here in MT.

What a PITA... Washington state. I was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, lots of wants and needs there! :headscrat

Added some toolboxes to the bench, I also ordered a label maker to organize the drawers.

Running a Rapid Air system with Milton Hi-Flow fittings, these are cool, 70% more air flow from a 1/4" quick connect air fitting.

If you’ve got the space, move the racks a bit further apart and you can bridge between them with 8’ beams and gain an additioal bay. Don’t know, but 6’ beams may be available too.

Just checked, they are available, but you would need to verify the style. Try shelving.com.
