30s Indestro Duro Chrome 678D with Unusual Handle

It seems like there are very few of these around with this handle, do you know what year these were made or anything about them? I fell in love with the design. Also wondering the best way to clean inside (if I should) and oil.

Cannot disassemble those. I usually will soak the heads in atf for a couple days before trying to turn them.

I have one of those indestro closed heads with a different handle. Only works one way. Maybe soaking it in ATF will help. Thank you.

One of those ratchets was included with a D-I socket set I recently picked up off of eBay. I asked Indestro expert four.cycle his thoughts on the ratchet and he thought that those were sold through Wards or Western Auto. WD40 worked wonders with mine.

^ Yes. As near as I have been able to determine, that handle design was a private-label unit made for Wards.

They seem to have come marked and unmarked, as wards master quality, wards riverside, wards chromium vanadium.

There are a number of different iterations of that particular model (pressed flange ratchet - patent 1902878) in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive.

As near as I have been able to determine from poring through thousands of Ebay listings, that rounded "paint brush handle" model was sold through Montgomery Ward:



The "squarish" handle with the elongated depression may or may not have a name forged into it:

That is a thread of great interest with a ton of information. The link BK provided is the first time I was made aware of it. I believe that it is another that should be moved to the vintage tool discussion. If there is no objection, I will suggest that move to the moderators.
