First of all, thanks for posting your build on this thread. While I was on the hunt for the design of my garage build, I came across this one and immediately said "This is the one". I will be starting my build in late spring or early summer - can't wait!!

I really like your roof pitch, so I was just wondering if you stuck with the pitch in the plans you posted (16/12 for the lower and 5/12 for the upper) or if you ended up going with something else?

I was also curious about your LVL beam. Was there a specific reason you didn't go with a bigger size to reduce the number of posts?

Thanks!

Wow, its been a long time since I updated this thread. I will try to get some new pics up soon.

The roof pitches are indeed the planned 5/12 and 16/12.

The LVL beam was sort of an afterthought. The original plans did not include it or the posts, but the architect's design was wrong. It wasn't until the lumberyard caught it that he realized the span for the i-joists was too large, and the proper joists would be like 30" or something. I was disappointed, but don't really mind the posts too much based on how I use the space. It is nice to have outlets on them near the center of the floor space (though overhead drops would be better).

Thanks for the kind words.

I don't know how i missed this thread, but I want to say....I Love It!!!!!

I'm also envious of any garage with a tall ceiling  Everything that you have done, looks fantastic. The little shed or the big "barn", both look great. And it's great that you have a neighbor that is willing to help out

Great looking place, and the surrounding countryside looks great too.

OK, here are a few update pictures. I added some cabinets over the workbench along the south wall (and the workbench about 9 months ago- not sure if I showed that earlier):

And the sink with cabinets over it. The doors for all of these are just plywood with sliding closet door tracks. Cheap and easy.

And one on the north wall, I started some upper cabinets. These will get a top shelf and doors eventually, and there will be 4 more similar next to them.

Upstairs, I finished the wall of built-in bookshelves (with sliding sections to hide the TV):

The office got a black-and-white paint job on the OSB floor (was going to be temporary, but it actually looks good and is holding up well. Still some trim work to do here, and I'm iffy on the bookshelf door now. I didn't really plan well for it, and I'm not sure I can fit it in seamlessly.

Some built-in desks for the kids in the corners:

And a little bar/fridge area

Unfortunately, not really. The update is that I finished the bookshelves (about 6 month ago) I did decide on a rolling library ladder (had been debating some kind of built-in alternating tread stairs). I don't really want to buy, so I am thinking about how to make one. So the nook is there, but pretty much inaccessible:

It’s been a long time since I posted, but here are a few updates. Finally finished the library ladder. The fridge/bar area. Outside night shot.
