Wow, I think you made the right choice and got a great deal in clearing that off!
I would suggest that you raise the floor by more than 6" though... it is of course impossbke to tell grades from pictures, but you should leave yourself some room to grade up to the building when making your swales. In any case, your floor should be at least 6 in above the dirt on the outside - so this would mean your swale is all cut down from your current grade if all you have is 6 in to work with...?
Don't skimp on getting high and dry for the cost of some gravel. You also need the drive sloping up to the building for 6 or so feet... give yourself some height to play with.
And don't forget the snow banked up in the winter, it too wants some grade to flow away as it melts.
