Knix, awesome build. Noticed the ITC truck. You work for them? I work for one of the bigger electric utilities in SE Mich. I worked with ITC a few times on some MAT switching. Where about are you at.... My parents are in Grayling. Take care... and great build.

Nice, youll enjoy the heck out all the space!

One thing that looks like you might wanna check into is the small valleys created where the new roof meets the existing. Looks like they just layed the new roof on top of the existing and didn't create an actual valley.

How tall are your garage doors? Also, how tall are the side walls under the eves?

And last but not least, whats the roof pitch?

I am just trying to get a perspective as this is alot of what I want my shop to be like.

Thanks!

Nice work. Are the walls 12' on a 1' block stub? Did you have someone do the drawings for you?

10x10 and 12x10. my side walls are 16'. i put a 3' kick on my trusses to give my bonus room a bigger knee wall. my bonus room walls are 5'9"
my roof pitch is 6x12. same as my house.

yes. interior height is 13'3". i did my own drawings. i took drafting back in high school so it wasnt that hard. just time comsuming.. worth it in the end though. i was the general contractor also. helped save a bunch of money in the end

How are you planning to heat this nice place?

in the winter id like to pull my jeep in on the trailer instead of unloading it outside. other than that no real reason
Nice work!

I dream of that kind of elbow room :)

well its been a little while and i haven't updated it in a little while. i have the down garage area walls all insulated. R-21 batts. also i started framing in my bar area upstairs. its going to be 28x16. with a 4x8 bathroom and a full wet bar. my plumber started working on it tonight. also i will have a 16x16 storage area. also out the back area of my bar i put in french doors with a 12' header for a deck in the spring. i will be hanging interior steel after hunting season around here. here is some pics.

had to offset the door a little bit to clear the stairs.

there is a steel entry door going at the top of the stairs to keep all the garage smells out.

thanks! the progress is slow. the plumbing is almost done. going to make the final tie in tomorrow and pressure test it. i am having a full wet bar up top as well as a bathroom like stated before. i will have both hot and cold water in my garage to wash cars in the winter and that. also putting a wash tub in my smaller garage. needless to say its a little work. i also since hung all my insulation on the walls. i am hopefully hanging steel on the walls and ceiling in the next two weeks. once that is done i will have heat. i am using blow in insulation for the ceiling.

here is some progress pics

Knixon804,

I have a few questions for you. I am expanding my shop sometime soon and I really like your truss design. Do you have anymore information on them? Are they 2' on center? I thought I counted 25 in your stack of them. Since I am in Maine we should have similar snow loads. Do you know what the allowable load on the bonus room floor is? The shop looks great, keep us updated and sorry for all the questions.

When we did the metal on our walls, the guy we ordered it from suggested we have it reverse rolled. This put more of the flat out on the finished side so that when you put a bench up against the wall it only recessed where the screws where in the ribs. It works great. Just a thought. Hopefully that is clear.

The siding inside the garage is a brilliant idea. Any close up pictures. I am building a similar garage next spring. I am impressed by the work so far.

How can I learn how the interior metal is fastened to the studs/framing ???

What are pros/cons of using the metal interior skin versus traditional sheetrock.

Show detail of where dark and light colored metal come together....trim ???

Thanks

Looks great! I wish I would have built a bonus room above my shop.

I have one question. Not just for you, but everyone who does it.
Why have a "short" door?? You can always fit short vehicles in a tall opening. Doesn't work the other way around.

Still a bitchin pad though!!!

Can we get a Panasonic picture of the house and shop together. Would love to see size of the shop, in comparison to the house, from the outside now that the exterior is done.

Thanks

I fured my walls out with 1x4 boards. I chose steel because im going to be washing cars in there so u can get the walls wet also. As for trim i just used exterior z channel for the transition. The amish custom bent all my trim for the windows n doors. They did an awesome job. Here are some pics

Looks great but why not run the electrical on the inside of wall behind the sheetmetal?

because it would be a pain in the A$$ to cut out the metal for electrical boxes and also when placing boxes before steel you run the chance of hitting a rib. i used to be a residential electrician so im pretty good at bending. its an art!

Make sure the compressor room has plenty of ventilation or it can overheat
