I'm getting ready to start my garage. I've been planning this build for the past three years and am finally getting around to starting. I plan on building most of it myself as I get time. I'll have a mason lay the block and brick. I plan on digging the footing some time in the next few weeks. As I build I'll post pictures. I hope everyone enjoys it.

I had to move the shed to the other side of the pool to make room for the garage. I thought that we would be able to pick up one side with the two tractors, but it was way to heavy. We ended up doing the tried and true way with pipe as rollers.

I started laying out the batter boards last weekend, but the wind was so bad it blew my transit tripod down when I was getting ready to set it up. I got a good deal on some 12/2 MC Lite wiring. I've never used it before anyone know of a good book that shows how to wire up boxes and what connectors to use?

I was able to get the last two batter boards up today. The plan is to lay out the batter boards Monday morning and paint the lines for where I have to dig the footings. I'll post some pictures tomorrow of the batter boards up.

Hope the weather cooperates for you the next few weeks or at least until it's out of the ground. Roughly the same size as my shop project. Good luck.

Got the foundation laid out today thanks to my neighbor who helped out. I'm all set to start digging the footings. The bad news is the hybrid brake system just broke and ford wants $3,300 to fix it. I'll put the axle and speed sensor in myself. There's an electric brake actuator that also needs to be replaced. I'm not sure how to bleed it, anyone know how to do it?

I was able to get the axle and speed sensor installed in the fusion today before it got dark. I spoke with another ford dealer in NC and they said they could fix it for $1300. Makes we wonder how the price from one dealer to anther can be so far apart.

Got a late jump on working on the garage. Got the bucket on the backhoe changed to the bigger one to start the footings. I started digging the footings, but It was getting dark when I started so I only got a little done. The weather is going to be good all week so with some luck I'll get the footings done after work.

I got the footing poured this morning. Ended up being around 8 yards. I ended up having a little left over so I poured a pad in front of the pool shed. Of course it started raining as soon as I poured the pad. I'm still working the pad so I will post tomorrow once I see the finial product. Sand mortar and the brick are coming Friday. The mason is going to try and squeeze me in next week some time to do the block and brick.

I got a bunch done this week. We were able to squeeze the block work in between the rain. We had a sunny day today and got most of the brick laid. They should finish all the brick tomorrow.

All the brick is done. The mason returned today and washed everything down. I stuck the cars in the garage to get a feel for the size of it. I was able to get the three cars, truck and tractor in and still have room for another 2 or 3cars.

Looking good so far. I love the space you have to put up a shop that size. Glad you didn't get much snow down there. We had a few inches up here.

The truss truck got stuck. I hooked the little John Deere up and pulled it out. Didn't think it would do it.

Got a lot done today. The crane showed up this morning. We were able to get all the trusses set in about 2 1/2 hrs. Started putting down the sub floor. We should get the roof sheathed tomorrow.

Hi red.
I was wondering the way how you guys make your foundations. What I mean by that, is how you don't excavate the surface soil out of the foundations area before you cast the slab. And I have understand that you don't use heat/frost insulators under the slab, instead you put some kind of ground building fabric and concrete reinforcement on top of the fabric and cast on it the slab ?. Doesn't there have not ground frost in winter time at all ?.
I am wondering that because in the first pic, if I am not mistaken, I see little bit of frost on the grass near the foundation.
First when start to read your thread and I saw your pics, I thought to my self that "what the hell kind of airplane hangar he is building ?", then I did compare your garage measurements to my own and I did realize that yours is not after all that enormous compare to mine garage, it is only few feet larger but compared to the men who are standing there, it looks like enormous.

May I ask how much you think that your project will be costing when it is finished ?, just for the comparison how much is the difference building that kind of garage in the US and how much it would cost here in finland. My total estimate for my own project is about 35-40.000 € which equals 38-43.000 $.

Another great day. The weather was sunny in the 70s. Got the roof sheathed and some more framing done. I think we should finish up the framing tomorrow and might me able to start laying out the shingles.
