The nice part of this one being a fiber laser is I can take the head off the stand and "take it" to the piece to be marked so I could easily mark undersides of larger pieces etc. So long winded answer....yes I do intend to start marking any "nicer" things I make with some sort of initials/name and date combo. I'll start be putting some more "permanent" ID marks on my tools that are in the work truck/toolbag
Yeah....wife wasn't around....1 box of thin mints stayed in the garage....the other went in the house.....she made a comment that she was impressed I didn't open them last night....almost felt guilty for the unearned praise as the box in the garage definitely was opened!
Wife went down this morning to find a stool moved and the box of GS cookies we opened yesterday missing. Boys aren't confessing.

They are both well into adulthood now but I had one of each type. The younger one still lies with a perfectly straight face, she never figured out that I always find out!
One of the great things about 3d printing is the speed to fix up your f*up's....I mean how fast it allows you to "rapidly iterate"
Like when you're working to make a more useful base for a cheap rotary axis such as this:
With a goal to make the base larger to give more clamping area and just overall stability without clamps, as well as raise the centerline up so you can clamp up larger tumblers/mugs without use of scraps....you can do this:
And then "rapidly iterate" to a more useful dimension from that pivot point hole to the swing arc.....managed to dimension the value from that hole center to arc center off around 3/8" of an inch...but hey it printed pretty well

You might as well get one now. Its a purchase you wont regret. I use mine all the time for shop stuff and have found so many prints for things I want that I havent even had to learn CAD yet.
Just buy the Bambu X1 and be done with it. With all the projects you do you will find all kinds of things you can print.

Made it down to the farm to visit some family....had an itch to do something so swapped buckets on the skidsteer and cleaned up some tree limbs in the yard:
Played "Uber farm version" helping move things around. Planting corn right now which means in addition to the tractor in the field, there is a "nurse trailer" to refill the fertilizer tanks on the planter with, for larger fields a liquid tanker to refill the nurse trailer and then a seed truck for seed....its as much a logistics business at times as it is a weather guessing business

So again a logistics event trying to keep in mind you don't fill the nurse trailer full from the tanker just before needing to move fields.
Saw this online on Marketplace and thought it was cool, my brother works with a retired Army EOD(bomb disposal) guy and thought he might like it....if so great. If not I gave 10 bucks and one sold on Ebay for 50 so if I get tired of it I can easily rehome it

Its definitely that time of year, most here are 2/3 or more planted. Almost need a rain day to spread it out a little.

We were rained out Sunday and Monday till about 3pm....then got back at it. Looks like more coming on Wednesday so see if we can get to the 1/3rd complete mark before it hits.
And yeah....it's a cool "computer"! If I didn't already commit it to my brothers coworker I'd be keeping it! Story on it was the sellers dad was a B-52 navigator in the 60's and this was his. I've got a neighbor who used to fly B-52's but has moved to a more civilized plane (one with bathrooms) so going to ask him if he's seen it in the archives

Minor welding project for a colleague, 3/8" plate steel with an M12 x 1.75 stud on the plate to allow the thin wall tube umbrella holder post to attach to the base. Over time that stud has rusted down to be no longer viable...so a very ugly weld job with my little buzz box on a bolt after grinding off the prior stud will hopefully make this last another 5 years. Did figure out after the fact that one of the connections for switching polarity in the welder was loose and the wrong drive roller was installed....the little project reminded me I enjoy the metal projects as well...damn I need a bigger space though lol.
Sprayed a new coat of flat black on it to blend in well with the sun faded original paint....back in the truck to return tomorrow and get it out of my space.
New fiber laser is progressing slowly....they're shipping me a new column that runs the head up/down for focus. Its a motorized up/down....which doesn't go up/down when I press the button which is a minor detail. I'm watching lots of videos on youtube for the software.....haven't burned much in the last week though. Trying to get the C02 laser back in operation, mirror alignment is kicking my ***.....not sure if something got jacked in the move almost 5 years ago now or the tube is bad.
As for general shots...I got it a bit more cleaned up this morning....really need to finish up the air compressor project so I can get it up on the shelf and off the bench. Needs a new circuit pulled for wire but If I recall I did the work and put the box in already...also has an air leak in a hose reel I need to get fixed.

How are those invisible blades working out on the miter saw? Do they have much tear out or produce much sawdust?
I've been lusting for the Bosch miter saw for years, but while I know it would expand my abilities over the crappy Craftsman 10" single bevel saw I have now...it's hard to justify. Once or twice a year Menards have them on sale for $549 plus 11% off and it always seems like I've just made another major purchase, or one is on the horizon and I have to say no!

The kerf is so small it's almost invisible! Grain matched joints are perfect! Lol
I love the saw, but it's just too big for what I'm needing and haven't brought myself to sell it yet. I really should sell it...it got removed from the permanent miter workstation over a year ago and haven't needed to turn it on since. I got it when I was residing my Iowa house...2012 ish??? It was great for cutting the LP SmartSiding, but for rough cuts I'm usually using the circular saw, finish cuts get the tracksaw or Miter gauge/crosscut sled on the tablesaw
If I had the room, I would keep it or be tempted to down size to the 10" version.
I have a lot of stuff I need to downsize....maybe this should be the start!

The infamous 10lbs in a 5lb sack, I know it well.
Bingo! I really wanted to get rid of the base....but just couldn't do it so made a spot for it....thank goodness it wasn't especially heavy as the awkward factor was high enough already getting it up there.
Also reminded me again fighting the garage door opener (and having to move the box holding the new one) I need to get that side mount opener installed on the single door.

Lol. I have a 3x3x6 steel moulder base outside leaning against my garage door, with a cyclone stand currently disassembled and laying inside it.
This is honestly one of the benefits of being in suburbia instead of the small acreage....I can't let me natural tendancies to chase "great" deals on stuff and know I can "stick it out back" be a solution to where do I put it.

That was one of my major irritations of surburbia, beyond traffic and people. If i had more acreage I'd just put/push all in one of the back fields.. I miss the ability to do that. Nothing huge 100-200 acres would be plenty.

Definitely haven't felt like we've had our proverbial "ducks in a row" the last couple weeks with some of the things we've been dealing with in the extended family that's sucked up our time...our son is helping out though by keeping his toys in a row at least
Weekend got warm enough to crack open a shandy while the kids were playing
And got the new laser up and running again with a new motorized column arriving from the manufacturer. Original one has an issue with the button where it wouldn't go up/down, new one works as expected. I'll probably try and pop the button open on the original and see if I can just put in a new momentary toggle switch and then have a spare or more likely something that sits on a shelf for years until I throw it away at which point it'll be needed but not before. Tried out the laser on some coasters...worked nice...now back to some other projects I've got backed up and then learning the rotary part for round things

Been needing to feel like I accomplished something on the house...so mothers day flowers it is.
Some roses used to be here...but decent sized fairly empty bed right in front of the house
Playing more and more with chatGPT trying to figure out where it can make my life better. After some prompt revisions at least got here
It really has struggled with getting the flower beds the right size and the right location of the house elements..and that's with me uploading drawings and pictures...but the renders are good quality...just maybe not accurate lol.
Bonus points for the plant afficionados who catch the numerous errors in the AI labeling and spelling lol

Some raking of mulch, tilling up to break things up and stir in the bought dirt then dropping stuff in place
Planted and added the border
Then started digging out the existing plants in the bed on the other side of the sidewalk
The kids did pretty well helping
Momma was surprised and happy when she got home from work so call that a win

We did some similar stuff in our beds yesterday. 52 bags of mulch is the number that covers all the beds and areas at our place
Now I just need to repaint the shutters.

LOL ironically he's messing up the most recent line of Paw Patrol toys right now while "mopping" with the Swiffer mop lol. The coasters were a hit and turned out pretty well. This is an example of where chatGPT actually helped. I found the image online of the set, saved it then uploaded it to AI and asked it to generate a vector drawing of the artwork. I had a few minor tweaks/revisions I had it do but in the course of probably 2 minutes I had ready to go artwork I could directly import into the laser software.
@nicholam77 You're in the graphic/video design/editing type space....is AI actually helping you on any of your stuff? The marketing gal at our office has the newest photoshop and playing with it asking it to remove or insert people into images is pretty funny...sometimes it works great...othertimes....yeah it highlights it's not ready to take over yet.
Oh trash trucks are a big favorite here too...his best morning is when we go to school and he can find at least 2 "yellow bussy's" and a trash truck or two. Finding the busses is pretty easy...trash trucks can be more elusive!

Seeing all the mulch makes me wish I would do rocks everywhere! We have rocks around the house in the back yard but haven't done it in the front....but the annual(or if i'm being honest every other year exercise) of redoing it makes me rethink rocks all the time
The bed of the Chevy has about a yard of playground mulch in it right now I picked up end of the day on Friday. Been 3 years since I put the playset in and that took I think 8 yards and it's getting thin in some spots so hoping with a couple bed loads I can make it look more presentable. Hoping to back it up to the playset here this afternoon and shovel it all out then will see how far it goes....I expect I need at least 1 more load but the mulch place is only 5 or so miles away so it's not worth it to get a trailer.

Little more progress this morning. Reviewed the thought of taking out 2 of these boxwood shrubs/bushes with the wife prior to doing it. She agreed that they should go and the others needed some significant haircuts so I trimmed them up after the root killer spade helped dig them out
With the stuff on the side and the remaining one trimmed back....some more room for some color to get filled in the bed
I've been trying to make this as low of maintenance as possible so everything planted so far has been perennials but we might drop in some bright colored annuals here in the curved corner for some additional color. Couple of local rabbits are going to try and spoil that so I'm going to need to make sure my "precision lead based hole punching device" is charged up and ready to go
Guessing it's not going to be a small project....so just have the local landscape supply place deliver in bulk! Around here 3 yd minimum gets you free delivery within about 10 miles 1 way...a yard of died stuff is usually around $35/yd....natural color is usually closer to $30/yd, the playground mulch I just got which is screened to smaller sizes was $42/yard. My 1/2 ton Chevy with the 6' bed or whatever that size is fits about a yard....your white beast assuming 8' bed could likely get 2 yards if you heaped it and tarp it.
But if you've got a project of any size...and with the tractor...having them dump a truck in a handy location then just scooping out of it and placing it will make it super easy!

Dang! I just double checked and I was a bit low on dyed but high on natural lol
3 places, natural was all 28 to 30/yrd
Dyed was 41 to 46, one place had higher price for red than for black and brown.
One place also had a natural color "single grind" which I had never noticed for $12/yd...might have to see what that looks like next time I need to do the dead space on the backside of my fence.
