I for one do not believe in abusing tools never the less sometimes a job has to get done.

Yesterday i was changing the brakes on my truck. (96 f150) all the bolts on the left rear. were put on by some idiot who prorbaly spent 15 minutes holdiong down the trigger on an impact the wouldn't budge with mine. Got my breaker bar out put socket on the end and a 2 ft cheater bar. pull yanked tugged and finally put my shoulder into it. socket EXPLODED for lack of a better word and i went teeth first into the street 4 stitches to my lip.

Is this abuse obviously by the cheater bar right do you think cman will warrantee the socket??? and lastly ever seen anything so goulish

Here's another reason why I'm the only one who works on my vehicles. You never know what ****** is going to torque your lug nuts to 800ftlb.

What kind of socket was it? 12 point or 6? shallow or deep?

Been there done that. I was prying a rusted-on rim off of a brake drum and when it went loose -BAM- it pushed the pry bar through my bottom lip.

I've heard of chrome sockets shattering like that.

Sears should warranty it, just don't tell them how it happened. Just tell them you were using a craftsman breaker bar and this is what happened. They will probably feel bad about your lip and won't even question the socket!

one thing i learned early on was to take a look at what/where will happen if something breaks.

ive busted mya$$ more than once when bolts broke, tools let go, or sockets slipped off.
probably the worst time was a broken chain on a large root rake, when the rake hit the floor it rolled back towards me hitting me square in the chest.

luckily just 3 broken ribs and a lot of bruises, might hve been much worse if it had happened 5 seconds earlier, i was standing between the rake and the front tire of the loader......

That was my first thoughts exactly when I read 4 stitches in the lip!

I had a Cman 1/2 breaker bar fail on me on time when I was trying to get an oil drain plug loose on a Cat 3406. I had a decent cheeeter bar on it,not too long though, i was under a pete 379. When that thing snapped it sent a piece of the bar flying 60' down the shop and dented the overhead door!! luckily no peeps or equipment were in the way, that woulda been a lip buster for sure.

we had the oil changed on the road somewhere and they must of used the 1" impact to put that drain plug in,because that is what it finally took to get it off. luckily the pan was OK, but we did throw out that plug, JIC.

but sears did replace the tool. I did not mention that we were using a cheater pipe on it.

yet another reason to do your own service's........

I had my 3/8" gearwrench rachet with the appropriate 6 point socket (i beleive it was a 15mm but its been a while) got under the car and turned the ratchet. Nothing not even a budge And those gearwrench flex heads are long!

Took the ratchet off and made sure that i had it turning the bolt to the left. i did so i tired again and again. Both hands all my might nothing. My dad becoming more worried that I was going to hurt myself told me to forget it and we would take it to an oil change shop. "**** NO IVE ALREADY GOT IT JACKED UP AND ON STANDS IM DOING THIS!" I scream and I get the idea to hold the ratchet on the bolt with my left hand and bump the handle with my right and boom off it comes WTF!

Damn kids at jiffy lube must have put that thing on there hella tight or someone got a new impact for x-mas because I have never ever! had one that tight before. Not on a car anyways Granted thats not as tight as mobettas but still its a drain plug it doesent need to be tightened till it smokes then backed off 1/4 turn

Those kids at Jiffy lube are a bunch of retards! I just did an oil change on a car I just got, last change was done at retard lube, and I realized they put red threadlock on the drain bolt. I used a 1/2 inch ratchet and got nowhere, so I took out my 24" MAC breaker bar to get the damn thing off. Then their oil filter was tightened down with a filer wrench or something, because I had to remove the wheel, and have me and my dad work together with a channel lock to get the damn thing off

I was just at Sears in the tool department the other day, I also did not see anything that says Craftsman that was made in China. So which tools or sockets is everyone referring to? I did see some off brands there also, but they did not say C'man.
So please enlighten me on which ones are made off shore.

Did you go to the Sears at Ocean County Mall? I did notice they are carrying all the made in China full polish "professional" wrenches. I'll be very upset if I have to warranty my USA sockets for some Chinese paper weights. Good luck with the stitches man.

Tool abuse? Wow, a 1/2" drive socket should be able to handle a 2 foot breaker bar. People have ratchets that long it's not like you had the floor jack handle on it.

Glad you're OK, that could've been quite the dental bill.
