I was bidding on a job and was offered this Yamaha Blaster for a C-Note. The motor turns over, transmission seems okay, tires are good and the plastic is all intact. I got the job and brought yet another project home....the wife just shook her head.

It cleaned up pretty good with just a hose. Now to tear it down and get to work...

Thanks, I figure its worth a lot more than that even if I just part it out but the plan is for it to be a pasture terror.

He also has a very retro 3 wheeled Swisher riding mower that has a steel tractor seat and steering wheel that has a blown motor I have my eye on. It looks like a mini Farmall and its probably from the late 50s or early 60s...looks like a perfect candidate for a resto with one of those Chinese Honda clone motors.

I've had a few blasters in the past.. Tons of fun and stupid easy to work on, parts are also cheap and plentiful.

With these little 2 strokes, you just got to get used to pressing the gas and you get nothing - nothing - and GO!

The oil pumps go out in these, but it looks like the oil tank has already been removed from under the rear fender, so just premix it.. Riding wheelies would starve the oil feed when the level was low as well, better off without it.

For reference if you haven't had blasters before, a banshee rear axle is a direct fit and widens the rear about 3-4 inches, and most people flip the front wheels which will widen the track up front. Cheap mods that make the stance a bit more stable.

They feel faster than they are, but are nimble and lightweight you can use your *** to steer it which is fun.. These love to rev and hate putting along, keep it wound up and screaming.. It's no 250R but is still, well, a Blast! :)

The new body style 03+ is just a new nose/headlight and front disc brakes, both are a direct fit if you grab the parts off ebay. The front drums on the old ones don't work very well and once they are wet they pretty much don't do anything..

I see complete, running blasters in good shape sell for $700-$1100ish, the new body style can get a quite a few hundred more if its super clean..

Have fun!!

Thanks for the tips. I noticed the oil tank being gone too and its all been plugged up so he was running pre-mix which is fine with me. I am looking forward to getting it up and running, the more I look at it the more I see its in really good shape, not even a tear in the seat and virtually no rust. We have over 20 acres of pasture, woods, and trails to have fun on.
