40 million Kidde fire extinguishers recalled:
The problem is that the units can become clogged or “require excessive force to discharge” and leave you helpless during a fire emergency, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday. (November 2, 2017)
There have been 391 reports of problems and the consequences can be fatal: One person died in a car fire in 2014 when first responders couldn’t get the recalled Kidde fire extinguishers to work, the CPSC notes. In all, the agency has received reports of 16 injuries, including smoke inhalation and minor burns, and 91 reports of property damage.
November 2, 2017 - In conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kidde announced a recall to replace certain Kidde fire extinguishers. The replacement program was initiated because certain fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to activate, posing a risk of failure to discharge. In addition, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard. The product recall involves two styles of Kidde disposable fire extinguishers: plastic handle fire extinguishers and plastic push-button fire extinguishers.

I had three OLD Kidee extinguishers from the early 80's that were laying around the house, garage and car. As it turned they were eligible for the Recall. So I filled out the form on line, they acknowledged the extinguishers in question were indeed part of the recall. Volia, In less that 2 weeks, FedEx delivered brand new replacement extinguishers. Had I had to purchase the extinguishers, the cost would have been around $150.. So it is well worth finding those old extinguishers and see if they are eligible for the recall.
Kidde provides detailed instructions on how to return the extinguishers via FedEx, All you need to do is call the 800 number and FedEx will do the rest!
