Did you happen to see how they did the post? Did they just set them on a concrete cookie in the bottom and backfill with dirt?

It's a good idea to have the entrance in the middle like that. Now it's less likely to have junk piled up in between bays! Diggin the build for sure. How come no windows? Also have you decided on garage doors yet? Have you considered getting a glass section maybe one from the top to let in some natural light?

good thought about the junk not piling up! lol. i'm sure i'll still find a way.
i don't have a real problem in my area, but i'd rather keep prying eyes at bay. that's the reason for no windows.
the last set of pics show the garage doors.

Looks PERFECT. Can you advise for a newbie what a very rough $/sq ft a build like this goes?

thank you.
the building, doors (r15), and concrete was $25k. if i went with steel roof & siding it would've been $19k. if you went with 10x8 doors instead of my 12x8, that would save you even more.

Much appreciated. The next house we buy will have room for something like this, and I'll budget accordingly.

Well, it wasnt the ultra cool converted missle silo or concrete bunker I was hoping for, but a great build any way. I really like the color combo. Its amazing what hard work and a good system can accomplish. Keep us posted as you finish it out.

Very nice. I live up in Madison, Ohio (40-mins east of CLeveland on the shores of Lake Erie) and have been thinking about a garage build for 8-years. I have been working through all the pros and cons of Pole vs. Stick and haven't been able to make a decision and/or pull the trigger as something would come-up avoiding me of moving forward with the build (e.g., possible move, job issues, etc...). Seeing what the Amish put together for you really makes me think that a Pole barn just might be the way to go. Plus, I have the added advantage that I too have Amish very close by to assist in the build. Any chance you could post the ~estimated cost of your build and expland on any issues that you came across or would change if you had to do it all over again.

Thanks
T

insulation time! slow going on the garage (imagine that). i ran gas, water, and 100a service. jammed some r-30 in the ceiling. also, got a cl deal on some used 4 in eps foam. the stacks on the trailer are 8ft tall. lol.
