Love the build High quality work throughout. Love that you use your mini for …. everything!
Oh man, thank you for that compliment, I appreciate that. haha I don't have much choice in using these equipment a lot of the time when I'm moving stuff around, I fight my back like crazy. Haven't taken the best care of myself and at almost 42 I wake up feeling 80 haha! I moved those 7 8"x8" 16' cedar beams out of the way to install this lift and had to take a pain killer cocktail of pills to be able to sleep that night. But yeah that machine has saved my bacon, since I have a bad habit of never asking for help.

All wired up, adjusted and bled, she's working perfectly! Haven't loaded a car yet, late night of setup last night and coffee jitters this morning so time for chow!! This thing seems like a really nice unit though and operates smooth so far, I've cycled it several times and fine tuned the equalizer cables.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but aren't you on the peninsula somewhere? If so, I'm shocked at that snow! We haven't even come close yet to snow that sticks where I'm at.

Haha yea I am. I cheated though, I used old photos just for fun. Hopefully anticipating some snow after the first of the year. Just thought I'd pop on and say "hi"!

What did you end up with ceiling heights for your mezzanine and room above?
The shop has 18' walls, ceiling below the room on the shop floor is 9' to the bottom of the joists. The finished ceiling height in the upstairs room is roughly 8'. The attic trusses above that (6/12 pitch), allowed for a 15x12 room, and I think it's 7' height in the center but I'll have to measure to be sure.

I stumbled across this as I myself am looking to build a 40x60 tall shop with 1/3 of it a mezzanine. Fantastic job you did, can you clone it for me? 😁 The lot I was looking at this weekend (1.75 acres in central MA) has gotten a ton of interest from builders/flippers so I'll be passing on it. I've been looking for 3 years! A crazy market here.

Hi Jim, thank you! It's been a lot of time and work continuing to put the building together but I have really enjoyed it. I get a lot of family and friends over here too which has been the biggest blessing, we have fun in all kinds of things, and of course there's "bench racing" hahaha. Appreciate the compliments and glad you like it. If you have any questions about anything you see in the build let me know!

your El Camino looks amazing as does your huge garage and stuff. color me jealous!!

just an FYI since you have an El Camino have you seen Don Long's Party Garage postings of his 1970 he's restoring? he also has an El Camino thread somewhere too. in case you need ideas where to throw a bunch of cash he made a smugler's box in his bed that is kinda cool.

hope you have a great 2025!!!

Added a volleyball / pickleball / half-court basketball court on the backside, I'll wrap it up in the spring with hoop, net, fence and lighting. Can't seem to get pictures uploaded...
EDIT: got pics up below....

I guess the original file sizes were too big. Here's a few shots of the sport court I added behind the shop recently. In the spring, I'll install a 6' black chain link fence with a 4' or so man gate on each end, and an overhead lighting system that I have pre-wired. The kick-out in the middle of the long side by the block wall is where the half-court basketball hoop will be mounted. The hoop upright will serve as one net post, and the sleeve on the other side near the garage wall will be cut flush and that will receive a tall removable 4" square aluminum net post. I'll be able to have net heights for pickleball, badminton, and volleyball. The post sleeve is 2' embedded in the concrete, the post is 10'-6", so 8'-6" above ground.

I just have to decide if I want to run another brand hoop besides the Douglas system. They'll sell you the custom length net and net post if you choose to run another brand hoop. I think I'd prefer a 3' overhang vs their 4'.

Wow that is really nice, would be a joy to play on that with 3 other friends and no waiting between games. Yesterday I played 3 games in 2 hours time at a community center. It was crazy crowded!

I have had this old platen table for years. I was in an antique tractor and engine club and traded an old hit and miss engine for the slab itself. I had a pile of 5x5x5/16 angle iron around and built the base from that. It's been a great table and you can really do some heavy things with it. I bought the old Columbian vise from a member here and the combo is perfect.

As the market has become flooded with more modern fabrication tables, I've been getting interested in selling this one and getting something more versatile and where I can utilize a lot of the modern tooling that's available and affordable.

I've been looking into different brands of fabrication tables and reached out to a local guy I know with a small fabrication business about the table he was using. It had the standard 5/8" holes, spaced in and even grid every 2" on center, which has become pretty standard. Some companies are thick top, some are thinner with more support ribbing. I was pretty interested in the fireball tables which are thicker with larger diameter pin holes but they're pretty spendy.

This local guy had a 4x8 Certiflat table, made and sold through the weldtables.com site, part of the Tab and Slot parent company. They are 1/4" thick top, with 1/4" thick, 8" tall stiffeners located in an 8" grid pattern underneath. I was impressed how stout and how flat this table was with a straight edge. It's on 6 nice casters, and had 4 attachment "fab wings" which give it some nice mobility around the shop and versatility.

Long story short after chatting we simply decided to trade tables. He builds heavy equipment attachments as a business these days. He started out building gates and this table was great for that but he needed something heavier duty for his attachment work. I'm mostly just doing automotive and random projects so it made good sense for us both.

I've made a few changes, added clamp mounts, got the vise installed (luckily the bolt holes lined up) and got it cleaned up pretty good. Definitely happy with the platform and how I'll be able to put it to work.
