I eventually will insulate and add heat.
I will probaly use a propane unit, The reason I didn't consider infloor heating ,was that it takes too long to heat up and when a door is opened it takes too long to recover as I will not be out there as much in the winter.
It may not be the best solution, but it's just a personal choice and it's what I think will work for me.

Logical, HB, logical. Makes sense given your planned use. No critique intended BTW, just looking for folks thinking, which I find exceeds my own.

Thanks, Stan

Looks great. How many, what size and what type of lights did you install. Are they all on one switch. Keep up the good work.

I used a total of 18 T-8 light fixtures, 12 were 4' lithonia 4 bulb high bay lights (front and back rows) and 6 were 4' lithonia 4 bulb lights that I picked up from craigs list (center row).
I used 6500 daylight bulbs.
I may add some more as I have 9 left over from the craigs list buy, but it's pretty bright now.
They are on 3 switches.

Getting ready to build one the same size, that is a great looking garage! Why did you go with a shingle roof instead of metal? can't decide which one I'm going to use yet.

Beautiful building, great workmanship. It's terrible about some of the help we have to deal with these days, but it looks like you kept them well focused.:lol_hitti

The reason I went with a shingled roof:
I walked in Home Depot and a worker was putting up a sign "Shingles $5 a bundle" they were GAF 30 year. I asked what was wrong with them and he told me they were discontinuing this color. So I bought 3 skids (36 square) for a little over $500 My original plans were to have a metal roof, But being in the right place at the right time changed everything.

Great job on the design. I really like the porch, colors, and the two tone metal.

What is the spacing on the trusses and did you use 7/16 osb? Thanks

Getting ready to build a shop similar to yours. Was wanting to know the size of your porch roof and concrete under it? Great looking build!

Half, I just read this thread. Very nice space you've created for yourself; well done . I really like the floor appearance. It reminds me of the polished looking floors at Home Depot, Lowes, Costco etc. It is so glossy, it makes me think it might be somewhat slick

It can be slick at times, you just have to pay attention.
I like it because its easy to keep clean.
I also added a Bend Pak XPR-10ACX lift this weekend, still have to hook up the electric, had to stop to watch the game.
I'll post some pictures later.

very nice shop. my wife has told me (gotta keep her happy) that i can build a shop the same size as yours and put a hoist in it as well. i think she is looking at the supplemental income end of things as i am a licensed mechanic. i didn't even have to beg for the hoist. she is also telling me to get an alignment hoist and aligner.

I'm also a certified mechanic. I plan on retiring in a little over 2 years and will also supplement my retirement with a little side work.
It will be nice to walk out the back door to go to the shop.
It will also be great to be able to pick and choose what type of work I want to do.
Also I plan to finish a bathroom this spring as the plumbing for a sink and toilet has already been stubbed in.

a cure and seal, nothing expensive
Great looking shop. The shingle roof adds a nice homey touch to it.

I think the floors are great and it seems that it is simple to apply and foolproof. They actually look like they are polished from the photos.

Do you mind letting us know how much the Cure and Seal costs and how you purchased it? The website doesn't have any info on how to purchase it

Thanks

The cure and seal was ordered with the concrete and came on the first truck, I think it was about $80 per 5 gallon container, maybe less but not much if it was.
I don't mind answering questions again. I installed 18 total T-8 light fixtures, the front row and rear row fixtures are 4 bulb Lithonia high bay lights that were purchased at Home Depot, the center row are also Lithonia 4 bulb fixtures that I picked up from craig's list. All of the bulbs are 6500s. They are very bright and I probably won't add any more.
I have 9 more lights from the craig's list purchase that haven't been used. they will be saved for future projects, such as my restroom and office.

The colors of the metal. The upper metal is called Hickory Moss and the bottom and trim are Burgundy.
All of the siding and trim are manufactured by Fabral and was purchased through Carter Lumber.
All of the post in this build are 6x6. and all of the overhangs are 12"
The cost of the lift to my door was $2705, but I picked it up at the freight terminal in Cincinnati.
You can see the install of my lift by clicking on following link.

Nice build dude. Good to see people building their own stuff. Gives the rest of us schmoes encouragement to try it ourselves.

I like you planning ahead, buying sale items, yard sale picking, etc. You know, cause I'm cheap too.

Thanks for the comments, I'm pretty proud of my cheapness !!!
Still have some things I want to do to the shop, just taking my time and enjoying it.
Beavo, I live near Okeana, located about 10 miles west of Hamilton, 10 miles south of Oxford, close to the Indiana border.

It's called being frugal, or frugality. not cheapness. Awesome build ! :D

Very nice! I am thinking about doing a MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller version (6x12) attached to my garage instead of building a storage shed at my hosue. Any info on the man door or pics of it from the inside? Trying to figure out how that is framed in. What do you do for the wood on the bottom on the outside? Just backfill dirt to it? What about rot? Thanks!

Do you want pictures of the door framing or the framing of the porch?
The wood on the bottom of the outside is treated ground contact lumber, on the inside is concrete, the outside is backfilled with dirt.
