44" Mid Chest........ Problem Solved.....

Does anybody know of a place to get a 44" 2 or 3 drawer mid-chest? it can be a little larger, but no smaller. I can't find one anywhere. I Googled all night last night. I found tons of 26" ones. I need to add a little more tool storage in my work van.....:dunno:

Thanks

Craftsman/ waterloo offer a 1 drawer 40" mid box. Also SO has a two drawer mid box. That are all that I know off.

I saw he 40", but my upper box is 44". I think that would put to much pressure on the bottom, rather than the sides. I looked at Snap on, but did not see any thing 44". I'll look again.

Thanks

Good thought, but they are 12" deep, and my 44" box is 18. I thought of a lower chest, but they are too tall, to open the side doore and see into the upper drawers.....

Keep the ideas comming......

My two cents is to reevaluate what tools you carry. I have road tech for five years now. I work out of 12" deep 26" top and mid box. I keep some tools that came in nice plastic case in another side compartment but 95% of what I need fits in those 11 drawers. In those five years I have removed more tools then I have added.

I own a 44" HF top chest and I will say that it's not the best use of the volume available. It might not be the 'too much' as it is the container itself. In fact I would say many brands 26" deep top can probably fit as much as the 44" if not more, standalone.

I guess it depends on what you put in it, I wish mine had a full length shallow drawer or 2, but I have yet to find a way to really take advantage of all its space. I have considered getting a pair of 26 and a 40" mid single or double drawer from sears to replace it at home.

My problem is as a Forklift tech, I work on anything from a manual pallet jack which usually is just hammers, and long pin punches to change wheels, to 15,000 lbs cap. Turbo charged desiel, with everything from a 3/8 wrench/socket to a 2 1/2 socket/wrench, plus hammers, pry bars, crow bars, allens wrenchs, all pliers(I have all 5 sizes of Knipex ) and screw drivers, porta power, come along, gas air compressor, dewalt 18vt drill, grinder, 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 impact, dewalt 18vt grinder, gear pullers, bearing pullers, brake tools, full set of air tools..............

Then with Electric lifts, to the above add full electrical tools, plus propane tourch, solder, crimp on ends, butane soldering iron, small butane tourch for heat srink.....................

I travel 200 mile radius, and NEVER know what I'll work on next. I may not go to the shop for 2 weeks or more.

I'm not a IT guy that can carry a brief case of tools and have everything needed.

If I had not been buying tools since I was 8 years old, I'd be in a world of hurt, having to buy everything I would need all at once. Well actually, my Dad, every time, we would go to the auto parts store, would tell me to pick a tool off the "Any Tool, 1.99, 3.99, 6.99" sale tray, and he would buy it.

My 1st job was keeping gocarts working, a a rental track. I was 15, and furnished my own tools. Made a buck a hour. I'm 60 now.

BOY, this reply got long.......:eyecrazy:

K sweet! It doesn't come in red does it? I couldn't find anything on the website. I found the Waterloo one as well and it is in red, my box is also Waterloo. But it is in the $350 range.

I looked at the sears 40" for my HF stack but its way too tall. That unit should have 2 drawers in it instead, would be perfect for combo wrenches. Also they don't seem to sell the red one anymore.

Well, I figured out what to do with my problem......

The Craftsman / Waterloo single drawer was 41" and 188.00 + tax. Then I'd have to make a frame to enlarge it to fit my box.

So I sold my top box for 200.00 to the 1st person I asked. Then I got the HF 44" 13 drawer bottom chest normally 649.00 with a coupon out of a National Rifle Mag for 359.00. + tax.

So it cost me about 50 bucks less that 1 drawer would.

Can you believe it came with the casters installed, so I had to pull them off. With the wheels off I can still see in the top drawer, so it will work out fine.

Here you can see how much more room I will have.

Here it is in the van.

Thanks to all the members who offered help with my problem.
