Thanks for the tip.
I emailed the seller, we'll see.

I am in need of a good vise.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think Wilton ever manufactured the 1760 model anywhere but the USA.

I bought (and sold) a 1760 awhile back that did not have Made in USA cast into it. That doesn't mean that it was made in China. It might simply mean that -- like when Snap-On dropped the Made in USA from some of their tools -- they were opening the door to move production elsewhere.

I've never heard about any Wilton being made in China, except the Sears knock-off.

Hes right. Just because it doesn't say Made in USA in cast lettering doesn't mean otherwise. Ive got a Wilton 1645 in my shop that has nothing cast on the sides except the casting numbers. The only way to tell is the aluminum name plate that shows Wilton and made in USA. If that was gone, you wouldn't be able to tell at all

Which is funny, because mine came without the nameplate on it. So I made one.

On San Diego CL now,
"I have a Made In USA Wilton 3 1/2 combination vise. [It is a bullet style.]

Barely used (once or twice). It has been in storage for sometime now.

Make me a reasonable offer. These vises go for more than $1000.00 +."

The pics show a vise that has quite a few hash marks for being used 2wice. What's wrong with people?

You're welcome RCman.

Last year I bought a 3.5" Schiller Park Wilton Bullet from a guy in Concord for $25 and then a 4' Reed Utility from him again for $20. The Vises are out there guys- you just have to keep looking.

However I have yet to find the elusive 1hp Craftsman Block grinder.

That's a great vise no matter who made it. The only drawback is that replacement jaws with the 4" C-C are pricey.

Your talking about this one?

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/tls/4110074579.html

A couple of hours of hard use could do that. It certainly doesn't take much for the paint to come off.

There was a CL listing here last year. A guy was selling a new 1765 and was asking too much and naturally the listing kept getting republished. this went on for about 6 months. He was asking $495. I finally called him and offered him $250. He accepted it and I wound up buying 3 others he had plus 2 new 1780's and a C2 much like this one in appearance. Wait it out.

LOL! That is rough. IF the guy does a good restoration on it, I would be willing to pay him $100.

Pics of the $45 vise or it never happened! The suspense is killing me. Was it made in China or not? This is a real nail biter.
