Hello all,

Lurking for awhile as I researched for my building and got lots of great info from the site. Glad to be able to finally start my own build thread now that my project is underway.

I've planned for a few years on building a 48 X 32 with 10' walls and scissor trusses on half the building for a two post lift- with the other side having storage trusses.

I intend on the "lift" side to be more of a shop use for hobby restoration and the other side to be a "cleaner" side to be used to store the two Mustangs that currently occupy my attached 2 car. Not sure I will know what to do when I can actually use my garage for my daily drivers...

Anyway, if I've learned anything it's that you guys like pics, so here comes a few- hope to build on them as I go. Slab gets poured tomorrow and I am pouring an integral-dyed concrete for a little nicer look. Based on my research and use for the building I will be applying a densifier for dust control.

Thanks to everyone on the board for an excellent source of inspiration and information.

End of my driveway with initial building location outlined

Electrical service had to be moved temporarily (will be replaced with underground) and tree stump that had to be excavated

And facing the other side towards the elementary school next door

Footers dug- had to do a few levels due to drop

Footers poured:

Fast forward a bit- foundation block is in, brick in. Front of the building will be fully bricked as well

Plumbing is in and inspection complete

A small bit of fill and tamping left for pour tomorrow:

Enjoy- hope to have more updates tomorrow...

I had hoped to report a beautiful slab pour today, but suffice it to say it didn't go well. Jackhammer and slab removal pics may be forthcoming before week's end :-(

What the hell happened?!?!? Bad batch of concrete?? Who poured it for you?

Sorry for the cliffhanger- needed some rest after the bottle of wine it took to digest the new slab.

I am having the job overseen by a general contractor who had subcontracted the concrete to a local "crew". Apparently the "crew" didn't have enough help and got overwhelmed by the pour.

End result is a very irregular slab, water pools in several spots, and probably 10 or 12 spots where the surface is separated and the substrate can be scratched loose with your finger.

A few pics before it gets taken out- the contractor is standing good and has gotten a larger firm that is going to come in and clean up the mess..

Sorry to hear about your slab pour, but glad the GC is a stand-up individual. I have family in KY, and I love visiting and seeing all-brick structures. In the mid-Atlantic area (not the middle of the ocean), you only see brick on the front of buildings, if at all.

Good luck with your build, and please keep the pictures coming.

Finally an update- floor was taken out and redone with a much better result. Walls are framed and most of the exterior sheeting is up.

Arched door openings will be "soldier" bricked to match my attached garage (below)

Existing attached garage I'm trying to match in terms of style

So glad to see movement, hope to move along quickly now!

Thanks! I've got to finish a 69 Camaro, (sacrilege I know) then have a 71 and 73 Mach 1 to work on after that one- I'll take whatever help I can get!

Maybe there's hope yet!! Bowtie guy here but do have a fondness for the fastback mustangs. Good looking shop/garage build!

Cheers

Thanks for the comments-

I'm very happy with the roof, it's a 50-year steel shingle by Tamko, Vermont blue slate finish to match the house. It would be nice to do some matching gutter helmets like I have on the house, but might have to save that for a future improvement!

Nice progress on the Stable. I can't wait to move so I can start something similar for my Stang.

What are you doing with the carb?

Hopefully just a simple float adjustment on the front bowl, but you probably know how those simple things never work out to be simple...

Had to suspend construction for my annual independence day party. Had all of the construction mess cleaned up, pressure washed the floor and applied densifier/hardener. The building actually came in handy since we had a bit of rain, served as an alternate gathering location and place for the kids to ride scooters, etc.

In for the home stretch now. Final brickwork started on front of building:

Final coat complete on bathroom sheetrock, all fixtures set and passed final plumbing inspection:

Very true- more accurately it's the home stretch for the exterior. I've got big plans for the interior, but may need a little time to lick my wounds and rebuild the budget before starting that phase ;).

Thanks for the kind words, I'm very happy with the project so far!
