Where I grew up, red outlet meant 240v. No idea why they used regular outlets, but was very common in the 50s-70s.

I learned this the hard way plugged in the ancient little Sears compressor and boy did that thing have some giddy up!
60 hz is 60 hz. It wouldn't have spun any faster. It just would have let the smoke out.

The little green dot is John Deer Green paint, unless you have/do work in facilities maintenance (I do) or bio-med you just don't know how expensive some things are.

i put in some of those $5.50 legrand HD HGs (8200HI). they seem nice enough. i swapped the exposed work plate out from a duplex + switch to double duplex. i wasn't using that switch anyways, so now i have more outlets. this is in the garage and was driving me crazy. the outlets there were ancient and super worn out. **** was always falling out of it.

then i modded this standing desk with the red leviton EHD HGs (8300-R, $14). i put in a fancy, power-indicating one (8300-PLR, $21) with a glowing light too just for fun. total project cost was $110 which isn't too out of line compared to a fancy power strip like an ISOBAR8ULTRA ($90) or something – there's no surge protection, but the receptacles are fancier.

i used this 4gang fiberglass retrofit box (9314-EWK) from allied and am very happy with the quality. will def get their boxes going forward.

the desk is magnus pro xl

20a receptacles with a 15a plug end? What if someone plugs a welder into your desk???

Pretty sure the outlets in my house cost like 72 cents each.
Probably ok as long as you don't plug and unplug things often and expect big amperage draw.
hey all seem pretty cheaply built compared to Leviton
My Legrand 50 amp EV outlet plug from Menards is definitely better than the Leviton that is known to burn up. About same price.

Just paint it....

When I worked weekends at the paint counter at Lowe's, a customer asked me what kind of brush to buy for painting electrical outlets. I told her that was a bad idea. She shook her head at me, wandered around the brush section then, holding eye contact with me, picked up the cheapest possible foam brush and left with it. I hope that worked out the way she planned.

Lol. Fwiw, it's 12awg, but yeah that's terminated with 5-15P.

Tbh, I wonder if 5-15 actually necessarily has less ampacity than 5-20 or if it's more about locking out appliances that need 20A from accidentally plugging into stuff wired up with 14awg.

Also, the real issue is I plug into the desk's built in 5-15R that is built into the top of the desk's telescoping leg, and the desk's stock wiring is indeed only rated for 15A.

I chose 5-20Rs just because they were cheaper.

Excellent use of a proper strain relief going into that box as well

Fwiw, I did use the box's integral clamp intended for Romex inside the box. Better than nothing, but a knockout with a nice clamp designed for round cables would have been superior.

I wanted it to come out from that face. The box only had knockouts on the bottom face.

The receptacles are the same between 15 and 20. Just have the added slot for a 20a plug end

So you're saying a 12awg extension cord terminated with 5-15 probably has the same ampacity as one terminated with 5-20? That's kind of what I was thinking

Getting into the weeds here, but a 5-15P is hitting a different part of the receptacle contacts, so maybe the contact area could be different.

But the neutral is identical, so nevermind. It has to be the same.

Hospital grade MC cable has a redundant grounding path in it. It's basically AC cable with an insulated grounding conductor added.

Steve
It actually has 2 grounding conductors, due to redundant grounding requirements.

IMHO, Hospital Grade Receptacles are often made with Isolated grounds.
They have the orange or green triangle on them, and have gotten away from as they cant be in patient care areas(most spaces of a hospital) as of 2011 NEC

The hospitals my wife works in do not for most areas at least. I haven't been in the OR

isolated ground (IGR, indicated by triangle on the face) is a separate feature just like tamper-resistant (TR) or GFCI. you can get receptacles in any combination of those features. i don't think there's really a correlation between HG and IGR.

green dot on face indicates HG

Good ones are not a problem to use, in my experience. They sucked when they first came out and cheap ones are garbage, though. But like it or not, they are required now

It’s often the plug giving me problems with TR’s because the blades are not the same lengths.

Or my eyesight is off and I try to plug em in sideways.😛
