5 point security Torx?

Anyone have a source for drivers/tool to remove?

Edited: Yes, I say "Torx" loosely, given the profile of the lobes.

That's not torx. Torx and Torx Plus each have 6 lobes. Torx Plus security is an exception and it has 5 lobes but it also has a center pin.

No idea what that is.

Looks a bit like a Cinstar Security screw without the tamperproof pin...

I have a SK 5 point tamper proof T27 socket, used on the main harness on Mack trucks. I believe Snap On carries a bit/socket.

One of the sites that disassembled the new MacBook air that the screw pictured is on used a small flat screwdriver to remove the screws.

I could be wrong, but that looks like a regular T27.

You might try to find the apple "service source" manual for the new Mac Book Air, typically.... they will specify what the screwdrivers/fasteners are. There are also a number of sites that specialize in new apple product "take apart guides". These guys take pride in being some of the first to do so, they typically also tell you what tools you'll need! Good luck!

From the article; it would indicate it is a "Torx Plus 5-Point Torx Screwdriver".

Sorry if I am sounded redundant; looks like you may have already looked at this article! Maybe call or email ifixit and see what tool they used, where they sourced it from!

Just googled 5 point bit and go to images, looks more gooder than a flat blade

I am a sucker for buying more/the right tool for the job.

They all seem to have the security bit hole, but for the size of the screw I wouldn't worry about it. Usually when I have a security torx I knock the pin out and use my regular torx. I do have a small set of security torx bits though.

I have a set of 5-lobe Torx drivers. My Snap-on dealer has a set he wants £140-ish for. Tempting..

I've only ever seen them on Bosch MAF sensors and BMW Valvetronic/Vanos cam timing adjusters personally.

I use them often for restaurant toilet security screws. Most stuff inside a restroom use security screws of some sort.

I wouldn't be surprised if the MacBook screw was smaller than a T-8 Torx Security bit.

Other Macbooks use regular T5, T6 and T8 torx. Given there's nothing serviceable inside the new Air, I don't really see the point of opening it but the 33 and 100 piece common security bit kits from Amazon, HF and everywhere else don't have 5-point torx in them.

humVee injector pump has a tp25 ttx25tpe to remove one part and they are apparently hard to find around here if I am out of stock on them. I had a t27 that was used on a generator the other day on a motor home.
we should see more of these as time goes by. mustang gt transmission a john deere application and porsche cayenne turbo. thats about it so far.

A little googling reveals; according to PCWorld:

Sure enough, iFixit's MacBook Air teardown reveals an almost-impenetrable fortress, packed with proprietary parts to discourage modification. Here's what iFixit learned from disregarding Apple's roadblocks and peeking inside the new MacBook Air:

Even the screws that hold the MacBook Air together are proprietary. To get through the 5-point Security Torx screws, iFixit had to file down a couple of flathead screwdrivers. Normal 6-point Torx screws hold down the inside of the little laptop.
