Great contest. This has to be the only forum I have been on and seen anything like this at all. Shannon how long before we see the name actually being used?

The lawyers say we can list the Titan™ Tool Storage name now with the ™

We have been working non stop to get the product details finshed. Product is on order and will be in stock in 4 - 5 weeks.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Shannon, received the box 15 minutes ago! Thank you very much, it was a very kind gesture on your part, the pliers will be used startig on Monday! Again, thank you, and wife didn't even throw a fit when I said this is the place I am going to order my next tool box from, normally a comment like that would incite a riot in this household.

Again, thank you!

****, I missed the contest by 3 days. My suggestions that I came up with while reading the thread, in no particular order, were going to be:

COLD STEEL
LIBERTY
RUSHMORE
U.S. GENERAL :lol_hitti

Congrats to Vettman!

Went to see if a webpage went up already. Looks like the domain "titantoolstorage" was registered a month ago.

http://www.whois.net/whois/titantoolstorage.com

Sure hope that's you!

That is us.

We had a short list of names that we were certain would make the top 5 or 10. For all of those names we purchased domain names throughout the course of the contest.

I received my hat yesterday. When I picked up the box I thought that it was way too heavy to be the hat. I opened the box to find that I not only got a free hat but a couple of magnets and 4 PAIRS OF LOCKING PLIERS! That is so cool! I had a lot of fun trying to come up with good names and I really enjoyed the contest. Thanks again!

Can't wait to see them forsale. Contests like this are only good for business. It will give a person a sense of ownership in the way that they actually helped in naming a product. Even if only 3 people win I think it is a great way to attract customers. More companies should do stuff like this. It is a great way to get your company name out along with involving a great deal of potenital buyers. Thanks Shannon.

You really did get the shaft.

I had been so busy with the holidays that I overlooked sending you a special thank you. I had even emailed you awhile ago and mentioned that I was going to do something for you if memory serves me correctly. It is not like me to promise things and not follow through and I want to apologize for the oversight.

You had the most suggestions and my personal favorite for the brand name.

You were also first to suggest “Tool Vault” Which was the most suggested name. It was suggested over 70 times.

One of the things we do for our employees for a perk is give them a website. We let them answer the calls from their site during office hours and try to help promote it for them. Dave my IT guy got www.TheGarageLounge.com about a year ago.

I will give him a call and have him send me a code for a $50 gift certificate to be used on that site. I will PM that to you this week, plus keep an eye out for the FED EX truck.

Thanks for all of your input we appreciate it very much.

I see the Titan name used for ratchets and other tools and its trademarked. But you can use it by adding Tool Storage to it? I would have thought it was too similar:headscrat. Just trying to learn how the TM works.

Wow, that's a very nice perk!

Are you hiring any time soon?! j/k, I have no plans to move to Florida.

It's unlikely for "Titan Tool Storage" to be confused for "Titan" the import hand tool and power tool accessory brand. There's always a chance for a lawsuit; again, look at what the jerks at Monster Cable do to anyhow who tries to use Monster in any way.

My normal counsel did not see an issue. Additionally the trademark attorney did not see an issue when we applied for the trade mark.

With that said I asked my attorney if I had anything to worry about. He responded by saying that I always have something to be worried about because anyone with $200 can sue me.

You have to file in different categories. One of the criteria the US patent and trademark office uses in issuing a trademark ™ and then approving and moving into the final ® Registered trademark status is likely hood of market confusion. So at any point Titan Bowling balls could file a complaint and say that we are creating market confusion. Then we need to respond. They say the process will take 12-18 months to get final approval to move to the ® status.

When can we see what the new box looks like? and what is the price point?
I am due for a new box Shannon and wanted to see what you got brewing first.
I would like to see a 72" bottom box top 2 rows have 12" wide drawers on the outsides and 60" drawers in the middle. then 2 rows split down the center equalling 4 36" wide drawers, then 2 12" tall 10" deep drawers at the bottom corners and filled in with big drawers between. stainless work top and a finished height of 42" off the floor after casters.
That is my idea of the perfect bottom box.
Lets see the new box please and thank you for letting play your game.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. There is also a Titan Tool Box company; they make toolboxes for trucks. I wonder is there will be some type of copy-rite infringement?

Congrats to all the winners! I thought my one and only suggestion of "Maverick" would've taken the cake but... no hat or nothing for me but I paid for the best gift: my black out Montezuma. Almost 2 months and I'm still loving it more than ever!

Thought I'd post some photos of the Monetzuma box I won. It was shipped in two large box's securely banded to a large pallet. All that required assembly were the 6 casters and the large pull handle (mounts to either end). The bottom handle is made of stainless steel, the top box's handles are chrome plated steel. The box's have a very nice powder coated finish, very glossy (glad I didn't get black). everything is finished nicely, no poorly fitting corners on anything and the spot welds are barely visible. The trim on the drawers and vertical edges is a frosted finished metal. The box rolls very easily on the 6 heavy casters. All in all it's a very nicely put together tool chest. Lots of tool real estate! In one of the photos it dwarfs the HF service cart.

Montezuma makes two of the boxes for us. The other two come from a different source.

Below is the Titan story. It is a long but boring read.

Titan: Long story but it starts with me thinking I am smart and not listening to the people around me. I wanted to do the name contest around the holidays so we could give away some cool stuff during the holiday season. Sounded like a lot of fun to me. Everyone I know---EVERYONE told me it was a horrible idea because we were way to busy that time of year. So I just plowed forward full steam thinking it would be easy. Sure enough after around a thousand suggestions and working until around 1 am every night researching domain availability, trademarks etc I finally realized everyone was right.

I was just exhausted and sick of the process and grabbed my 20 favorite names and let the people around me choose the final 3 and we sent prizes. Now that some time has passed I have come to dislike for the name Titan. Mainly because I realized there are over 12 companies in this industry named Titan. 4 were at the ISN show in June. I have canceled my trade mark request.

Years ago I used to purchase Goodyear off lease equipment like Sun and Bear engine analyzers – Coats tire machine etc. That company was called Recon Auto Equipment. Even though the Recon name is not the best fit for tool storage I had decided that there is enough sentimental value in the Recon name for me. Yes I must be getting old. So we started moving forward with Recon Tool Storage.

The trade mark was filed and had met all initial approval.

We had 4 products on order.

Then Cummins attorneys called me. They have a trade mark on Recon for used parts. Since the parts are marketed to diesel techs and I market to the same they saw a potential conflict. My attorney said they may be right or they may be wrong but either way they could easily tie me up in court for years. So I lost my sentimental feeling for Recon and we have moved on.

We have since filed for 2 more names. For now we are still just labeling everything with StrictlyToolBoxes.com until one of the trade mark moves to the registered status.

Since that Post in 11-15-2011 There has been an Update

One of the very first names submitted within the first 2 hours of the name that brand contest was “Tool Vault” The problem was Tool Vault was already a registered mark. Since then that mark has expired and we were able to register the mark.

http://www.strictlytoolboxes.com/al...-tool-cabinet-top-chest-with-side-locker.html

We contacted regguy1 and told him the whole story and asked him where he wanted his new box shipped. He decided to order the new side locker at that time. He has left a great review and also 2 video reviews.

Thanks for the update Shannon, not boring at all.

I hope the people that told you it was a horrible idea are not your employees.
I would not want people like that working for me. I think it was a great idea. I see nothing wrong with getting potential customers involved with coming up with a name for a product line. More companies should get their customers involved with things like that.
I believe it is very good for business.

Thanks again for the update.

Glad to see that you finally have something I remember some PM’s back when you decided to try for recon. Sorry that didn’t pan out. Did you ever post the top 20 names? I remember I sent in about a dozen.
