Hi,

I just came across this thread.........

I am in the process of building a 40' X 60' shop to work on my racecar and to finally restore my 1962 Corvette which I bought in 1963 with 7,000 mile on it...

I think that I will have the same type of project, from the ground up, as you have......

Nice job & enjoy yourself...........

Bob

PS:

It's still rolling around on the Goodyear Polyglass GT tires that I put on in 1972

Hi Bob
Welcome to the G.J.
You must have a ton of good memories that pass through your head every time you look at that baby.
Do you have a thread of your garage build started yet?

Thanks for the visit

in photo 228 is that a billows jack or?????

whatme
Welcome to the G.J. and thank you for the visit
Is this the picture in question??

That is an air bag jack used in the bodyshop on frame machines when there isn't enough room for a floor jack to be used. It is a very handy light weight jack that I use all of the time. It has great lifting power.

Hi,

Got started on April Fools Day.....

Just got final approval on the forms and steel so the pour will be Tues 06/16/2015....

I'm still on schedule, even with some delays because the Metal building will not be completed by BORGA steel until the week of 06/22/2015 and should be on site by 07/01/2015...

Here's a link:

Quick update on the Vette
We spent the day fighting the aftermarket windshield wipers, Fitting the motor under the dash and getting the wipers in the original holes

alks5l.jpg

We also worked on the head lite assemblies only to find out that we are missing one headlite wire harness

Nice to see other owners talking about their '62 Vettes due to your great thread on your '62.

Looking forward to the time this car is ready for the next journey into it's future and all the awards it will surely win!

Beautiful attention to detail and the execution is simply top notch.... as we all have come to expect on any project emerging from: The Big Party Garage.

Fantastic!

Ody.

Oh Wow Ody
Thanks a bunch. Coming from you and your impressive stable it means alot.

It is rewarding knowing that this project has stirred a lot of interest from other Vette owners like yourself

I too am starting to get excited as I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel

Last week we worked on the hydraulic clutch, a/c installation and aftermarket windshield wipers.
Today we finally got the headlites mounted into the fenders and being concerned about them sitting square in the holes I pulled an old time tool from my 30's garage to aim the headlites

looking at the light at the end of the tunnel??? hope it's not a train just saying

whatme
No dead line to complete means no train in the tunnel how ever, it doesn't mean that the tracks go directly out the other end either

Don, have fun at the Roadster show! This is the first time in sbout 20 years we are not going.

caddyman
That's too bad. We just had 35 guys here from Michigan touring the party garage and work shop!!

We made a little headway today.
We took the vette off the rotisserie and set it back on the chassis

2015-06-22 09.53.25.jpg

We moved the C.O.E off the 4 post lift and put the vette up to shim the frame and hang both doors

2015-06-22 17.51.11.jpg

I picked up the radiator and started the fit process and measuring for the hoses

2015-06-22 18.02.13.jpg

The decision has been made to pull the exaust out in front of the rear wheels
so the fuel lines will be re ran

I really like the color that I sprayed the bottom of the car, it makes the red frame and polished aluminum jump out

Rick
It isn't going fast enough to get excited yet but we are putting things back on the car every day so some progress is being made

Don
Turning out well.
Have you thought about your hose type / connections for you coolant?

Thanks AK
Yes the hoses will be polished aluminum pipes with heat shrink connectors.

We have stressed for several hours on the cooling system
The water pump has 5 outlets on it and 2 more holes for something and we couldn't figure out where anything hooked up.
You gotta luv the internet
We were able to pull up pictures and discussions about the (firebird) LT1 motor and the direction of the water flow and all those extra plumbing holes.
So Monday morning I will start to design the polished aluminum water pipes

To date we have solved the following issues with the upgraded motor and suspension

1. The transmission tunnel (modified to except the 6 speed manual transmission)
2. Hydraulic clutch system for the new transmission
3. Power brake system (using a nice billet master cylinder)
4. Power steering pump, W/rack and pinion steering
5. Fuel system to handle the fuel injection (custom stainless tank and polished gas lines along the frame.
6. Custom radiator to fit in the standard coresupport and handle the LT1 motor
7. repositioned the w/wiper motor putting it under the dash panel
8. adding a vintage air system

We are now putting the car together, making it run prior to painting to be sure everything is in place and the correct holes are made.

After working on the vette for the past couple of weeks we have made a little progress
I installed a new Matson radiator only to find out that the radiator spouts were too big They were 1&1/2" and I need them to be 1&1/4".
Having the radiator in the car helped decide where the overflow bottle will go and the power steering tank can be mounted so we could make up the power steering lines.
With the body on the chassis we could build the hydraulic clutch lines and figure out the emergency brake mount. We finished up the final connections for the gas lines

8.jpg

After all that, its time to pull the body back off the chassis and mount it back on the rotisserie.

2015-07-11 16.21.13.jpg

So I started looking at the wiring to put in the car

2015-07-11 08.28.59.jpg

With the help of the old wire harness I was able to figure out what needed to be done to install the painless wire system

2015-07-11 09.06.42.jpg

One of the problems here is my eye sight (can't read the writing on the wire)
But I managed to get the looms separated and the wires ran for the headlites and tailites the fuse block is now mounted and the engine wire harness is bundled and ready to find its way into the engine compartment without being detected

Don,

Can you share the pics/diagrams of the LT1 cooling system?

Have a transplant here in a '56 and would be nice to see how the recovery system works.

Well its been a week of fighting and reading and fighting and reading then pulling wire then taking it out again only to put it back again.
What a project this is. I have a Painless muscle car harness for the main harness.I have Dakota digital dash gages, and a painless LT1 motor harness.
They all overlap on what they juice and the motor harness has twice as many connectors as I have uses for
As of tonight I have the tail lights and head lights wired in with plug ins for each unit, I have 90% of the wires traced and batched as to where they go.
I have mounted the motor computer and its fuse box on the right side under the dash and the main fuse box mounted on the left side under the dash
I think that I will be addressing the headlight and ignition switches tomorrow
