I wasn't sure if it was worth the obstacles (lift posts in the way) for only getting the vehicle 3'-4' off the ground.

The nice thing about the MaxJax is that it only takes about 15 minutes to install/remove the posts, so you could keep them stored out of the way and just take 15 minutes to set them up when you need them. Or, if you find they don't get in the way as much as you feared, leave them installed and just remove them when needed.

That's my number one reason for wanting to eventually get a MaxJax (or, if I end up building my garage with tall enough ceilings, there's one other brand of 2-post that has the same quick setup/teardown but full lift).

If I had just a bare concrete floor that would be easy but I have race deck on my floor (you can see it in a picture in one of my previous posts here) so if I remove the lift posts I'd have to do something with the cutout race deck flooring. That's not impossible but not convenient either.

Finally got the engine on a stand and will hopefully have time to start tearing it down later this week

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Do you have any idea of the original failure or the extent of the failure? Heads off only or the full bottom end (pistons, rods, crank etc.)?

MF: looks like progress. have you decided whether to make the engine a 750 HP or 1000 HP yet or still a coin toss?

are you also going to change the color or do any modifications to the Lambo's body or interior?

hope you had a great Christmas and here's to an even better 2017.

WAS: i bet MF is going to do a full rebuild cause he's building a monster. i think we just sit back in our chairs and watch as he has time to take and post pictures and updates.

cheers

There wasn't a failure on the engine....at least that I know of.

It was originally taken out to be built for a turbo kit.

This weeks thinking is 900-1000 at the pavement lol

We might wrap it and do some VERY minor body upgrades....just to update the look of the car some...and rims are a must.

Initially I didn't like the yellow at all. But the more I am around the car the more it grows on me.

Madhatter10-6, With your horsepower goal, might be a good idea to put bigger tires and rims on the rear and cover them with flares or a wide body kit. If you like subtle, take a look over on Mark's Monster Garage, starting at post 2382 (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4376393#post4376393). His team at Godspeed Rides widened the rear of a Lambo to fit some bigger tires and rims. The owner of the car only wanted a very small increase in width -- you might want more! It was hard to see the change so I tried to help show it:

A little Help

I think the rocker panel and top edge of the rear quarter show the difference.

Does this help?

@Bob Heine

The 2nd pic with everything widened and those tires looks awesome. The factory tires on these are huge already and with the car being AWD I will prob be fine on traction. If not its good to see examples like this and know that I have options.

I got some time this evening and decided to start on breaking the rest of the engine down.....very pleased with how everything went.

Got one head off....engine looks goofy like this

Lambo project looks very interesting Saxon.
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
You know if you added a shelf to the bottom of that metal table of yours it would give you more parts lay down area without having to walk around them on the floor.
But since I see nothing on your floor, maybe you don't need a shelf.

100% a bottom shelf happens. I already have most of the material to do it but just haven't made time :)

what mods need to be done to add the turbo. i mean internally?

jim

There are several different approaches and it also depends on how much horsepower your trying to add.

For what we are doing getting the cylinders rehoned and slapping forged piston and rods will be enough (I hope lol).

I made some solid progress today on the block and have it 100% stripped now.

Next step will be making some final decisions on if I will get it sleeved or try to have it rehoned.

The major Lambo builders in the US have contracts in place with some of the best machine shops and they wont do work for you unless you are with a big name shop. What a racket.

This irritates me quite a bit. So I am going to document this entire build, the parts that I use, all of my engine specs, wiring and my a copy of my engines map and then give it away online.

on to pics....

MH: as fast as you get things done i would have thought you had the LAMBO'S engine done and back in the car by now. or are you waiting for some parts?

Hope all is well in your world.

I've only made it a few pages in to your thread so far but have a question. I'll be buying a 60 gallon compressor soon, how do you like the Kobalt?

OP will have to weigh in but I was in the same boat as you and had decided on the Kobalt 60. Found an unused 80 on CL for a little cheaper 2 years ago and so far it has been great. Biggest demands on it are my HF blast cabinet and to a lesser extent plasma cutter. It lives next to my garage in a shed to save space and keep noise down. Haven't had to wait on it to catch up, rated at 16 cfm at 90 psi.

The tank drain is about 16" up on the right so you can drain into a bucket instead of the floor. I ended up changing the drain valve to a quarter turn ball valve and adding another with a hose to the oil drain. Otherwise changing oil is a mess.

So far I have zero complaints on it. It works really well and keeps up with everything that I throw at it. For the money it was hard to beat and after doing research on it I found that it was also rebadged and sold as an upper end brand....ill try and find out which one.

Finding someone (a stranger) to mail a $20-30K block to has taken some time....that being said I finally found a shop that I trust to do it.

Next step will be to order pistons and rods and get it all boxed up and a crate made.

Also, life has been extremely busy lately.

But more progress soon :)

I had been wanting a set of Wera Joker wrenches and found a good deal locally.

148.jpg

And I ended up finding a guy that was retiring from being a mechanic and sold me everything that he had. Two 90th Anniversary Snap on boxes just loaded with tools. So I have started going through them and deciding what to keep and what to sell.

Kudos to you. I was dragged into this racket previously, after I did something similar but with engine mapping. The major players pressure you to "join the cartel". I wish I never did, and shared my findings as I went. I have since published all of my findings on line, as I remember how much of a chore it was to just get started learning, and who to talk to who have been just fantastic starting point. However, the comment were normally "bring it into our shop and we will do it...".
Lover the build plans. As for the snap-on tools from your mechanic. I am not sure there would be any that I would or could let go. You yanks have the best access to quality tools at prices that are not comparable to a house purchase in price.

MH: some of the best collections are made from a "I DON'T SELL ATTITUDE" so while i agree we have to sell a few things as we upgrade for our working stuff the option is to work harder to find a solution to buy more to add to the existing stuff if the existing stuff is something you like or will maybe use.

from the looks of your shop it still doesn't look too bad so unless you need the funds to pay for all your new toys just keep working on the stuff that pays the bills and buys the new things and you'll have what you want.

also if you can keep from buying stuff that depreciates that helps just in case you hit a slow time so at least you might get your investment back with a little for your effort.

do all your friends have nice fast cars? i used to tell my kids and their friends that you are who you hang out with and if you want to have fast cars and cute dogs i'd like to think there are a lot of guys wanting to be your friend.

cheers and keep up the great progress in all facets of your life and put the BIG GUNS in a VERY SAFE SPOT.

Lambo is looking awesome!

I see you mounted the Maxjax Power Cart to the structural post - that's awesome!

I mounted mine to the wall - best mod that I've done to that lift!
