We were set up to start back on it about 5 weeks ago, had a sliver of my hardwood floor go thru my foot. It broke off in the foot and had to have a doctor remove the three quarter inch piece that was in there. After that has healed, about 10 days, it has rained ever since.
So no, not much to report in progress.
Seriously, it is wet WET out there.

Lin and Dave,

Just got back to read your Thread. I am impressed with your style and commitment. The craftsmanship is something to be proud of and I can understand how so many readers look and say "if I only could". It's wonderful so see couples of any age step out on an adventure. You just made it a little bigger than most would ever try. Congratulations on a great job.

No dancing, no alcohol, no drugs. Just a lotta hurt.

Sorry not to have posted on your new thread, we did not realize that you had the thread up. Just read all thru it. This will be a joy to follow.
Thanks for the kind words that you gave us, you and Rita have been good friends to us, we both love your place.

I'm still on post #1 but have to reply. Wow. The craftmanship is awesome. I wandered over from Buickfarmer's thread and glad I did. The Derrick is cool and since I have the same saw horses and crates, sweet. Now back to reading the rest of the story.

A sign of a great wife. My new wife always checks to see if I'm doing ok:thumbup: (shop 2 1/2 miles away). When I had my shop in my back yard the ex wouldn't know if I was dead or a live and she wonders why she the ex.:lol_hitti

Sorry not to have posted sooner than this. A lot has been going on, but not that much on the barn.

We, Lin and I, did make some headway on the small addition on the rear of the barn. This addition has taken a lot of time. It is only 4ft by 9ft, but it is almost like doing a complete other building.

downspout_01.gif

We did get the metal roof on this before the end of the year, but had to close it in for the winter, using tarps. November got really cold here.

downspout4_01.jpg

Last July I decided to purchase something to actually put in the barn. This thing is really fun. And I must confess, we did spend some of the good barn building, weather days, touring around Arkansas *******. Had to have it outside this day, to move some material out, so took this pic.

downspout2_02.gif

January (2015) had a week of nice warm days, so I decided to do away with the dumb looking tripod drain, that was supposed to be only temporary. That was couple years ago. It worked fine, but I was really sick of explaining it. Also had to get a tree service in with a seventy foot bucket truck, to trim the big oak next to the barn. It had grown way more than I thought it would in seven years. This last summer with leaves on the limbs, it would touch the roof when it rained.

Good to get these two jobs out of the way early. Now if the weather does change, and it will, we can get back to finishing up the outside.

I have been busy as well, in this down time setting this project down, in the form of a book. Have over 190 pages of text and pictures done so far. Trying to keep the book updated to the progress.

Thanks for checking in.

You must have sensed that I had just last night pulled this thread up, plus went to your barn forum, checking on you and was planning on rattling your cage today. Really glad to see you back and man does that thing look like fun. Do you still have your bike? Now maybe you and Lin can cruise down to Jawga and see us.
What is the little room going to be used for?
Curious, what is the down spout tied into at the ground?

Yes, I do still have the Harley. Have it for sale. Having a hard time selling it, too many bikes out there for sale. No one wants to pay what I think a 93 Anniversary 1200 is worth. Just getting too old for two wheels. So got a convertible and having more fun.

The extra room is to stick the hood of the first vehicle in, so when I put the second one in behind it, there is room to walk between them. Not really needed for the MINI, but for something like a mustang and a pickup, that would cause the problem.

The downspout drops into a drain, we put in, before we did the pad. It goes out under the drive and empties into the gutter on the side of the road.

Was on your thread today also. The new place is sure looking great.

Oh boy, you've done it now. Rita wants a mini convertible!!! I told her I'm 6'3", probably won't fit. She reminded me I use to fit in my Triumph GT-6+. Thanks a lot buddy.
When is the book due out. I want a copy...autographed!!!

...did you ever post a photo of your Harley?...I may have missed it as I haven't read the complete thread yet.
...you mentioned maybe building another street rod, any idea what that mite be if you do so?,...and have you any photos of previous streetrods/old cars?
Congrats to you both on a job superbly done!...that is a beautiful piece of work,
and thanks for your time posting this all.

We joined and ran with a MINI club out of Lil Rock. One of the members that we became friends with is 6' 10". He really turns some heads as he exits the car. However when the front seat goes that far back, there is no leg room in the rear. Not really a problem, because there is no leg room in the back, anyway.

This one that we have is a six speed standard, a real fun car. We may sell it tho, because Lin has some problems with the clutch in heavy traffic.

Maybe Lamar could trade you a Buick for the mini!!!

I am HUGELY impressed with this amazing level of craftsmanship and ingenuity! I would love to learn more about this style of wood working that is both functional and beautiful!

Is there any books or resources you could point me towards?

Dead stock 1993 Sportster Anniversary Edition with less than 3600 miles on it.

Building another street rod! That page must have been from six year ago, or so. Not sure now that it will happen. But to answer your query, there are a few that I would consider. Not in any order. Would like to do another Thames Panel, set up as a street driver. Would love to do a 33 Willys Coupe, with a 302Ford set up. A 27 "T" Coupe with a blown flathead and full fendered.

Sorry do not have any pictures set up to be able to post of the stuff I did, back in the day. Have not done any of the actual builds, since my heart attack in 1976. No digital cameras back than, and most of my slides and stills are somewhere in storage. It would be nice if I run across them to scan them in so we would have them available. I need to look into finding them. Don't hold your breath! I have the stuff to do it with, I did some old ones for Lin, that came out looking better than the original.

Thanks for the kind words and the interest.

I am doing the book in PDF format, it will at some time, be available as an electronic download. We hope to be able to make it available at a real low cost. Should come in around 200 plus pages, with over 600 pictures. I will have it available sometime after we finish the back and the rest of the trim. So it will not include the doors or the rest of the interior, in the first edition.
Not sure how to autograph your copy. If it can be done, you will certainly have it.

One of the reasons we are doing the book, is to be able to show how I could do this, with limited experience and no help. The book is not intended to provide step by step instructions, or blue prints, but rather to provide the reader with the ideas that he or she can expand on. It will only show how we were able to overcome the tasks that needed to be done. We hope that we can show to the reader that it can, in fact be accomplished. We can't imagine anyone building one exactly the same as ours. But, one should be able to utilize, some of the info, to their own project.

When I got the itch to do this, I too, looked for books that would be of help. Small town libraries were not much help. GOOGLE. I got on the net and dug it out. There is a lot of info on the net. Some of it is good, some of it is ---.

I've been watching this build from the start. All I can say is Wow! Awesome job.

The Harley pics got me to thinking. About 12 or so years ago my wife and I met a couple at an Abate meeting in Batesville. I can't remember exactly what they were riding but I remember it was a cruiser. I was thinking Kawasaki but it could of been a Harley maybe? Seems like they had just returned from a road trip from the northeast. We ran into them a few more times while out on rides around Arkansas over the next year or two. You and Lin remind me a whole lot of them. Super nice folks. I just wonder, could it be?......

No, not us. We have only been in Arkansas for a little over seven years. However, we are "Super nice folks".

Didn't have any snow here until last night, and got about three inches. We did have a couple of small ice storms, with no damage, or loss of electric. Been lucky that way, however it has been very cold for here, from November on.

So here is the barn covered with our big three inch blizzard.

Also had this picture from playing around with our new camera, hope you like it.

It looks almost as old as we feel.

We got about 6" here. Paved roads in town and the highways are clear but it will be Saturday before our gravel road will be passable to 2wd vehicles.

I will be 72 next month and I have one hot rod, a glass 32 Ford roadster that I drive, a 26 Model T 2 door sedan put back, a 31 Model a coupe nearing completion, and a stack of parts that I call Project X. You have at least one more hot rod in you.

Doug White at Show Me Rod & Custom just North of Branson builds a super nice 40 Willys body and can put together a nice, affordable builder's package for you. Not a 33 but a Willys none the less. Think it was more room than a 33.

I have just finished reading this thread Dave, and I just want to say "Wow!".

I just love the attention to detail, workmanship and design ingenuity that went into this build - it is truly amazing and something that you and Lin should both be very proud of.

Good to see you are enjoying the ******* motoring.

I bought Nicola an MX5 Miata two years ago, and she hardly uses it, so it wil be sold again.

She is very good with a camera too, both pics with and without snow on the barn look good.

Okay, if no one else is going to ask, I will. :evil:Why the exposed bottom turn and horizontal run and drop on the downspout? Why not bury it?:dunno:;). My Rita would have already ran over it with the lawnmower, probably two or three times!

I did it that way on the other side as well. Mainly for the ease of removing the downspout if needed to clean out. That big Pin Oak next to the barn, puts out a lot of small leaves, into the gutters. Also wanted to keep the drains as far away from the foundation as practical. So, to have the front match up with the drain, that was already in the drive, I chose to do it there, as well. But you are right, I could have also done it as you suggest. No grass in that area, just the SB2 rock.

How are you doing on your build. Can you make any progress in the weather we have been having?

I figured you would have a good explanation. and I'm sure your Lin has got to be a better lawnmower driver than my Rita. A one year old could drive better.

Yea, the every 2-3 day rain events has kept the fresh fill in front of the garage saturated and sloppy, no fun to work in, and especially when I'm trying to keep the red clay stains out of the unsealed concrete floor. And Rita told me to wait until Spring to do that but the trucks were already on their way. She may not can drive but she has foresight.
But I have been taking the rain day time to turn one of the kids old bedrooms into a Buick Room, painting it in '54 Buick colors and trying to figure out how to hang a sweepspear with portholes on the wall. So all is not lost. Heck I still haven't caught up with the pictures and commentary of up to where I am at, maybe I will go there now.
Y'all take care and enjoy drivin around *******. :eyecrazy:
