Posting the video really helps a ton.
If the access is like it appears, I would probably try my Spring Tools hammerless center punch first. They even make a self centering transfer punch version.
Another option is an automatic center punch wedged into a socket and extension.

Those Self Centering bits are made of cheese and only good for wood working

You can however replace the bits w a higher quality HSS and likely get some decent results. They are prone tothe clogging and jamming if drilling alloys

I have several of those, and agree with the assessment above. Minimum upgrade the drill bit, and don't lean on the tool too hard. Made for drilling hinge holes without marking the door jamb first. Great for their purpose, but you may be taxing them.

Thanks, I didn't intend on using the bits that come with the self-centering kit. I ordered the left handed bits in the second link above which were the best left handed bits I could find.

Any possibility to remove more stuff to get better access to the bracket? It might be a pain in the **** but I think you’d end up in a better position to succeed

I'm so glad you said this. Maybe. I was thinking the axle was not going to be moved but I'm going to move the axle while I rebuild the suspension, so you are right. Well, I was thinking I needed to get this done before I do the suspension work, but the thing is solid enough with the 2 bolts that I think it can wait.

So thanks very much! I think you have saved me lots of trouble.

I'm probably still going to use the self centering drill bit holder things.

Haha happy to help! I just figure - why make it so hard for yourself? Tying it into another repair where you’d have better access sounds like a great idea.
