That plastic coated line just *****, basically it will protect the line, but at every fitting is rots away, basically making you have to replace the lines anyways. I only use NiCopp now and I buy all my brake line stuff from SUR&R

I have had many times where I bought it locally and it didn't flare right, every time it appeared to be that the tube was offset, making the wall on one side thicker than the other and it just didn't flare properly. I have never had an issue with SUR&R supplies, so now I get it from them.

Yeah, and the flare dies don't like the line either. I've got about one shot at that line and if it goes bad, it will be a nightmare to fix. Its hugging the body and behind basically the entire rear of the car.

Used 2 1/4in plates sandwiched around the bent line, cclamped them together and squeezed, flattening the line out enough to get the fitting far enough back to use the inline flare tool. Beats dropping the subframe by a mile. Used the torch to toast the plastic line coating off. Now hopefully i can make a decent bubble flare. Not much fun...

Here's what i ended up with:
2023-11-04-17-00-50-246.jpg2023-11-04-17-03-05-522.jpg2023-11-04-17-09-59-576.jpg

I'm not super happy with that bubble flare, but as long as it doesn't leak i'll let it go. The stopping point on bubble flares is not very easy to tell. Frankly i hate them. But it is what euro cars use.

If it does leak, i will pull it back and cut the end off and try again.

The vapor line above the flare is what happened when i burned the plastic coating off with the torch. It seems sealed, but i won't know until i fire the car. I'd really like to have this on the road this week, but it seems a distant task.

I figured there were enough crossovers in this thread it would be just cryptic enough. I hope you back feels better, knock on wood mine has been staying in the green zone. Of course that can change in an instant for just about any reason or no reason at all. :(

I know right? My back Dr told me one time you can be fine loading concrete and bend down to pick up a pencil and throw it out. He was right. I have sort of formulated a theory. It's a cumulative damage model. Everything you do using your back subtracts from the tank. Inversion table or time fills the tank. When tank reaches zero you throw your back out.

Yeah you can't complain too much about that price. Seemed like not much needed to get er going either. I had 4200 in mine to drive away and I'm still fighting issues years later.

Yep. They're fairly common around here, but I was waiting for the planets to line up with condition, price, miles, and level of redneck repairs over the years. This one checked all the boxes.

That does seem to be the truck of choice in ranch country. I'm glad i bought mine down in your neck of the woods. The redneck factor was waaay up there though... lol.

On another note, i have 10 videos on my youtube channel, and 133 subscribers, and over 86,000 views. I really need to get that channel going. I might be onto something here...

Your bi-fold hangar door videos have a lot of interest! I would just start shooting video on random fixes around the barn/house/shop. You never know what will catch on. I think your Fairlanes have the potential for great content, too -- "first start in ** years" videos always seem to do well.

Perhaps a realistic perspective on youtube....
I currently have 2200+ subscribers, 2.5M lifetime views, and 168 videos that are live.
I used to be monetized, but then they increased the requirements for view time per month/year that I don't meet. Once that happened, it zapped my motivation to keep making videos for youtube. I still do occasional ones but infrequently since they made those monthly time of views requirements.
So if you do decide to videos for youtube, do it because you enjoy doing that work, and not go in with thought that you're going to get rich off of it.
In order to monetize, you have to have 500+ subscribers, 3 video uploads in the past 90 days, and 3000 hours of watch time in the past year. That's watch time of your videos by unique users. That's the one that is hard to consistently hit.

Some good points ^^^. I have 35 videos, 3,000 subscribers, 325k lifetime views. I've been monetized for almost a year, but only making about $60/month, on average. Not even enough to fill up my SUV.

Well that's not the positive spin i'd hoped to hear lol...

There are a few types of videos that seem to do well and would really jumpstart your channel, but both involve a decent $ investment. One would be reviving an old bulldozer or something similar. Another would be a barn find revival of a musclecar, especially one with some collectibility (i.e., 69 SS Camaro or similar). I'm considering doing both...

There's a nice D6 near me, 50's vintage, pony motor start, that would be ideal. But I can't get a response from the owner.

And there's a roached D7 near me, also 50's vintage, that would be a complete train wreck. Owner is very responsive!

......maybe until the audi leaves the shop, it might be helpful to not add 10 tons more of scrap iron? or even the suggestion of it? dunno......:devilish:

At this point, I think the audi could be considered a barn find..... do a photo collage and a voice over of all the **** you've run into with attempting to rehab the car.... Big reveal could be when it finally rolls out of the garage... This year? Possibly???

In order to make the channel work, you're going to need a lot of grit, perseverance , time, etc to shoot video, edit, upload and curate comments..... Need to plan for a video every week. Are you up for all that? And the comments are probably not going to be complimentary....... And after all that, to maybe make $60 a month? Sorry, but I don't get it.....

Not to be a negative Nancy here, but from my observation, you just need to get the daily driver going. Focus and push! Once that is moving forward (ideally with you in it on your way to work) then you can get your heat going, etc. It is November.....

I'm a realist.... I'm all for having dreams and goals, but they also need to be attainable so that you can keep your mental and physical energy going.....

What's the next action on the Audi? I saw a good picture of your brake line fittings.
But I digress.... back your normally scheduled content..... :3gears:

For a minute I thought we were in my thread, but there was no talk of forklifts, so I knew it couldn't be...

I agree, take my input for what it is worth or what it costs, DD is the lifeblood and ultimate stressor. I think we would both be better off buying a new honda civic and never look back. ;)

At lunch i got the driver side spring out and the new spring back in. I finally gave up on the homemade compressor and pulled the control arm bolts and levered it out. It wasn't too bad. I was thinking it would be more crunchy. I should be able to get the driver side done tonight at least. Brakes and all. If i can get it done quick enough i might even get the pass side done. I'm pretty ready to be done with this project. I signed up to drive the truck to work again tomorrow and maybe friday and i'm not super into it at this point...

Aaaaaaaahh... i swore never again on Honda. We bought an accord early into our relationship. It was pulling out onto the main drag in the town i went to college and the transmission locked up suddenly. Completely locked. Immovable. We called a tow truck while 2 lanes of traffic filed around it in the middle of the road. The ONLY road in or out of town. Lots of people got out and tried to push. Clutch in or out, NOPE. I told em all trans was locked up. NOPE. Everybody had to try. I spent 2 weekends swapping that stupid backwards trans around. I couldn't find an exact match locally, only one that was close and swapped a lot of little parts around to make it fit. It's where i learned Hondas were backwards of all other makes.

Editing is a real time ****. So is wrenching while shooting video. A job that I'm filming takes at least twice as long as it would if I wasn't filming. Have to get the camera set up, batteries charged, batteries swapped, maybe add lighting, do some research before you start so you're not floundering while filming, etc.

I tried to do a video every week, but that was tough. I was usually doing 2-3 a month, and if it was an involved job (4x4 conversion on the F350) it was only 1 video a month.

As for the comments, I find that the vast majority of folks are complimentary. Very rare to have negative comments. At least that's what I've experienced.

As for the $60/month, it's not much, but my content to date hasn't been focused on drawing in viewers. Now that I'm retired and can be more regular with posting content and can also focus more on building up my subscriber/viewer #'s, I expect to see the numbers increase. In a few years, I hope to be bringing in enough to cover a nice car payment. Having said that, it's not all about the $. I'm enjoying it and learning a lot.

I've noticed some of my favorites are missing a lot of editing. Diesel creek has gotten so lazy he's let things slip where i was able to find his compound. I'm not telling, don't ask.

My thoughts on filming have been mostly about giving what i know back to the community. I think i am not that interested in my mug being out there either, so i will probably do voiceovers on my content also. if they make money, fine, if not, fine. I'm still full time employed for now, and i am not sure i want this to be my full time employment. Unless it goes viral or something, which i doubt. However, i know that my current employment is not sustainable as is, i will slowly go crazy with EV's. So there is going to be an exit plan at some point, where i will go play with adults again... in some way shape or form.

You're absolutely right on Diesel Creek; he doesn't seem to spend much time at all editing his content. Still love what he does, however.

I will have to check that one out. My current favorites are Adventures made from Scratch, Mortzkes Repair, and Iron Trap Garage. I like the new project Bulletpruf, looks pretty unmolested other than that godawful front bumper and $5k seems to be a steal these days.

Yep, unmolested is why I pulled the trigger.

The front bumper is welded on (it wasn't made for this truck) so I'll need to attack it with a grinder, but it'll come off.

Thanks
