Anyone have an opinion on the conduit between lights? Bend to the ceiling or straight shot to the next light and just have a couple inches space to the ceiling?

Your ceilings are tall enough it would not be noticeable. Can you use unistrut or some decent hangers to hold the conduit?

Never underestimate the value of good lighting! Glad to see continued progress. One of my favorite threads.

Personally I'd go with straight across and use a couple of standoff hanger clamps per stick. But then I **** pretty bad at bending conduit. I'm hoping to get my AC install done this weekend but I'm scared to post pics of it because my conduit work is so bad.

Got two more hung tonight in an hour including conduit. Its not far enough away from the steel to bother with imho.

This was tonights project.

All running off a cord. Now i can take down the other ones and still work to install the remainder. I am 100% happy with these.

Errands and SNOW this morning slowed me down and now we are moving again. This corner hasnt seen anything but the yanmar in at least 10yrs.

Now theres scaffolding there. Progress.

Things are looking bright! We are waiting for the cold and snow, supposed to start tomorrow and the cold is going to hang around most of the week. Yesterday was almost 80 at my shop, I actually turned the AC on, today was 50s and tomorrow highs are supposed to be low 30s.

Finished up the 2nd three lights and played musical junkyard again. Got more conduit over to the lightswitch area. Then i started to tear the wall apart and found the mice had again gone nuts. Perhaps this should be a cautionary tale for all our shops with foam insulation after a few years. This wall was completed 13 years ago.

Now the focus is on rewiring the wall and bringing conduit into the space to begin the new system wiring.
I need to get some more foam to finish the wall out and its quite windy today so that should be entertaining.
After the last row of conduit is run ill jury rig it and start conduit for the middle run that is on a cord at the moment. That should maintain lights for night work.

I think dont leave anywhere for them to enter is the key. The building was kind of loose before. All my recent changes have been much tighter.

Don't you think you need a Plan B? It's an enormous building and mice are small and resourceful critters. Perhaps a cat, mouse traps, mouse poison, or all the above?

That has been my issue, the exterior allows easy access and they keep coming back. I am planning on residing the shop sooner or later, when I do that, I am blocking all access points for those little creeps.

Ive tried dcon, never seen a dead one. Cats need maintenance. Cat with a pet door lets in other critters like skunks. Best thing ive seen is antifreeze in a bucket.

You're a resourceful guy. Why can't you put a collar on the cat with a wireless FOB like you'd use to gain access to an office building? Unless the collar is nearby, the door won't open. It'd have to be locked magnetically. Maybe not a simple solution but to me it would be a fun engineering challenge. Similar to how you don't need your key in the ignition any more but the key needs to be in the car for it to start.

Got the foam installed between the girts.

And covered with 1/2 in plywood. That will make a good base. Now to start box framing.

Mice are hard to keep out, I've read before they can get into a hole as small as 1/4", I'd assume that would be for a small mouse. The antifreeze/bucket/broomstick/peanut butter method has had rave reviews all over this site.

I will probably eventually get a cat but for now the bucket is a good way to go. Ive caught them before even without a can and stick. They want that smell.

This is what i framed out tonight.

And threw the plc in there for scale. Before anyone has a nema or nec cow, ill be putting metal liner in there. Conduit from machines down into the box. Plc will control lights, security, compressor, doors, and rpc. Ethernet and internet enabled.

Do it strouty. I cant explain how much this has motivated me. Guys are visual. You can see the clutter better and youll want to get it cleaned up. Its easy to walk away when you cant see it.

Dude,
Mouse traps, up against the wall preferably in a corner (or where anything else touches the wall). With a piece of sliced almond on them (or something else hard that will trip when mice tug). Golden. I've caught untold amounts of mice this way.

Rats are another story. Rats are smart. Ugh.

Well we got 5 in of snow last night and its 20 degrees out there. Kids are gone for the weekend to grandmas so i tried to hang a light with the wife. She is quite a bit shorter so it was a struggle. We tabled it at one. Ill probably wait until my son comes back and its warmer.

Cool thread. I totally get the angst with too much **** around to do anything. But hey it's all good ****.

I bought my place 3 years ago with the intent to build a large garage. My basement is filled with table saws, drill presses, dust, boxes, tool boxes. shovels, rakes, axes, furniture that I want to refinish. I can't do much until I get room to work. Some of my problem would be fixed building bookshelves and getting stuff out of boxes and throw the boxes away.

Well last year a contractor strung me along. This year I should be breaking ground with another contractor on the job. In the mean time I've been hammering at site clearing of trees.

Plan is 32x50' is a two bay double deep garage. Site topography dictates that option versus a 3 bay. Can't wait to bring order to my own Chaos. Your big long thread gives me hope.

Well the last few days i have moved things around and completed the lighting to the control panel and run all conduit as needed. Heres what it looks like for the front half.



So now its all well lit i will focus on further cleaning and organizing.
